Most sensor nodes require hardware support or receive packets with location information to estimate their locations, which needs lots of time or costs. In this paper we proposed a localization mechanism using a mobile reference node (MRN) and trilateration in WSNs to reduce the energy consumption and location error. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed mechanism can obtain more unknown nodes locations by the mobile reference node moving scheme and will decreases the energy consumption and average ocation error.展开更多

Many efforts have been made to estimate the radio coverage of sensor nodes. The existing approaches (often RSSI measurement-based), however, suffer from heavy measurement cost and are not well suitable for the large-scale densely deployed WSNs. NRC-Map, a novel algorithm is put forward for sensor nodes radio coverage mapping. The algorithm is based on the RSSI values collected by the neighbor nodes. According to the spatial relationship, neighbor nodes are mapping to several overlapped sectors. By use of the least squares fitting method, a log-distance path loss model is established for each sector. Then, the max radius of each sector is computed according to the path loss model and the given signal attenuation threshold. Finally, all the sectors are overlapped to estimate the node radio coverage. Experimental results show that the method is simple and effectively improve the prediction accuracy of the sensor node radio coverage.展开更多

In this paper, we propose and investigate an effective method to utilize Received Signal Strength (RSS) for measuring scour depth where acoustic sensors are deployed. We also extend a statistical testing to determine the difference in signal levels at the sensor nodes prior to and after scour formation and subsequently determine the actual depth of scour. Additionally, we make an attempt to evaluate underwater distance and depth using signal strength perceived at the receiver which makes it free from the requirement of accurate receiver-sender synchronization in contrast to Time of Flight (ToF) or Time of Arrival (ToA) techniques. The scour depths are eventually compared for the conditions when the bottom is composed of a single or multiple layers. The simulation results clearly show that different depths are calculated for the case of multilayered bottom (0.8 to 3.9 meters for instance) as compared to a constant depth of 2 meters for the case of a single layered bottom.展开更多

However, using traditional routing algorithms for data gathering is energy-inefficient for sensor nodes with limited power resources and multi-hop communication protocols. Data gathering with mobile sinks provided an effective solution to this problem. The major drawback of this approach is the time and path constraints of the mobile sink, which limit the mobile sink to collect data from all sensor nodes and, then, data routing is still required for these unreachable parts by the mobile sink. This paper presents a new data gathering algorithm called Connectivity-Based Data Collection (CBDC). The CBDC algorithm utilizes the connectivity between sensor nodes so as to determine the trajectory of the mobile sink whilst satisfying its path constraint and minimizing the number of multi-hop communications. The presented results show that CBDC, in comparison with the LEACH-C algorithm, prolongs the network life time at different connectivity levels of sensor networks, varying number of sensor nodes and at different path constraints of the mobile sink.展开更多

To tackle this issue, a improving link quality assessment methods on physical novel link quality assessment metric called S3LQA is proposed, which estimates the link quality of wireless sensor networks by CC2420 wireless radio frequency transceiver principles and free space propagation theory. The metric adopts both complete and incomplete packages to improve the evaluation performance effectively based on IEEE802. 15.4 frame format and DSSS-O- QPSK mechanism. The transmission and reception of wireless communication is blocked by the jammer. The intruder will place the jammer in a well topological network area and they can easily track the information. It will help them to block the signal transmission and reception. Now, the intention is to track the position of the jammer where it is fixed. The existing methods rely on the indirect measurements and the boundary node to find the jammer’s position which degrades the accuracy of the localization. To improve the efficiency, this paper proposed an efficient method namely Coincered Node Based Localization of jammers to find the position of the jammer with high level of accuracy. The proposed system uses the direct measurements, which is the jammer signal strength. The effectiveness can also be increased by using the coincered node that will stumble across the true position of the jammer. The proposed work is compared with existing methods. Then the proposed mechanism proves better to find the jammer location. The simulation results estimate that the accuracy of the localization achieves better performance than the existing schemes.展开更多
