Seasonal Performance of Solar Power Plants in the Sahel Region: A Study in Senegal, West Africa

The most significa... The main objective of this study is to evaluate the seasonal performance of 20 MW solar power plants in Senegal. The analysis revealed notable seasonal variations in the performance of all stations. The most significant yields are recorded in spring, autumn and winter, with values ranging from 5 to 7.51 kWh/kWp/day for the reference yield and 4.02 to 7.58 kWh/kWp/day for the final yield. These fluctuations are associated with intense solar activity during the dry season and clear skies, indicating peak production. Conversely, minimum values are recorded during the rainy season from June to September, with a final yield of 3.86 kWh/kW/day due to dust, clouds and high temperatures. The performance ratio analysis shows seasonal dynamics throughout the year with rates ranging from 77.40% to 95.79%, reinforcing reliability and optimal utilization of installed capacity. The results of the capacity factor vary significantly, with March, April, May, and sometimes October standing out as periods of optimal performance, with 16% for Kahone, 16% for Bokhol, 18% for Malicounda and 23% for Sakal. Total losses from solar power plants show similar seasonal trends standing out for high loss levels from June to July, reaching up to 3.35 kWh/kWp/day in June. However, using solar trackers at Sakal has increased production by up to 25%, demonstrating the operational stability of this innovative technology compared with the plants fixed panel. Finally, comparing these results with international studies confirms the outstanding efficiency of Senegalese solar power plants, other installations around the world. 展开更多

There are mainly two kinds of equipment to produce synthetic diamond,namely belt press & cubic press.It has been customary in the industry to regard synthetic diamond produced by cubic press is inferior to that made by belt press.With the on-going improvement in technology,know-how & accumulated experiences, perhaps it’ s time for us to review the qualities & performances of synthetic diamond made by the cubic press more objectively.Studies were carried out on the performances of the two kinds of diamond by choosing from top brands & top qualities,with coarser mesh sizes 20/30 & 30/40.Comparisons were made on parameters, such as TI,TTI,PPC,bulk density,compact,roughness and arealight.And the diamonds chosen were used to produce the relevant diamond core drill bits and saw blades,their respective cutting performances such as cutting efficiency,segments consumption were measured and reported in this paper.The report demonstrates that producing the high quality diamond does not depend on the type of presses(Belt or Cubic) but rather on the know-how,technology and what it is made. 展开更多

By the end of 1997, totally ten 300 MW grade W-flame double arch boilers, firing anthracite or meager coal, were operating in China. These W-flame boilers were designed and supplied separately by four different manufacturers in the world, using either their own technology or foreign patent. It is shown by a recent survey that all these boilers are having a normal operation. However, there is still some room to be improved, such as boiler furnace configuration. Also, for raising the burnout rate and avoiding local slagging, furnace volume and burner layout need to be deliberated. And the tineness of pulverized coal and the air / coal ratio need to be improved. Some suggestions are made in this paper for optimizing the boiler design, Test data for the minimum stable combustion load and NOx emission are given too. 展开更多

However, traditional performance testing is not in synch with this industrial practice. Traditional performance testing techniques consider program inputs as the only external factor. It ignores the performance influence of configuration options. This study aims to stimulate research interest in performance testing in the context of configurable software systems by answering three research questions. That is, why it is necessary to conduct research in performance testing, what are the state-of-the-art techniques, and how do we conduct performance testing research in configurable software systems. In this study, we examine the unique characteristics and challenges of performance testing research in configurable software systems. We review and discuss research topics on the performance bug study, performance anti-patterns, program analysis, and performance testing. We share the research findings from the empirical study and outline the opening opportunities for new and advanced researchers to contribute to the research community. 展开更多

A transonic cascade wind tunnel test facility has been built for this purpose in the Department of Aeronautics, University of Tokyo. The system and operation of this facility will be explained in detail. The tunnel is of blowdown type, and can be run repeatedly at a short interval. Following a few preliminary remarks on the tunneling methods at the beginning of the 20th century, thesuccessful applications of the full-face method also in difficult conditions are underlined. The attention isposed on the use of a systematic reinforcement of the face and of the ground, by means of fiber-glasselements. A selection of tunnels where this method was used successfully is reported with the purposeof illustrating the wide spectrum of ground conditions where it has been applied. Then, following adescription of the main concepts behind the method, the attention moves from the so-called “heavymethod”, where deformations are restrained, to the “light method”, where deformations are allowedwith the intention to decrease the stresses acting on the primary and final linings. The progress in theapplication of the “light method” is underlined, up to the development of a novel technique, which relieson the use of a yielding support composed of top head steel sets with sliding joints and specialdeformable elements inserted in the primary lining. The well-known case study of the Saint Martin LaPorte access adit, along the Lyon-Turin Base Tunnel, is described. In this tunnel, a yield-control supportsystem combined with full-face excavation has been adopted successfully in order to cope with the largedeformations experienced during face advance through the Carboniferous formation. The monitoringresults obtained during excavation are illustrated, together with the modeling studies performed whenpaying attention to the rock mass time-dependent behavior. 展开更多
