In the information age, the innovative technologies of mobile devices make the dramatical changes in ways of teaching and learning (Atkinson, 2011; Bierstaker, Janvrin & Lowe, 2014, Pittaway, 2012; Yang & Che, 2015). The focus of this study aims to examine ESP college students' English learning performance by using Context Aware Mobile Situated Learning (CAMSL) in Tourism and Hospitality Management field and other majors. The mixed research method is conducted for data collection and analysis. The quantitative data are collected by examining students' learning performance; the qualitative data are allowed to understand the students' perspective toward their role in using the CAMSL with Tourism related content. Eight-three students are randomly selected and divided into two groups: 42 students are assigned in the experimental group A (CAMSL), and 41 students are assigned in control group. Two groups of students receive pretest and posttest to examine their English performance. Besides, twenty students from group A and B are selected for online survey. The survey is mailed directly to students' email account. Results represented by using CAMSL show the significant improvement on students' learning performance. In addition, the survey data indicate the benefits of using the CAMSL help students enhance their academic discourse, develop their learned knowledge to represent their profession, use English properly to speak themselves up, and provide the effectiveness of obtain domain knowledge in future workplace.展开更多

Research has shown that interpreting anxiety, as the biggest emotional obstacle in the interpreting process, is the main emotional factor that leads to individual differences in interpreting. Students often claim to have fear or anxiety behaviors in interpreting exams, interpreting competitions, and interpreting classes. However, the research on interpreting teaching attaches importance to the cultivation of language knowledge, cultural knowledge, and interpreting skills, and does not pay enough attention to emotional factors such as motivation and anxiety in interpreting learning, which makes it difficult for the cultivated interpreters to meet the requirements of professional practice. In recent years, virtual reality technology (VR) has been gradually applied in the field of foreign language and interpreting teaching for creating a real, interactive and experiential language learning environment. Situated Learning Theory stresses that the fundamental mechanism for learning to take place is for individuals to participate in the real context in which knowledge is generated, and to realize the construction of knowledge through the interaction with the community of practice and the environment. Virtual reality technology can satisfy the needs of language learners for real contexts by providing learners with immersive, imaginative and interactive scenario simulations, and has a certain positive effect on alleviating learning anxiety. Therefore, relying on the virtual simulation course “United Nations Kubuqi International Desert Ecological Science and Technology Innovation International Volunteer Language Service Practical Training System”, this paper adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses to investigate the interpretation anxiety level of the interpreter trainees and the factors affecting them in the VR situation to help them discover effective responses to interpreter anxiety.展开更多

文摘E-learning behavior data indicates several students’activities on the e-learning platform such as the number of accesses to a set of resources and number of participants in lectures. This article proposes a new analytics systemto support academic evaluation for students via e-learning activities to overcome the challenges faced by traditional learning environments. The proposed e-learning analytics system includes a new deep forest model. It consists of multistage cascade random forests with minimal hyperparameters compared to traditional deep neural networks. The developed forest model can analyze each student’s activities during the use of an e-learning platform to give accurate expectations of the student’s performance before ending the semester and/or the final exam.Experiments have been conducted on the Open University Learning Analytics Dataset(OULAD)of 32,593 students. Our proposed deep model showed a competitive accuracy score of 98.0%compared to artificial intelligence-based models, such as ConvolutionalNeuralNetwork(CNN)and Long Short-TermMemory(LSTM)in previous studies. That allows academic advisors to support expected failed students significantly and improve their academic level at the right time.Consequently, the proposed analytics system can enhance the quality of educational services for students in an innovative e-learning framework.

文摘Blended learning(BL)has been widely adopted to improve students’academic achievements in higher education. However, its success relies mainly on student engagement, which plays an essential role in active learning and provides a rich understanding of students’experiences. The study utilized three self-designed scales-the Teacher Support Scale,Student Engagement Scale, and Student Learning Experience Scale-to gauge and examine the impact and relationship between perceived teacher support, student behavioral engagement, and the intermediary role of learning experiences.A cohort of 899 college students undertaking the obligatory College English course through BL modes across five Chinese universities actively participated by completing a comprehensive questionnaire. The results showed significant correlations between perceived teacher support, learning experience, and behavioral engagement.Perceived teacher support significantly predicted students’behavioral engagement, with socio-affective support exerting the most substantial predictive effects. All predictive effects were partially mediated by learning experience(learning mode, online resources, overall LMS-based learning, interaction with their instructor and peers, and learning outcome). The influence of perceived teacher support on behavioral engagement differed between students who reported the most positive(vs.negative)learning experiences.Suggestions for further research are offered for consideration.
文摘Interpreting activity is considered a high-anxiety activity due to its immediacy, multitasking, complexity of cognitive processing, and uncertainty of cognitive processing. Therefore, relying on the virtual simulation course “United Nations Kubuqi International Desert Ecological Science and Technology Innovation International Volunteer Language Service Practical Training System”, this paper adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses to investigate the interpretation anxiety level of the interpreter trainees and the factors affecting them in the VR situation to help them discover effective responses to interpreter anxiety.
文摘This paper explores the impact of industry-education integration on students’motivation in college English courses under the TPACK(Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge)framework using a comprehensive approach combining quantitative and qualitative methods.Quantitative data analysis indicates a significant positive correlation between the perception of industry-education integration and the level of student learning motivation. There is also a clear association between the perception scores of TPACK framework integration and learning motivation.Qualitative data analysis reveals students’positive experiences and recognition of the TPACK framework integration in practical application projects. The study concludes that industry-education integration and the TPACK framework play a crucial role in enhancing students’learning motivation. It suggests optimizing teaching practices through faculty training, designing practical application projects, and promoting student interaction. This comprehensive analysis provides substantial guidance for the future development of English courses.
