Cross-Cultural Adjustment and Coping:U.S.Students in Taiwan Residents Higher Education

The aim of this study was to investigate the adjustment problems of students from the United States enrolled in universities in the East,specifically in Taiwan,their problems related to cultural adaptation,and the process of adjustment to student life in Taiwan.Under investigation were cultural adjustment and coping skills as these students transitioned from West to East.Qualitative data were collected from interviews with participants and faculty members as well as participant observations.Results indicated that U.S.students found their own ways to acclimate to their new academic setting as well as to social relations,cross-cultural issues,and the linguistic environment in Taiwan to achieve effective adaptation.They made changes in themselves to cope with all situations they encountered.This study provides suggestions for international students abroad in Taiwan,for the Taiwan Residents government,and for universities or colleges in terms of what they should offer to current and future international students.

Zero-determinant strategies in iterated multi-strategy games

Self-serving,rational agents sometimes cooperate to their mutual benefit.The two-player iterated prisoner′s dilemma game is a model for including the emergence of cooperation.It is generally believed that there is no simple ultimatum strategy which a player can control the return of the other participants.The zero-determinant strategy in the iterated prisoner′s dilemma dramatically expands our understanding of the classic game by uncovering strategies that provide a unilateral advantage to sentient players pitted against unwitting opponents.However,strategies in the prisoner′s dilemma game are only two strategies.Are there these results for general multi-strategy games?To address this question,the paper develops a theory for zero-determinant strategies for multi-strategy games,with any number of strategies.The analytical results exhibit a similar yet different scenario to the case of two-strategy games.The results are also applied to the Snowdrift game,the Hawk-Dove game and the Chicken game.

Neurosurgery in Parkinson's disease:Social adjustment, quality of life and coping strategies

Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation has become a standard neurosurgical therapy for ad- vanced Parkinson＇s disease. Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation can dramatically improve the motor symptoms of carefully selected patients with this disease. Surprisingly, some specific dimensions of quality of life, ＂psychological＂ aspects and social adjustment do not always improve, and they could sometimes be even worse. Patients and their families should fully understand that subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation can alter the motor status and time is needed to readapt to their new postoperative state and lifestyles. This paper reviews the literatures regarding effects of bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation on social adjustment, quality of life and coping strategies in patients with Parkinson＇s disease. The findings may help to understand the psychoso-cial maladjustment and poor improvement in quality of life in some Parkinson＇s disease patients.

Fruit Production Distribution and Adjustment Strategies under the Constraint of Grain Security

Grain security is the foundation of national security,and guaranteeing the grain security by every possible means is a development priority for the whole country.Rapid development of the fruit industry satisfies increasing demands of people for fruits,but also presents certain competition for grain production.From the perspective of limited resources and comparative income,this paper analyzed potential threats of fruit production distribution to grain production in farmland and labor resources,and came up with pertinent adjustment strategies.

Optimal Scheme Selection of Agricultural Production Structure Adjustment——Based on DEA Model; Punjab(Pakistan)

This paper used the modern evaluation method of DEA （Data Envelopment Analysis） to assess the comparative efficiency and then on the basis of this among multiple schemes chose the optimal scheme of agricultural production structure adjustment. Based on the results of DEA model, we dissected scale advantages of each discretionary scheme or plan. We examined scale advantages of each discretionary scheme, tested profoundly a definitive purpose behind not-DEA efficient, which elucidated the system and methodology to enhance these discretionary plans. At the end, another method had been proposed to rank and select the optimal scheme. The research was important to guide the practice if the modification of agricultural production industrial structure was carded on.

New Sino-US Strategic Gambling and China’s Strategy

Since confidence is fading and anxiety is increasing in the US,America’s China policy has become more radical. In the short term, the US has the upper hand and China is in a relatively passive position. In the medium-and long-term, there will be more balance between them. This current strategic gambling between China and the US will be the major issue of international politics in the first half of the 21 st century and the most prominent external challenge China faces. China needs to make strategic adjustments but the gamble may be worthwhile in correcting imbalance in the international order and in the co-evolution of the two countries.

By combining her own economic advantage with the great demand for infrastructure financing in the developing world, China expects to help developing countries build their own capacity in economic growth and at the same time provide greater leadership in narrowing the deficit in global economic governance.

The Indo-Pacific Strategy of the United States from Russia’s Strategic Perspective

The Trump administration of the United States has accelerated the advancement of the‘‘open and free Indo-Pacific’,strategy since 2017.From a geopolitical point of view and in terms of its national interests,Russia has generally been critical of this strategy,believing it has posed certain challenges to its“Pivot to the East”strategy.Meanwhile,Russia is rejoicing for not being the primary target of US containment in the region and has sensed a new opportunity for exercising its Asia-Pacific diplomacy in the context of the Indo-Pacific strategy.Based on this situation,Russia has made a flexible and pragmatic policy response to it.However,Russia will inevitably face many restraints.In the future,Russia will seek to maximize its strategic interests on the basis of adhering to its inherent principles of Asia-Pacific diplomacy.

Seru系统调度优化的知识引导协同进化算法

作为一种新型的生产模式, Seru系统能够兼顾柔性和效率且快速响应市场,已在装配企业得到广泛应用.为了实现实际生产过程生产效率和劳动效率的协同优化,本文研究以最小化最大完工时间和工人总劳动时间为目标的Seru系统多目标调度问题,提出一种知识引导的协同进化算法.首先,将问题分解为Seru构造和Seru调度,构造两个种群分别优化子问题.同时,设计种群规模的调整策略,通过为有潜力的种群分配更多个体来提高协同搜索的效率.进而,通过分析问题的性质,提炼规则性知识用于设计有效的搜索算子和重生成规则,指导精英个体执行知识驱动的增强搜索,从而进一步提升算法的局部开发能力.通过数值仿真和统计性能对比,验证了算法各设计环节的有效性,并取得了显著优于现有最新算法的多目标调度优化性能.

基于CFD与TRNSYS的圆形猪舍内环境控制研究

为了给寒冷地区密闭圆形猪舍提供内环境控制策略,试验以地处寒冷地区的张家口市某在建密闭圆形猪舍为研究对象,通过ANSYS FLUENT软件搭建计算流体力学(computational fluid dynamics,CFD)仿真模型,利用CFD模型计算猪舍在最低通风量标准条件下舍内污染气体质量浓度与风速分布,研究通风量对舍内污染气体质量浓度的影响;利用TRNSYS 17软件搭建猪舍温控仿真模型,以月舍温、月舒适时间占比和月暖通不保证率为评价指标,研究非供热策略、供热策略和调整养殖密度策略下猪舍全年通风量对舍内环境温度与舒适性的影响,筛选较为合适的猪舍全年温控策略,并对最适温控策略进行优化研究。结果表明:在圆形猪舍内每60°布置一组送、排风侧立管的“上送侧排”通风方案中,污染气体浓度随通风量增大而降低;在全年最低通风量[0.35 m~3/(h·kg)]标准条件下,养殖区域猪只背部高度平面的平均风速为0.3 m/s,猪只呼吸高度平面NH_(3)、H_(2)S、CO_(2)质量浓度最大值分别为1.02,0.021,525 mg/m~3,上述参数均满足猪舍养殖环境要求,即通风量、污染物浓度、猪只吹风感之间得到较好平衡。调整养殖密度策略比供热策略的全年平均月舒适时间占比高1.5百分点,全年平均月暖通不保证率低0.2百分点;调整养殖密度策略在夏季的平均月舒适时间占比比非供热策略高4.3百分点,月平均舍温低0.3℃,因此育肥猪舍采用调整养殖密度策略调节猪舍温度更为合适。猪舍采用调整养殖密度策略调节猪舍温度时,将5,9月份的通风量从0.50 m~3/(h·kg)提升至0.68 m~3/(h·kg),使这两个月份的月平均舍温均下降2.3℃,月暖通不保证率分别从1.6%和7.2%下降至0.9%和3.6%,月舒适时间占比分别从35.9%和26.1%提升至70.4%和59.4%;夏季采用遮光板辅助降温措施可使午间猪舍温度降低0.3~1.2℃,使猪舍温度更加舒适。说明应用新风全热交换器和湿帘-风机系统并适当调整通风量或养殖密度可以达到密闭圆形猪舍的环境控制要求。

Novel therapeutic strategies targeting mitochondria as a gateway in neurodegeneration

In recent years, multiple disciplines have focused on mitochondrial biology and contributed to understanding its relevance towards adult-onset neurodegenerative disorders. These are complex dynamic organelles that have a variety of functions in ensuring cellular health and homeostasis. The plethora of mitochondrial functionalities confers them an intrinsic susceptibility to internal and external stressors(such as mutation accumulation or environmental toxins), particularly so in long-lived postmitotic cells such as neurons. Thus, it is reasonable to postulate an involvement of mitochondria in aging-associated neurological disorders, notably neurodegenerative pathologies including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. On the other hand, biological effects resulting from neurodegeneration can in turn affect mitochondrial health and function, promoting a feedback loop further contributing to the progression of neuronal dysfunction and cellular death. This review examines state-of-the-art knowledge, focus on current research exploring mitochondrial health as a contributing factor to neuroregeneration, and the development of therapeutic approaches aimed at restoring mitochondrial homeostasis in a pathological setting.

Anderson's Cognitive Theory and Learning Strategy Studies in Second Language Acquisition

Second language acquisition can not be understood without addressing the interaction between language and cognition. Cognitive theory can extend to describe learning strategies as complex cognitive skills. Theoretical developments in Anderson’s production systems cover a broader range of behavior than other theories, including comprehension and production of oral and written texts as well as comprehension, problem solving, and verbal learning.Thus Anderson’s cognitive theory can be served as a rationale for learning strategy studies in second language acquisition.

Ensemble Strategy for Insider Threat Detection from User Activity Logs

In the information era,the core business and confidential information of enterprises/organizations is stored in information systems.However,certain malicious inside network users exist hidden inside the organization;these users intentionally or unintentionally misuse the privileges of the organization to obtain sensitive information from the company.The existing approaches on insider threat detection mostly focus on monitoring,detecting,and preventing any malicious behavior generated by users within an organization’s system while ignoring the imbalanced ground-truth insider threat data impact on security.To this end,to be able to detect insider threats more effectively,a data processing tool was developed to process the detected user activity to generate information-use events,and formulated a Data Adjustment(DA)strategy to adjust the weight of the minority and majority samples.Then,an efficient ensemble strategy was utilized,which applied the extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)model combined with the DA strategy to detect anomalous behavior.The CERT dataset was used for an insider threat to evaluate our approach,which was a real-world dataset with artificially injected insider threat events.The results demonstrated that the proposed approach can effectively detect insider threats,with an accuracy rate of 99.51%and an average recall rate of 98.16%.Compared with other classifiers,the detection performance is improved by 8.76%.

A novel adjustable multiple cross-hexagonal search algorithm for fast block motion estimation

In this paper,we propose a novel adjustable multiple cross-hexagonal search(AMCHS) algorithm for fast block motion estimation. It employs adjustable multiple cross search patterns(AMCSP) in the first step and then uses half-way-skip and half-way-stop technique to determine whether to employ two hexagonal search patterns(HSPs) subsequently. The AMCSP can be used to find small motion vectors efficiently while the HSPs can be used to find large ones accurately to ensure prediction quality. Simulation results showed that our proposed AMCHS achieves faster search speed,and provides better distortion performance than other popular fast search algorithms,such as CDS and CDHS.
