Attitude and willingness on gamete donation among medical students:An experience from a state university in Sri Lanka

Objective:To assess the attitude and willingness of medical students of the Faculty of Medicine,University of Jaffna,regarding gamete donation.Methods:An institutional-based descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine,University of Jaffna,from September 2022 to May 2023 among undergraduate medical students who gave their voluntary participation.A self-administered questionnaire was used as a study instrument to collect data regarding their attitude and willingness toward gamete donation.Results:A total of 345 participants were recruited and their sociodemographic data revealed that 56.8%of the participants were female,62.3%aged between 26 and 30 years,and 92.2%were unmarried.Many of them received information regarding gamete donations during their clinical appointments.Over half(67.8%)of them showed a negative attitude towards gamete donation.Regarding willingness,only 39.7%of participants had a positive approach for being a gamete donor;among them,84.7%preferred anonymous donations.Religion and ethnicity had a significant influence on their attitudes and willingness.In addition,male was also found to be more willing to donate gametes.Conclusions:Most medical students have negative views about gamete donation.Imparting awareness and knowledge of assisted reproductive technology and gamete donation within medical students'sociocultural and ethical backgrounds might facilitate a change in attitude towards gamete donation amongst future medical practitioners.

Analysis of listening strategies employed by college students of science and technology

Based upon the theoretical studies of learning strategies and listening comprehension, an investigation of listening strategies employed by college students of science and technology is conducted to find out the general features of their choices of listening strategies and to reveal the differences in the use of such strategies between effective listeners and less effective ones. The authors hope that this paper may be helpful for the teaching and learning of listening skills.

Using Technology to Improve Students' Literacy

Rapid evolution of communication technologies has changed language pedagogy and language use,and they enable new forms of discourse and new ways to create and participate in communities.Using the modern technology can reinforce and expand the ESL stu dents' s language and literacy instruction.It mainly discusses the effects of television on literacy development,and using video to enhance reading outcomes.A great number of studies provide evidence that learners can develop their language and literacy skills from technology.

Using Generative Artificial Intelligence to Support EFL Students’Writing Proficiency in University in China

This study explores the integration of Generative AI(GenAI)tools and cooperative learning strategies to enhance writing proficiency among English as a Foreign Language(EFL)students in English-medium instruction(EMI)universities in China.Employing a quasi-experimental design,the study compared writing performance between an experimental group utilizing AI tools and a control group relying solely on traditional feedback methods.Quantitative findings revealed a significant improvement in writing scores for the experimental group(t=3.45,p<.01).A one-way ANOVA further demonstrated that higher engagement levels were positively associated with superior writing performance(F=4.32,p<.05),with post-hoc analyses highlighting peer collaboration and AI-driven personalized feedback as critical factors.Qualitative insights reinforced these findings,with students valuing the immediacy and specificity of AI feedback while still preferring the personalized nature of teacher input.However,the weak correlation between overall engagement levels and writing quality(r=.084)suggests that specific engagement dimensions,such as peer interaction and collaborative activities,warrant closer examination.The study contributes to the existing literature by bridging early constructivist learning theories with AI-driven pedagogical innovations,proposing a revised framework for understanding learning in technology-enhanced environments.Implications for educators include adopting blended approaches that leverage AI tools alongside traditional methods to foster active learning and improve writing outcomes in EFL contexts.

The Social Media and Technology Addiction and Its Associated Factors among University Students in Lebanon Using the Media and Technology Usage and Attitudes Scale (MTUAS)

The contemporary developments of Information and Communication Technologies usage have fueled a popular concern. The young people are experiencing technology addiction behavior due to excessive media and technology usage. A valid instrument is required to detect individuals at high risk of social media and technology addiction. Objective: The objectives of this study are to assess prevalence of the technology addiction using the Media and Technology Usage and Attitudes Scale (MTUAS) and to investigate the impacts of online social networking on health and academic performance of young university students in Lebanon. Methods: During the academic year 2017-2018, a cross-sectional study which enrolled 705 young university students was conducted. Data was collected using MTUAS questionnaire. The translation and cultural adaptation of the MTUAS followed a standardized protocol. The psychometric properties were then evaluated. We used multivariate regression analyses to determine which characteristics were associated with the technology addiction among students. Results: 705 filled out the questionnaire aged 17 to 35 years (mean = 20.42;SD = 2.41), 74% of whom were females. The internal consistency was high for all subscales and ranged from 0.54 - 0.87. The MTUAS yielded statistically significant scores for subgroups (known group validity). Males’ students had a higher risk of addiction to social media and technology than females. The use of media was viewed common among the smokers (OR = 1.76;95% CI = 1.10 - 2.82, p = 0.02) and drinkers of alcohol (OR = 1.80;95% CI = 1.04 - 3.11, p = 0.04). Students that used e-mailing, smartphone, and TV viewing had a high academic performance level. Females and public university students had negative attitudes toward technology. In conclusion: The technology becomes a big problem on the universities students’ users that has an impact on their life and affects their academic performance. The MTUAS Arabic version has been evaluated as a valid and reliable instrument.

The COVID-19 Pandemic’s Consequences on Medical Students’ Sleep Patterns and Technology Addiction

Introduction: Sleep disorders are an important public health problem. In the case of young people, and especially students, due to both academic demands and social life, many situations can lead to sleep disturbances. Aim: To evaluate the quality of sleep in medical students and its relationships with technology addiction. Background: Current research indicates that the technology usage by the university students determined an impaired sleep quality and a shortened sleep duration. Method: One hundred eleven second-year students attending medical education were included in the study. Its dependent variable was low sleep quality and independent variables were behavioral factors, smartphone addiction, computer usage, watching TV and other questioned features. A sleep questionnaire to assess the sleep quality in medical students was provided to medical students. This study was conducted in the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Iasi, Romania. Results: The majority of medical students had shorter, irregular sleep duration and consumed energizing and stimulating drinks. Conclusions: In COVID-19 pandemic, the students’ tech addiction associated with the behavioral factors was found as risk factors for poor sleep quality.

Analysis of the Impact of the Application of New Media Technology on the Values of College Students

The widespread use of new media technology has brought changes to the technological environment of ideological and political education in colleges and universities,mainly manifested in the quantification of information dissemination,the virtualization of interpersonal relationships,and the diversification of educational platforms.These are also subtly affecting the values of contemporary college students.The positive effects are mainly manifested in the cultivation of the awareness of“network democracy”,the enhancement of the subject consciousness,and the strengthening of the sense of openness.The negative effects are mainly manifested in the disorder of value orientation,low moral sentiment,self-ification of values,and weakening of national identity.

Technology Use Takes a Boost among University Students

The speed with which the information technology has evolved is unparallel to any other technological evolution man has ever witnessed. From hospitals to classrooms, technology seems to have taken over people＇s lives. Where there have been studies to see the impact of technology in varying aspects of life, there seem to be little or no studies on the actual rate of increase in usage of e-technologies among university students and why they have become so popular. This paper uses a survey tool that captures responses from 900 students to study the rate of increase in student use of various e-technologies in and out of classrooms along with some viable reasons why students are acquiring and using such technologies and suggests ways to use this study to better understand student behavior in terms of e-cheating, and how to enhance teaching and learning environments for students.

Information Technology Career Interest on High School Students Based on Family Background

The objective of this paper is to measure word of mouth influence on IT career interest based on family background on Indonesian students. For this purpose the author used questionnaire as research instrument. Data as a value to interest, word of mouth and family background variables, was gathered from high school students in Jakarta metropolitan. Further, data was analyzed using multiple groups on Lisrel software. Result shows that there＇s difference on the influence of word of mouth on computer/IT career interest based on family background. Model relationship between word of mouth and student interest towards computer/IT is moderated by parent education and birth order.

Reform of the Course System of Network Security Theory and Technology for Foreign Students in China

Theory and technology of network security is the core course of information security major,however,it still faces many challenges in the education of foreign graduate students studying in China.This paper analyzes the status quo and existing problems in the course of theory and technology of network security for foreign graduate students studying in China,the most fundamental of which is that the existing teaching materials are difficult to meet the needs of foreign graduate students.In view of the problem,this paper discusses how to improve the existing teaching materials to adapt to the teaching needs for foreign students and puts forward some new ideas and reform measures.

Research on the Data Mining Technology in College Students'Attendance System Based on the Big Data Architecture

With the development and improvement of the information technologies,the increasing of the upper application systems and the rapid expansion of the data accumulated in the campus information environment,a typical campus big data environment has initially been formed.Because of the characteristics of the higher education,students'mobility is great and their learning environment is uncertain,so that the students'attendance mostly used the manual naming.The student attendance system based on the big data architecture is relying on the campus network,and adopting the appropriate sensors.Through the data mining technology,combined with the campus One Card solution,we can realize the management of the attendance without naming in class.It can not only strengthen the management of the students,but can also improve the management levels of the colleges and universities.

Research on the Development of Ideological and Political Education Resources for College Students Based on the Data Mining Technology

Discussion on the Role of Computer Technology in Promoting Students’ Interest in Learning

This paper conducts the discussion on the role of the computer technology in promoting students’ Interest in learning. Students’ interest in learning is constantly evolving from low to high levels, through fun, fun and interest in three stages. Quality Control at Nomophobia and Dependency to Technological

This study aims to investigate the phenomenon of technological gadget usage among pre-university students,which include the time spent using them,as well as their purpose and influence.A descriptive research design was adopted in this study.131 pre-university students were randomly selected to answer a structured questionnaire.They were informed two weeks earlier to keep track on their time spent on technological devices,before answering the questionnaire.Findings showed that 99.2%of the respondents owned at least two technological gadgets,and all respondents own a smartphone.The main two gadgets that respondents spend at least 4 h a day on are smartphones(65.6%)and computers/laptops(21.4%).This indicates that smartphones are commonly used and owned among the respondents.The majority of the respondents are moderately nomophobia and moderately dependent on smartphones(70.2%and 66.4%,respectively).Correlation analysis demonstrates that the total time spent on gadgets in a day has a significant positive correlation with gadget dependency and total number of gadgets owned.Meanwhile,logistic regression was conducted to estimate the probability of nomophobia and dependency using total time spent and total number of technological gadgets.From thefindings,it was demonstrated that when the total time spent on using technological gadgets increasing,there is greater probability that the respondents develop nomophobia and dependency.This indicates that nomophobia and dependency to technological gadgets can be used to predict lifestyle profiles.The use of technological gadgets can bring both benefit and harm to its user.In light of this,user has to remain rational in order to derive maximum benefit from it.

Impacts of Online Remote Education on the Learning Process among Nursing Students

The period of existence and spread of Corona virus has led to the use of all means of remote education as an urgent necessity for all educational facilities, especially universities. Aim: Therefore, it was necessary to study the impacts of online remote education on the learning process among nursing students through studying of two courses;health information management at 6th semester and gerontology nursing course at 4th semester. Tool of Data Collection: A modified questionnaire comprised of forty statements was used through paper-based survey and online survey. Sample: A total samples (224) of nursing students were participated in the survey who enrolled in 2019 and 2020 spring semesters. Setting: The field of study was the nursing department of Applied Medical Science at Misr University for Science and Technology. Results: Induced positive impacts of online education on the learning process for nursing students experience were proven as more than half of the students (53.9%) had prior experience on online system use, and more than two thirds (62.5%) were competent in mobile/computer applications. Almost, two thirds (59.3%) agreed about online assessment experience, except that the online exam was anxious, and the time was insufficient to answer all questions. Also, more than two thirds (64.7%) agreed about the learning process of the two nursing courses. Conclusion: The study concluded that there were positive impacts of online education system on the learning process for nursing students except that the students were not able to decide that the remote online education system can replace traditional face-to-face learning as the clinical experience was not evaluated through this study. Recommendation: This study is recommended to be repeated on a large scale of participants to assess the possibility of achieving clinical experience through online remote education if Corona virus still coexists.
