The Nature and Use of Technology-Based Self-Regulated Learning Strategies Among EFL Students

This study explored the nature and use of technology-based self-regulated learning(SRL)strategies among the Chinese university students.A total of 20 undergraduate students in China's Mainland were invited to participate in a focus group interview.The students reported using four types of technology-based SRL strategies including cognitive,meta-cognitive,social behavioral,and motivational regulation strategies.Among the strategies,technology-based vocabulary learning was reported to be a dominant strategy by the students.This study opens a new window to understanding how English as a foreign language(EFL)students utilize different strategies to learn English in technology-based learning context.

Surveying on English Mobile Learning Among University Students: Current State and Influencing Factors

Mobile learning integrates mobile technology with digital learning,offering flexible,personalized content and portable equipment.It enables access to rich content and enhances learning efficiency.Therefore,it has become mainstream to utilize mobile devices for English learning among university students’English learning.The current study aims to examine the current situation and influencing factors of university students’English mobile learning.98 university students in one university of Shanghai participated the study and the questionnaire was used to collect the data.The results indicated that most university students already have electronic devices to support mobile learning.Personal factors,environmental factors,digital literacy,and technological capabilities are the main factors affecting university students’English mobile learning.The current study has implications for learners,teachers,and software developers.Learners should adjust their learning motivation,play an active role,and fully utilize the mobile platform to obtain resources and improve learning efficiency.Teachers should incorporate the advantages of mobile teaching and promote categorized and tiered teaching.Software developers should add new functions on the basis of meeting the basic needs of learners and continuously innovate the mobile learning platform.

Evaluation of Chinese Learning Efficiency of International Students in China:Comparing by Dimension

This paper introduces the Value Engineering method to calculate the value coefficient of Chinese learning efficiency for 377 international students by dimension.Results suggest that attention should be paid to male,European and American,rural,introverted,and“work or education needs”international students;Give full play to the driving role of the reference-type,explore the space for improving the learning efficiency of the improvement-type and attention-type,and pay attention to the problems of problem-type international students.

Evaluation of Chinese Learning Efficiency of International Students in China

This paper investigates the related factors of Chinese learning engagement and performance of 377 students from three universities in Guangzhou of China,employs the value engineering method,and calculates the value coefficient of learning efficiency.From the value coefficient of Chinese language learning,it proves that over 60%of international students studying in China have a higher efficiency in learning Chinese.

How Presence Affects College Students’Online Learning Outcomes:Unveiling Its Underlying Mechanism

Over the past few years,China’s higher education institutions have experienced remarkable growth in online teaching.However,it remains uncertain whether and how the sense of presence perceived by students affects their online learning outcomes when teachers use online teaching media for communication.This sense specifically pertains to the extent to which students perceive themselves as“real persons”and establish connections with others.Therefore,this study constructs a conceptual model elucidating the impact of presence on students’online learning outcomes and empirically examines the mechanism through which three types of presence influence students’online learning.The test results of the structural equation modeling(SEM)indicate that:(a)teaching presence,social presence,and cognitive presence all exhibit significantly positive outcomes on students’online learning outcomes;(b)these three types of presence can also indirectly and positively influence students’online learning outcomes through the mediating effect of flow experience and learning satisfaction;and(c)flow experience and learning satisfaction play a sequential mediating role in the process by which presence impacts students’online learning outcomes.We hope that the relevant research findings may contribute to unveiling the“black box”of the impact of presence on students’online learning outcomes and offer valuable insights for college educators to overcome online teaching constraints and enhance online teaching quality.

The Relationships between the Short Video Addiction,Self-Regulated Learning,and Learning Well-Being of Chinese Undergraduate Students

Background:With the global popularity of short videos,particularly among young people,short video addiction has become a worrying phenomenon that poses significant risks to individual health and adaptability.Self-regulated learning(SRL)strategies are key factors in predicting learning outcomes.This study,based on the SRL theory,uses short video addiction as the independent variable,SRL strategies as the mediating variable,and learning well-being as the outcome variable,aiming to reveal the relationships among short video addiction,self-regulated learning,and learning well-being among Chinese college students.Methods:Using a cross-sectional study design and applying the snowball sampling technique,an online survey was administered to Chinese undergraduate students.A total of 706 valid questionnaires were collected,with an effective response rate of 85.7%.The average age of the participants was 20.5 years.Results:The results of structural equation modeling indicate that 7 hypotheses were supported.Short video addiction was negatively correlated with self-regulated learning strategies(preparatory,performance,and appraisal strategy),while SRL strategies were positively correlated with learning well-being.Additionally,short video addiction had a mediating effect on learning well-being through the three types of SRL strategies.The three types of SRL strategies explained 39%of the variance in learning well-being.Conclusion:Previous research has typically focused on the impact of self-regulated learning strategies on media addiction or problematic media use.This study,based on the SRL model,highlights the negative issues caused by short video addiction and emphasizes the importance of cultivating self-regulation abilities and media literacy.Short video addiction stems from failures in trait self-regulation,which naturally impairs the ability to effectively engage in self-regulation during the learning process.This study confirms and underscores that the SRL model can serve as an effective theoretical framework for helping students prevent short video addiction,engage in high-quality learning,and consequently enhance their learning well-being.

Research on the Effective Path of Cultivating Students’Independent Learning Ability by Analyzing Blended Teaching

Blended teaching in colleges and universities can realize the effective cultivation of students’independent learning ability on the basis of respecting the students’subjective status and demonstrating the concept of human-centered teaching,and then drive the curriculum teaching to realize innovative changes.However,in the current environment,colleges and universities are still facing obstacles such as traditional teachers’concepts,insufficient students’motivation,irrational settings of online and offline teaching,and backward teaching evaluation system,which seriously affect the enhancement of students’independent learning ability.Therefore,colleges and universities should update the teaching concepts of teachers,improve the comprehensive quality of teachers,cultivate the interest of students in participating in blended teaching,and scientifically arrange the online and offline teaching and the integration of both sides in blended teaching to ensure the effective implementation of blended teaching.At the same time,we should pay attention to the innovation of the evaluation system of blended teaching,fully examine the cultivation effect of students’independent learning ability under the perspective of blended teaching,and provide assistance for improving students’independent learning ability.

A Study of Students’Informal Digital Learning of Foreign Language in the Context of Digital Transformation of Vocational Education

Against the backdrop of the digital transformation of vocational education,informal digital learning of foreign language(hereinafter referred to as IDLFL)is an emerging learning model with significant potential for enabling individualized and autonomous learning and improving workplace English proficiency among Higher Vocational Colleges(hereinafter referred to as HVC)students.This study explores how Chinese foreign language teachers in HVC perceive and understand HVC students’IDLFL.Primary data are collected through questionnaires and interviews,and qualitative analysis is conducted based on grounded theory to reveal effective ways to improve the foreign language learning outcomes of HVC students through IDLFL and the corresponding strategies that HVC language teachers should adopt.However,this study also emphasizes the need to be wary of overstating the impact and role of IDLFL in teaching practice.

Efficacy of Online Learning and Influence on Skin and Eyes Among College Students

To evaluate the efficacy of online learning and explore the impact of long-term use of electronic products on facial skin as well as eyes.A cross-sectional survey was conducted to 180 sophomores in Xi′an Jiaotong University by cluster random sampling from September to October 2021.The questionnaire covering study condition,skin lesion and Ocular Surface Disease Index.χ_(2) test was used to compare the facial skin condition among different groups,and spearman correlation test was used to test the correlation of rank data.During online education,students′learning pressure is reduced,their autonomy is improved,and the learning efficiency is reduced.There were differences in the incidence of facial itching and papules among different groups.Duration of use of electronic products was positively correlated with the facial itching,with an r value of 0.231(P<0.05);the proportion of pigmentation in non-blue light protection groups(12.8%)was higher than that in blue light protection groups(1.7%),the difference was statistically significant(χ_(2)=8.384,P<0.05).The prevalence of dry eye among college students is 66.7%,and the proportion of moderate to severe dry eye is 34.5%.The study autonomy has been improved during online teaching.Long-term use of electronic products and no blue light protection have an impact on facial skin.Students should enhance the knowledge of skin-care and eye-care and develop better habits.

An Investigation on the Influence of Middle School Students'Grammar Learning Self-efficacy on Their Learning Performance

In middleschool English teaching,grammar instruction has always been an important and challenging aspect.Due to the strong influence of grammar explanation in Chinese,learning English grammar may be affected by negative transfer from their native language,which could pose certain obstacles to English acquisition.Self-efficacy,as a major emotional factor influencing learners'internal regulation strategies,has attracted wide attention from researchers both domestically and internationally for its impact on learning performance.High self-efficacy helps learners develop a more positive mindset towards learning,thereby contributing to improved learning performance.Therefore,this study focuses on investigating the relationship between grammatical self-efficacy and learning performance of English grammar among middle school students.This research contributes to a complementary understanding of grammatical self-efficacy among educators,enhancing their teaching skills,and effectively guiding students to learn English grammar with a more positive and healthy mindset,presenting a future grammar instruction in middle school English teaching.

Results of the virtual simulation teaching method on autonomous learning competencies of undergraduate nursing students

Background:With the continuous development of information technology,most universities use mobile teaching platforms for classroom teaching.With the help of the national virtual simulation experimental teaching project sharing platform,students can enhance self-directed learning through the virtual simulation operations of the project.Purpose:To explore the application of virtual simulation experiment in teaching the fundamentals of nursing practice based on the Platform of the National Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Project during the COVID-19 pandemic analyze the impact of this teaching method on the autonomous learning ability of undergraduate nursing students.Methods:Convenience sampling was used to select 121 nursing undergraduates from Y University’s School of Nursing;the online teaching of fundamentals of nursing practice was conducted to the students.After taking the course,questionnaires were distributed to the undergraduate nursing students to collect their perceptions regarding the use of the virtual simulation experiment platform and autonomous learning competencies.Results:Most students expressed their preference for the virtual simulation teaching platform,and their satisfaction with the project evaluation was high 83.05%.They hoped to promote the application in future experimental teaching.Undergraduate nursing students believed that the virtual simulation teaching platform was conducive to cultivating clinical thinking ability,could stimulate learning interest,enhanced autonomous learning competencies.Conclusion:During the pandemic,the virtual simulation teaching platform for a lecture on in nursing education has achieved good results in both the aspects of teaching and student learning.Teachers efficiently used their training time and reduced their teaching burden.Moreover,the laboratory cost was also reduced.For undergraduate nursing students,the system was conducive to cultivating clinical thinking ability,stimulating their interest in learning,enhancing their learning and comprehension abilities and learning initiative.

Investigation on the Current Status and Effects of Online Course Learning for Nursing Students

[Objectives]To explore the current situation and effects of online learning from the perspective of students,as well as the learning dynamics,and to explore the online teaching methods.It is possible to put forward relevant suggestions for the problems presented by online teaching,find effective teaching methods,and explore appropriate online teaching methods.[Methods]The nursing students of the 2020,2021,and 2022 grades of Chengde Nursing Vocational College were selected as the research subjects.A self-made questionnaire survey method was adopted.The questionnaire had 5 items and 44 questions:3 questions on personal information,9 questions on the teacher level,12 ques-tions on the student level,7 questions on the technical level,and 13 questions on online learning satisfaction.[Results]In the process of on-line teaching,the cooperation between family and school can be carried out to give full play to the important role of family supervision in online learning and other education,which is conducive to maintaining the discipline of online courses on the Internet,increasing the online learning effect of students,and avoiding the temptation of the Internet to the greatest extent.In the process,we should increase students'self-control in online learning,help students shape realistic goals,and thus improve the effect of online learning.Technical level:increase information-based teaching,enrich teaching content,and introduce virtual simulation software to simulate clinical operations,so as to increase students’interest and enthusiasm in learning.[Conclusions]This study is expected to provide a certain reference for the smooth and efficient development of online teaching and online learning skills.

Psychological Distress in the Association between Medical Education Changes and Clinical Learning Worry among Students Receiving Clinical Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Taiwan,China

Background:The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly impacted medical education and caused psychological distress and worry about clinical learning for those who received clinical medical education during this period.Although the acute phase of COVID-19 has now ended,understanding its impact is essential for strengthening medical system preparedness.Therefore,the present study examined the association between changes in medical education and worry about clinical learning,considering the mediating role of psychological distress among participants who received clinical training.Methods:A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 542 post-graduate year(PGY)doctors and allied health students from the 2020 and 2021 cohorts in Taiwan.The survey assessed changes in clinical training modes,direct patient care,learning stress,psychological distress,and worry about clinical learning.Results:Among the participants,76.0%experienced changes in clinical training mode,and 84.3%had direct patient care experience.Direct patient care/contact was significantly correlated with lower levels of worry about clinical learning.Learning stress was positively correlated with increased psychological distress and worry about clinical learning.Psychological distress partially mediated the relationship between learning stress and worry about clinical learning.Conclusion:The findings highlight the importance of direct contact with patients because it was associated with lower levels of worry about clinical learning.Moreover,increased learning stress was associated with psychological distress and worry about clinical learning.Therefore,effective support systems are essential to mitigate these impacts and enhance clinical training during national health crises.The findings provide valuable insights for improving medical education and support systems in future health emergencies.However,the present study used a cross-sectional study design.Therefore,the mediation findings should be interpreted with caution(i.e.,no causal relationships can be determined based on cross-sectional data).

A Study on the Impact of Psychological Counseling for Minor Medical Students in Clinical Teaching and Learning

Objective:To explore the impact of psychological counseling for underage medical students in clinical teaching.Methods:24 of the 48 underage medical students who were interned in our hospital from March 2023 to February 2024 were randomly selected to adopt the teaching management method of one-on-one psychological guidance as the observation group;the remaining 24 adopted the traditional teaching management method as the control group.The observation of the effects of psychological detachment on various aspects of underage medical students allows the determination of whether psychological detachment impacts clinical teaching.Results:The observation group’s theoretical examination scores,skill assessment scores,and departmental performance evaluation scale score excellence rate were higher than the control group’s,with P<0.05 being statistically significant.At the same time,the clinical teaching and teaching management ability of the hospital was also improved.Conclusion:Psychological guidance for underage medical students can not only improve the comprehensive quality of medical students but also improve the teaching level,which is conducive to improving the teaching effect,and it is a clinical teaching mode worth promoting.

SensFL:Privacy-Preserving Vertical Federated Learning with Sensitive Regularization

In the realm of Intelligent Railway Transportation Systems,effective multi-party collaboration is crucial due to concerns over privacy and data silos.Vertical Federated Learning(VFL)has emerged as a promising approach to facilitate such collaboration,allowing diverse entities to collectively enhance machine learning models without the need to share sensitive training data.However,existing works have highlighted VFL’s susceptibility to privacy inference attacks,where an honest but curious server could potentially reconstruct a client’s raw data from embeddings uploaded by the client.This vulnerability poses a significant threat to VFL-based intelligent railway transportation systems.In this paper,we introduce SensFL,a novel privacy-enhancing method to against privacy inference attacks in VFL.Specifically,SensFL integrates regularization of the sensitivity of embeddings to the original data into the model training process,effectively limiting the information contained in shared embeddings.By reducing the sensitivity of embeddings to the original data,SensFL can effectively resist reverse privacy attacks and prevent the reconstruction of the original data from the embeddings.Extensive experiments were conducted on four distinct datasets and three different models to demonstrate the efficacy of SensFL.Experiment results show that SensFL can effectively mitigate privacy inference attacks while maintaining the accuracy of the primary learning task.These results underscore SensFL’s potential to advance privacy protection technologies within VFL-based intelligent railway systems,addressing critical security concerns in collaborative learning environments.

On Reducing Students' Anxiety in English Listening through Cooperative Learning

Listening is an important means by which English learners can obtain information and communicate with others. Therefore, listening is an important skill of English learning and listening training is an indispensible part of language learning. However, listening can easily be affected by anxiety. Anxiety, an obvious psychological phenomenon in listening and speaking, has negative effect on language input, process and output. Although anxiety has negative influence on English listening, it can be overcome by Cooperative Learning (CL). CL can reduce anxiety, improve communication ability and strengthen learners' confidence, etc.
