A REPORT ON MINORITY STUDENTS LEARNING ENGLISH IN KUNMING,CHINA

The author of this paper has recently carried out a survey on some minority students majoring inEnglish in Kunming,China.The survey,through interviews and a questionnaire,has found out thatthese minority students learn English somewhat differently from the majority Chinese students in thatthe minority students learn English as L3.So they have interference from not only Chinese (L2) butalso their local language (L1).The purpose of this paper is to offer some information on how the mi-nority students with a local language (L1) and Chinese L2,learn English as L3.

This paper gives an understanding of PAD-based class acceptance among modern Chinese college students’English learning.It first introduces the brief definition of what the PAD-based class is,as well as the situation of English language learning in present China,especially the learning amongst Chinese college students.And then it focuses on the acceptance of the PADbased class in the English learning of Chinese college students,including the breakthrough of the traditional Chinese classroom teaching mode and the innovation of the PAD-based class among Chinese college students’English learning.

A Meta-Synthesis Study of MOOC Literature on Students' Learning

This research is a meta-synthesis study of Massive online open course(MOOC) literature on students' learning.It aims to investigate key components for the design of a MOOC as well as the benefits and challenged engaged in MOOCs' learning.It is found that in MOOC's all stages,discussion forum,video features and instructor's teaching are well connected to each other.

The study’s findings will provide insights into the effectiveness of remote learning and inform ideas to improve student learning and achievement in an educational virtual world. Ableism and (Neo)Racism in School Placement Processes in Quebec: School Personnel Interpretations of Immigrant Student Difficulties - A Secondary Publication

The school placement processes of students from immigrant backgrounds considered to be in“difficulty”is an international concern at the intersection of works relating to special education and those concerning the school experiences of students from immigrant backgrounds or racialized groups.The research problem of this article concerns the identification of these students as disabled or as having adjustment or learning difficulties.From a perspective anchored in Disability Critical Race Studies,this ethnographic study documents different interpretations of perceived difficulties made by school actors with regard to seven primary school students from immigrant backgrounds.Five interpretation types are presented:(1)medicalization by dismissal of cultural markers,(2)medicalization by professional constraint,(3)medicalization by cultural deficit,(4)precautionary wait,and(5)cultural differentialism.Our results help to shed light on the special education overrepresentation phenomenon regarding these students and to understand how ableism and(neo)racism contribute to it.

Active Learning Improves Nursing Student Clinical Performance in an Academic Institution in Macao

Objective： To assess the outcome of the application of active learning during practicum among nursing students using clinical assessment and evaluation scores as a measurement. Methods： Nursing students were instructed on the basics of active learning prior to the initiation of their clinical experience. The participants were divided into 5groups of nursing students （ n = 56） across three levels （years 2-4） in a public academic institute of a bachelor degree program in Macao. Final clinical evaluation was averaged and compared between groups with and without intervention. Results： These nursing students were given higher appraisals in verbal and written comments than previous students without interventian. The groups with the invention achieved higher clinical assessment and evaluation scores on average than comparable groups without the active learning intervention. One group of sophomore nursing students （year 2） did not receive as high of evaluations as the other groups, receiving an average score of above 80. Conclusions＂ Nursing students must engage in active learning to demonstrate that they are willing to gain knowledge of theory, nursing skills and communication skills during the clinical practicum.

A Collaborative Service to the Community: A COVID Vaccine Clinic Provided by a Mid-State University

The opportunity to offer immediate service to a local community in need of an additional COVID Vaccine Clinic was welcomed by the School of Nursing (SON) at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). This opportunity not only opened a door by providing a much-needed community service but also afforded students an enriching opportunity to enhance their clinical skills in a venue not always recognized as an available or accessible resource. A COVID Vaccine Clinic was planned in collaboration with the School of Nursing, University Health Services, and the County Health Department to provide COVID vaccines to the Middle Tennessee area. A multidisciplinary committee met weekly to organize the COVID Vaccine Clinic opening this opportunity to the community two days per week. During the initial COVID Vaccine Clinic planning committee meetings, a variety of roles and responsibilities were identified to ensure the clinic would be planned, coordinated, and organized as efficiently as possible. When the clinic opened, weekly meetings continued to identify issues such as supply distribution problems, procedures related to various aspects of care, and debriefings describing the activities of each clinic day to note any areas in need of improvements. The School of Nursing Lobby, located on the MTSU campus, was the designated area chosen for the clinic. Many faculty and students along with numerous campus volunteers worked together enabling thousands of members of the community to receive vaccinations. The interdisciplinary experience was a success and served to bring positive learning outcomes to all members of the faculty and students involved.

WHAT DO MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS BRING TO ENGLISH LEARNING?——A QUESTIONNAIRE INVESTIGATION REPORT

This paper reports on an investigation conducted in thePearl River Delta Region of Guangdong Province.Theinvestigation was intended to collect data about middle schoolstudents’motivation for English learning,their views on thedifficulty of learning the language,their learning methods andexpectations for teacher roles.In light of the investigationfindings,four points are summed up.First,there is a seriousloss of junior middle school students’interest in Englishlearning.In other words,the higher the grade,the fewer thestudents interested in learning the language.Second,Englishgrammar is a universal problem for most students.However,they tend to have different difficulties at different learningstages.Third,most junior middle school students are well awareof their own responsibilities for successful learning,but they donot necessarily know how to learn effectively.Finally,juniormiddle school students stress teacher roles not only as instructorbut as helper,and have made great demands on the teacher’steaching methods.

HELPING EFL STUDENTS LEARN TO WRITE THROUGH FEEDBACK

There have been a lot of complaints from theteachers who teach English writing in China on theheavy load of correcting students’ work and the low ef-ficiency involved.This article discusses the problemscaused by the traditional approach to teaching Englishwriting,and suggests that one way to improve stu-dents writing skills is to develop students’ composingprocesses,especially the process of revision.Based onresearch findings and the many-year teaching practice,the author describes some ways of helping studentslearn to write through using feedback effectively.

Which Type of Interpersonal Interaction Better Facilitates College Student Learning and Development in China:Face-to-Face or Online?

Purpose:This study attempts to explore how Chinese college students engage in face-to-facesynchronous and online asynchronous interactions and examine how the two different interacition types are associated with their academic learning(learning achievement and the developmentof research skills),satisfaction,and their perceptions of learning environments.DesignlApproach/Methods:A sample of 3,999 undergraduate students from a research university in Northern China participated in the survey.Aseries of cluster analysis,one-way analysisof variance,and hierarchical multiple regression were conducted.Findings:The cluster analysis results revealed that there were four types of learners amongthese students and thata large percentage of Chinese undergraduates were classified into eitherdigital communicators(36.16%)or passive interactors(32.71%).In general the face-to-facesynchronous interaction generated more desirable academic learning perceptions of the learn-ing environment,and higher satisfaction than the online asynchronous interaction in mostaspects.However,the asynchronous online interaction fostered student autonomy and contributed to students'completion of an in-depth thesis.OriginalitylValue:By distinguishing face-to-face synchronous versus online asynchronousinteractions,this study led toan enhanced knowledge of the interactive patterns of Chinesecollege students and uncovered the specific effects of the two types ofinterpersonal interactionsin Chinese research universities.
