SOME PROPERTIES OF THE INTEGRATION OPERATORS ON THE SPACES F(p,q,s)

We study the closed range property and the strict singularity of integration operators acting on the spaces F(p,pα-2,s).We completely characterize the closed range property of the Volterra companion operator I_(g)on F(p,pα-2,s),which generalizes the existing results and answers a question raised in[A.Anderson,Integral Equations Operator Theory,69(2011),no.1,87-99].For the Volterra operator J_(g),we show that,for 0<α≤1,J_(g)never has a closed range on F(p,pα-2,s).We then prove that the notions of compactness,weak compactness and strict singularity coincide in the case of J_(g)acting on F(p,p-2,s).

Fixed-Time Antidisturbance Consensus Tracking for Nonlinear Multiagent Systems With Matching and Mismatching Disturbances

In this paper,fixed-time consensus tracking for mul-tiagent systems(MASs)with dynamics in the form of strict feed-back affine nonlinearity is addressed.A fixed-time antidistur-bance consensus tracking protocol is proposed,which consists of a distributed fixed-time observer,a fixed-time disturbance observer,a nonsmooth antidisturbance backstepping controller,and the fixed-time stability analysis is conducted by using the Lyapunov theory correspondingly.This paper includes three main improvements.First,a distributed fixed-time observer is developed for each follower to obtain an estimate of the leader’s output by utilizing the topology of the communication network.Second,a fixed-time disturbance observer is given to estimate the lumped disturbances for feedforward compensation.Finally,a nonsmooth antidisturbance backstepping tracking controller with feedforward compensation for lumped disturbances is designed.In order to mitigate the“explosion of complexity”in the tradi-tional backstepping approach,we have implemented a modified nonsmooth command filter to enhance the performance of the closed-loop system.The simulation results show that the pro-posed method is effective.

A Critical Assessment of Professor Todd Ryan’s, “Philo on the ‘Incomprehensible Nature of the Supreme Being’ in Dialogues 2”

I begin my comments by acknowledging that Professor Ryan is correct when he states early in his paper that Philo makes common cause with Demea by arguing that philosophical reflection can yield no knowledge of the nature or essence of the divine being. Ryan asserts that Philo’s defense of this claim, as set out in the third and fourth paragraphs in Part 2, has not received the attention it deserves from commentators. This, according to Ryan, is surprising, since, if Philo is successful here, he will have effectively shut down the project of natural theology, before it can even begin. Ryan goes further, citing my work, Scepticism and Belief in Hume’s Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion (The Hague: Martinus Nijhoff, 1986) to say that Philo’s challenge receives no direct answer from Cleanthes. Instead, Cleanthes proceeds directly to formulate his version of the Argument from Design. Ryan concludes his introductory remarks by asserting that, in these two paragraphs, Philo offers not one, but two, distinct arguments for the conclusion that we can achieve no strictly philosophical knowledge of the nature of God. He then proceeds to flesh out these two arguments, and attempts to show that neither of Philo’s objections is ultimately telling against Cleanthes’ experimental natural theology.

Optimizing Polynomial-Time Solutions to a Network Weighted Vertex Cover Game

Weighted vertex cover(WVC)is one of the most important combinatorial optimization problems.In this paper,we provide a new game optimization to achieve efficiency and time of solutions for the WVC problem of weighted networks.We first model the WVC problem as a general game on weighted networks.Under the framework of a game,we newly define several cover states to describe the WVC problem.Moreover,we reveal the relationship among these cover states of the weighted network and the strict Nash equilibriums(SNEs)of the game.Then,we propose a game-based asynchronous algorithm(GAA),which can theoretically guarantee that all cover states of vertices converging in an SNE with polynomial time.Subsequently,we improve the GAA by adding 2-hop and 3-hop adjustment mechanisms,termed the improved game-based asynchronous algorithm(IGAA),in which we prove that it can obtain a better solution to the WVC problem than using a the GAA.Finally,numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed IGAA can obtain a better approximate solution in promising computation time compared with the existing representative algorithms.

Traumatic mating causes strict monandry in a wolf spider

DEAR EDITOR,We identified strict monandry in a wandering wolf spider species(Pardosa pseudoannulata) and revealed the underlying mechanisms of this mating structure. Evidence indicated that males damaged the inner walls of the female genital tract with the sharp part of their intromittent organ during insemination. The traumatic mating caused hemolymph hemorrhage, which mixed with seminal fluid and gradually formed an impermeable amorphous mating plug after about15 days, completely blocking the female copulatory opening.

目的:采用国际公认的试验报告统一标准(CONSORT)和报告针刺临床试验中干预措施的国际标准(STRICTA),评价针刺治疗抑郁相关睡眠障碍随机对照试验(RCT)的质量。方法:系统检索Pub Med、SpringerLink、CNKI和万方4个数据库,文种限制为中文和英文,并追溯纳入文献的参考文献。由2位评价者根据纳入与排除标准独立进行文献筛选,使用NoteExpress3.2进行文献管理,再采用CONSORT声明和STRICTA标准进行报告质量评价。结果:最终纳入14篇文献。根据CONSORT条目,11篇描述了各组的基线情况和临床特征;8篇提及产生随机序列的方法;4篇分配方案隐藏充分;4篇采用盲法,且全部为单盲;提及样本含量计算和意向治疗(ITT)分析法的分别为1篇。根据STRICTA条目,13篇文献提及用针数目;8篇提及针具型号,10篇提及针刺深度;1篇文献报告了治疗师的资历。结论:针刺治疗抑郁相关睡眠障碍的随机对照试验的质量有待提高。

Clinical significance of the low normal sperm morphology value as proposed in the fifth edition of the WHO Laboratory Manual for the Examination and Processing of Human Semen

The very low cut-off value for sperm morphology of 4% morphologically normal spermatozoa, as proposed in the new edition of the World Health Organization （WHO） manual on semen analysis, is in agreement with recently published values and reflects the trend of a decline in reported mean values for normal sperm morphology. The reduced value for morphologically normal spermatozoa over the years may be due to several factors. The first is the introduction of strict criteria for the evaluation of sperm morphology. Other reasons may include the introduction of additional criteria for sperm morphology abnormalities and the suggested decrease in semen parameters because of increasing negative environmental influences. Although on its own the newly proposed very low normal value may not provide the strong predictive value for a males＇ fertility potential, as originally reported for sperm morphology evaluated according to strict criteria, a good predictive value can still be obtained if the holistic, strict approach for sperm morphology evaluation is followed together with additional sperm morphology parameters now available, because certain morphology patterns and sperm abnormalities are now known to be of strong prognostic value. In addition, better international standardization of the technical methodology, consensus on the interpretation of sperm morphology evaluation criteria and standardized international external quality control （EQC） schemes, are of utmost importance to maintain the good predictive value of sperm morphology.

Prevention of esophageal strictures after endoscopic submucosal dissection

Endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) have recently been accepted as less invasive methods for treating patients with early esophageal cancers such as squamous cell carcinoma and dysplasia of Barrett's esophagus.However,the large defects in the esophageal mucosa often cause severe esophageal strictures,which dramatically reduce the patient's quality of life.Although preventive endoscopic balloon dilatation can reduce dysphagia and the frequency of dilatation,other approaches are necessary to prevent esophageal strictures after ESD.This review describes several strategies for preventing esophageal strictures after ESD,with a particular focus on anti-inflammatory and tissue engineering approaches.The local injection of triamcinolone acetonide and other systemic steroid therapies are frequently used to prevent esophageal strictures after ESD.Tissue engineering approaches for preventing esophageal strictures have recently been applied in basic research studies.Scaffolds with temporary stents have been applied in five cases,and this technique has been shown to be safe and is anticipated to prevent esophageal strictures.Fabricated autologous oral mucosal epithelial cell sheets to cover the defective mucosa similarly to how commercially available skin products fabricated from epidermal cells are used for skin defects or in cases of intractable ulcers.Fabricated autologous oralmucosal-epithelial cell sheets have already been shown to be safe.

EXISTENCE OF SOLUTIONS OF A FAMILY OF NONLINEAR BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS IN L^2-SPACES

By using the perturbation results of sums of ranges of accretive mappings of Calvert and Gupta(1978),the abstract results on the existence of solutions of a family of nonlinear boundary value problems in L2(Ω) are studied.The equation discussed in this paper and the methods used here are extension and complement to the corresponding results of Wei Li and He Zhen's previous papers.Especially,some new techniques are used in this paper.

Measurement and significance of sperm morphology

The measurement or evaluation and clinical significance of human sperm morphology has always been and still is a controversial aspect of the semen analysis for the determination of a male＇s fertility potential. In this review the background of the development of the evaluation criteria for sperm morphology will be discussed. Aspects of criticism on the strict criteria definition and use of the criteria for sperm morphology evaluation will be discussed as well as possible reasons for the decline in normal sperm morphology values and how we can compromise for this phenomenon resulting in the very low normal reference value as published in the 2010 WHO manual for the Examination and Processing of Human Semen. One of the possible solutions may be to give more attention to a limited number of abnormal sperm morphology categories and the inclusion of sperm morphology patterns. It is concluded in this review that if done correctly and with care and with strict application of existing guidelines as outlined in the 2010 WHO manual, sperm morphology measurement still has a very important role to play in the clinical evaluation of male fertility potential.

SOME RESULTS ON GENERALIZED EQUILIBRIUM PROBLEMS INVOLVING STRICTLY PSEUDOCONTRACTIVE MAPPINGS

In this paper,we consider an iterative sequence for generalized equilibrium problems and strictly pseudocontractive mappings.We show that the iterative sequence converges strongly to a common element of the solution set of generalized equilibrium problems and of the fixed point set of strictly pseudocontractive mappings.

AN ITERATIVE PROCESS FOR FINDING APPROXIMATE SOLUTIONS TO NONLINEAR EQUATIONS OF STRONGLY ACCRETIVE OPERATORS

In this paper, we investigate the Ishikawa iteration process in a p-uniformly smooth Banach space X. We prove that the Ishikawa iteration process converges strongly to the unique solution of the equation Tx=f when T is a Lipschitzian and strongly accretive operator frow X to X, or to the unique fixed point of T when T is a Lipschitzian and strictly pseudocontractive mapping from a nonempty closed convex subset K of X into itself. Our results are the extension and improvements of the earlier and recent results in this field.

A QP-FREE AND SUPERLINEARLY CONVERGENT ALGORITHM FOR INEQUALITY CONSTRAINED OPTIMIZATIONS

In this paper, a new mixed quasi-Newton method for inequality constrained optimization problems is proposed. The feature of the method is that only the systems of linear equations are solved in each iteration, other than the quadratic programming, which decrease the amount of computations and is also efficient for large scale problem. Under some mild assumptions without the strict complementary condition., the method is globally and superlinearly convergent.

In this paper, we study the extension of isometries between the unit spheres of complex Banach spaces lp（Γ） and lp（△）（p 〉1）. We first derive the representation of isometries between the unit spheres of complex Banach spaces lp（Γ） and lp（△）. Then we arrive at a conclusion that any surjective isometry between the unit spheres of complex Banach spaces lp（Γ）and lp（△） can be extended to be a linear isometry on the whole space.
