Optical multilayer thin film structures have been widely used in numerous photonic applications. However, existing inverse design methods have many drawbacks because they either fail to quickly adapt to different design targets,or are difficult to suit for different types of structures,e.g.,designing for different materials at each layer. These methods also cannot accommodate versatile design situations under different angles and polarizations. In addition, how to benefit practical fabrications and manufacturing has not been extensively considered yet.In this work,we introduce OptoGPT(Opto Generative Pretrained Transformer),a decoder-only transformer,to solve all these drawbacks and issues simultaneously. 展开更多

The deep‐sea ground contains a huge amount of energy and mineral resources, for example, oil, gas, and minerals.Various infrastructures such as floating structures, seabed structures, and foundations have been developed to exploit these resources. The seabed structures and foundations can be mainly classified into three types:subsea production structures, offshore pipelines, and anchors. This study reviewed the development, installation, and operation of these infrastructures, including their structures, design, installation, marine environment loads, and applications. On this basis, the research gaps and further research directions were explored through this literature review.First, different floating structures were briefly analyzed and reviewed to introduce the design requirements of the seabed structures and foundations.Second, the subsea production structures, including subsea manifolds and their foundations, were reviewed and discussed.Third, the basic characteristics and design methods of deep‐sea pipelines, including subsea pipelines and risers, were analyzed and reviewed. Finally, the installation and bearing capacity of deep‐sea subsea anchors and seabed trench influence on the anchor were reviewed.Through the review,it was found that marine environment conditions are the key inputs for any offshore structure design. The fabrication, installation, and operation of infrastructures should carefully consider the marine loads and geological conditions.Different structures have their own mechanical problems. The fatigue and stability of pipelines mainly depend on the soil‐structure interaction.Anchor selection should consider soil types and possible trench formation. These focuses and research gaps can provide a helpful guide on further research, installation, and operation of deep‐sea structures and foundations. 展开更多

Produced in power plants, electrical energy is transported to places of consumption via the electricity network. At the heart of this network are the supports that allow electricity to be efficiently transported over long distances, guaranteeing the security and supply of energy to the various centers of use. In the construction of a line, supports occupy an important part in terms of safety and construction cost. It is therefore essential to optimize their use to reduce the cost of transmission lines. This work addresses this problem, which focuses on the optimal utilization of X-lattice towers in the construction of overhead power lines. The challenge is to reconcile the search for optimal cost and respect for the design, resistance and service constraints of the structure. To do this, a parameter having a strong correlation with the weight, foundation and construction cost of the X-lattice tower for 161 kV lines is determined as an important cost variable. This parameter is the wheelbase of the towers. The junction point between the structure and the foundations is obtained by measuring the forces at the base of the tower following the lowering of the loads. These efforts make it possible to size foundations which are of the inverted or isolated sole type. The results obtained reveal that from 8 meters in width, the wheelbase gradually changes until the optimum is obtained at 6.29 meters. With this wheelbase, the production cost is optimal. It clearly emerges from this study that the construction of lattice pylons with a wheelbase of approximately 6.29 meters makes it possible to optimize the cost of construction of 161 kV lines in the Republic of Benin. 展开更多

The target reliability indices of the foundation structures of sea-crossing bridges on the serviceability limit state (SLS) are different from those of common bridges due to their different surroundings. Consequently, three levels of the target reliability indices, which are 1.5, 2. 0 and 2. 3, respectively, for those structures on the SLS are suggested based on the Joint Committee on Structural Safety (JCSS) model code, and a new method of calibrating factors of live loads, which is based on the contribution ratio of tensile stresses of reinforcing bars produced by various loads to the maximum crack width of concrete, is proposed. Finally, the calibration of the reliability-based factors of the frequent value and the quasi-permanent value of live loads is conducted by the Joint Committee (JC) method through an actual design, and the indices are proved to be reasonable and the new method is proved to be feasible. 展开更多

Currently, the Al_(2)O_(3)content in the high-alumina slag systems within blast furnaces is generally limited to 16wt%–18.5wt%,making it challenging to overcome this limitation.Unlike most studies that concentrated on managing the MgO/Al_(2)O_(3)ratio or basicity, this paper explored the effect of equimolar substitution of MgO for CaO on the viscosity and structure of a high-alumina CaO-MgO-Al_(2)O_(3)-SiO_(2)slag system, providing theoretical guidance and data to facilitate the application of high-alumina ores. The results revealed that the viscosity first decreased and then increased with higher MgO substitution, reaching a minimum at 15mol%MgO concentration.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)results found that the depths of the troughs representing[SiO_(4)]tetrahedra,[AlO_(4)]tetrahedra,and Si-O-Al bending became progressively deeper with increased MgO substitution.Deconvolution of the Raman spectra showed that the average number of bridging oxygens per Si atom and the X_(Q^(3))/X_(Q^(2))(X_(Q^(i))is the molar fraction of Q^(i) unit, and i is the number of bridging oxygens in a[SiO_(4)]tetrahedral unit)ratio increased from 2.30 and 1.02 to 2.52 and 2.14,respectively,indicating a progressive polymerization of the silicate structure.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)results highlighted that non-bridging oxygen content decreased from 77.97mol% to 63.41mol% with increasing MgO concentration, whereas bridging oxygen and free oxygen contents increased.Structural analysis demonstrated a gradual increase in the polymerization degree of the tetrahedral structure with the increase in MgO substitution. However, bond strength is another important factor affecting the slag viscosity. The occurrence of a viscosity minimum can be attributed to the complex evolution of bond strengths of non-bridging oxygens generated during depolymerization of the[SiO_(4)]and[AlO_(4)]tetrahedral structures by CaO and MgO. 展开更多

Atomic-scale doping strategies and structure design play pivotal roles in tailoring the electronic structure and physicochemical property of electromagnetic wave absorption(EMWA)materials. However, the relationship between configuration and electromagnetic(EM)loss mechanism has remained elusive.Herein, drawing inspiration from the DNA transcription process,we report the successful synthesis of novel in situ Mn/N co-doped helical carbon nanotubes with ultrabroad EMWA capability.Theoretical calculation and EM simulation confirm that the orbital coupling and spin polarization of the Mn–N4–C configuration, along with cross polarization generated by the helical structure, endow the helical converters with enhanced EM loss.As a result,HMC-8 demonstrates outstanding EMWA performance, achieving a minimum reflection loss of−63.13 dB at an ultralow thickness of 1.29 mm.Through precise tuning of the graphite domain size,HMC-7 achieves an effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 6.08 GHz at 2.02 mm thickness.Furthermore, constructing macroscale gradient metamaterials enables an ultrabroadband EAB of 12.16 GHz at a thickness of only 5.00 mm,with the maximum radar cross section reduction value reaching 36.4 dB m2.This innovative approach not only advances the understanding of metal–nonmetal co-doping but also realizes broadband EMWA,thus contributing to the development of EMWA mechanisms and applications. 展开更多

An investigation of soil-pile-structure interaction is carried out, based on a large reciprocating compressor installed on an elevated concrete foundation (table top structure). A practical method is described for the dynamic analysis, and compared with a 3D finite element (FE) model. Two commercial software packages are used for dynamic analysis considering the soilpile-structure interaction (SPSI). Stiffness and damping of the pile foundation are generated from a computer program, and then input into the FE model. To examine the SPSI thoroughly, three cases for the soil, piles and superstructure are considered and compared. In the first case, the interaction is fully taken into account, that is, both the superstructure and soil-pile system are flexible. In the second case, the superstructure is flexible but fixed to a rigid base, with no deformation in the base (no SSI). In the third case, the dynamic soil-pile interaction is taken into account, but the table top structure is assumed to be rigid. From the comparison beteen the results of these three cases some conclusions are made, which could be helpful for engineering practice. 展开更多

This is the second paper of two, which describe the results of an integrated research effort to develop a four-step simplified approach for design of raft foundations against dip-slip (normal and thrust) fault rupture. The first two steps dealing with fault rupture propagation in the free-field were presented in the companion paper. This paper develops an approximate analytical method to analyze soil-foundation-structure interaction (SFSI), involving two additional phenomena: (i) fault rupture diversion (Step 3); and (ii) modification of the vertical displacement profile (Step 4). For the first phenomenon (Step 3), an approximate energy-based approach is developed to estimate the diversion of a fault rupture due to presence of a raft foundation. The normalized critical load for complete diversion is shown to be a function of soil strength, coefficient of earth pressure at rest, bedrock depth, and the horizontal position of the foundation relative to the outcropping fault rupture. For the second phenomenon (Step 4), a heuristic approach is proposed, which "scans" through possible equilibrium positions to detect the one that best satisfies force and moment equilibrium. Thus, we account for the strong geometric nonlinearities that govern this interaction, such as uplifting and second order (P-△) effects. Comparisons with centrifuge-validated finite element analyses demonstrate the efficacy of the method. Its simplicity makes possible its utilization for preliminary design. 展开更多

The new supporting structure is assembled by prefabricated steel structural units. The adjacent steel structural units are jointed with fasteners, and each steel structural unit has a certain radian and is welded by two steel tubes and one piece of steel disc. In order to test and verify the reliability of the new supporting structure, the field tests are designed. The main monitoring programs include the hoop stress of supporting structure, lateral earth pressure, and soil deformation. The interaction between the liftboat structure and the foundation can provide significant fixity. Both methods of numerical simulation and experimental test are adopted to study the fixity. An experimental model to the scale of 1:40 ofa liftboat was mounted on a sand box in the laboratory, and also a three-dimensional FEM model was established in the numerical simulation. The variation of the fixity and the maximum stress in the legs are studied. On the basis of the fact that the experimental data are in good agreement with the numerical simulation results, the fixity is further studied by numerical simulation with different soil foundation parameters and different sizes of spuncans. 展开更多

An integrated finite element model(FEM)of offshore wind tower-foundation-soil is established by ABAQUS, where a large-scale composite bucket foundation with seven compartments inside is applied to supporting the upper wind tower. The dynamic response of the structure-foundation system is studied under three seismic waves with the same peak ground acceleration of 0.035 g. It can be seen that the dynamic response increases at the beginning with the structure height, then it decreases because the structural damping increases due to the mass effect of the upper wind turbine generator system. It is shown that the anti-liquefaction capacity of the soil inside and underneath the foundation is improved owing to the high overburden pressure of the upper structure and the constraint effect of the bucket skirt and subdivisions. Moreover, the liquefaction resistance of the soil inside the middle compartment is improved to a higher degree than that inside the side compartments. 展开更多

Many studies have been undertaken to predict local scour around offshore high-rise structure foundations(HRSFs),which have been used in constructing the Donghai Wind Farm in China. However, there have been few works on the turbulent flow that drives the scour process. In this study, the characteristics of the turbulent flow fields around an HRSF were investigated using the particle image velocimetry technique. The mean flow, vorticity, and turbulence intensity were analyzed in detail. The relationship between the flow feature and scour development around an HRSF was elaborated. The results showed that the flow velocity increased to its maximum value near the third row of the pile group. The shear layer and wake vortices could not be fully developed downstream of the last row of the piles at small Reynolds numbers. The strong flow and turbulent fluctuation near the third piles explained the existence of a longtail scour pattern starting from the HRSF shoulders and a trapezoidal deposition region directly downstream of HRSF.This laboratory experiment gains insight into the mechanism of the turbulent flow around HRSFs and provides a rare dataset for numerical model verifications. 展开更多

Soil-structure interaction (SSI) of a building and shear wall above a foundation in an elastic half-space has long been an important research subject for earthquake engineers and strong-motion seismologists. Numerous papers have been published since the early 1970s; however, very few of these papers have analytic closed-form solu- tions available. The soil-structure interaction problem is one of the most classic problems connecting the two dis- ciplines of earthquake engineering and civil engineering. The interaction effect represents the mechanism of energy transfer and dissipation among the elements of the dynamic system, namely the soil subgrade, foundation, and super- structure. This interaction effect is important across many structure, foundation, and subgrade types but is most pro- nounced when a rigid superstructure is founded on a rela- tively soft lower foundation and subgrade. This effect may only be ignored when the subgrade is much harder than a flexible superstructure: for instance a flexible moment frame superstructure founded on a thin compacted soil layer on top of very stiff bedrock below. This paper will study the interaction effect of the subgrade and the super- structure. The analytical solution of the interaction of a shear wall, flexible-rigid foundation, and an elastic half- space is derived for incident SH waves with various angles of incidence. It found that the flexible ring (soft layer) cannot be used as an isolation mechanism to decouple asuperstructure from its substructure resting on a shaking half-space. 展开更多

The need for simplified physical models representing frequency dependent soil impedances has been the motivation behind many researches throughout history. Generally, such models are generated to capture impedance functions in a wide range of excitation frequencies, which leads to relatively complex models. That is while there is just a limited range of frequencies that really influence the response of the structure. Here, a new methodology based on the response-matching concept is proposed, which can lead to the development of simpler discrete models. The idea is then used to upgrade an existing simple model of surface foundations to the case of embedded foundations. The applicability of the model in both frequency domain and time domain analyses of soil-structure systems with embedded foundations is discussed. Moreover, the accuracy of the results is compared with another existing discrete model for embedded foundations. 展开更多

The most important parameter used to determine force reduction factors in force-based design procedures adopted in the current seismic codes is the structural ductility. For a structure supported on a flexible foundation, the ductility factor could be affected by foundation compliances. The ductility factors given in the current codes are mostly assigned ignoring the effect of SSI and therefore the objective of this research is to assess the significance of SSI phenomenon on ductility factors of stack-like structures. The deformed configuration of stack-fike structures is idealized as an assemblage of beam elements considering nonlinear moment-curvature relations, while a linear sway-rocking model was implemented to model the supporting soil. Using a set of artificial records, repeated linear and nonlinear analyses were performed by gradually increasing the intensity of acceleration to a level where the first yielding of steel in linear and nonlinear analyses is observed and a level corresponding to the stack collapse in the nonlinear analysis. The difference between inelastic and elastic resistance in terms of displacement ductility factors has been quantified. The results indicate that foundation flexibility can decrease the ductility of the system and neglecting this phenomenon may lead to erroneous conclusions in the prediction of the seismic performance of flexibly-supported R/C stack-like structures. 展开更多

Based on the theory of coordinating action of building ground, foundation and structure, this paper presents a modified method for calculating additional stresses on buildings in mining areas by considering the joint effect of cur- vature deformation and horizontal deformation on buildings. It points out that for buildings over the coal pillar, it is ad- visable to soften the intermediate ground of buildings when they are affected by mining. For buildings over the goaf, it is preferable to soften the ground at both ends of buildings. In order to enhance the ability of a building to resist tensile deformation, the key measure is to reinforce the bottom foundation of the building. In addition, the concept of “angle of break of building” is proposed. It is because of this angle that the protecting coal pillar is left, which is a better solution than prevailing solutions The findings provide a more scientific basis for mining under buildings. 展开更多

An efficient computational approach based on substructure methodology is proposed to analyze the viaduct-pile foundation-soil dynamic interaction under train loads.Thetrain-viaductsubsystemissolvedusingthe dynamic stiffness integration method, and its accuracy is verified by the existing analytical solution for a moving vehicle on a simply supported beam. For the pile foundation-soil subsystem, the geometric and material properties of piles and soils are assumed to be invariable along the azimuth direction.By introducing the equivalent stiffness of grouped piles, the governing equations of pile foundation-soil interaction are simplified based on Fourier decomposition method,so the three-dimensional problem is decomposedintoseveraltwo-dimensionalaxisymmetricfinite element models. The pile foundation-soil interaction model is verified by field measurements due to shaker loading at pile foundation top.In addition, these two substructures are coupled with the displacement compatibility condition at interface of pier bottom and pile foundation top. Finally, the proposed train-viaduct-pile foundation-soil interaction model was validated by field tests. The results show that the proposed model can predict vibrations of pile foundation and soil accurately, thereby providing a basis for the prediction of pile-soil foundation settlement. The frequency spectra of the vibration in Beijing-Tianjin high-speed railway demonstrated that the main frequencies of the pier top and ground surface are below 100 and 30 Hz,respectively. 展开更多
