In this paper,a series of major policy decisions used to improve the power grid reliability,reduce the risk and losses of major power outages,and realize the modernization of 21st century power grid are discussed. The...In this paper,a series of major policy decisions used to improve the power grid reliability,reduce the risk and losses of major power outages,and realize the modernization of 21st century power grid are discussed. These decisions were adopted by American government and would also be helpful for the strategic development of Chinese power grid. It is proposed that China should take precaution,carry out security research on the overall dynamic behaviour characteristics of the UHV grid using the complexity theory,and finally provide safeguard for the Chinese UHV grid. It is also pointed out that,due to the lack of matured approaches to controll a cascading failure,the primary duty of a system operator is to work as a "watchdog" for the grid operation security,eliminate the cumulative effect and reduce the risk and losses of major cascading outages with the help of EMS and WAMS.展开更多

The experiences and lessons of implementation of these price policies are analyzed. It is concluded that reasonable price policy is quite effective for promoting re- newable power development. Study of peak power demand and energy consumed by each traction substation needs to be deter- mine...Multi-train modeling and simulation plays a vital role in railway electrification during operation and planning phase. Study of peak power demand and energy consumed by each traction substation needs to be deter- mined to verify that electrical energy flowing in its railway power feeding system is appropriate or not. Gauss-Seidel, conventional Newton-Raphson, and current injection methods are well-known and widely accepted as a tool for electrical power network solver in DC railway power supply study. In this paper, a simplified Newton-Raphson method has been proposed. The proposed method employs a set of current-balance equations at each electrical node instead of the conventional power-balance equation used in the conventional Newton-Raphson method. This concept can remarkably reduce execution time and computing complexity for multi-train simulation. To evaluate its use, Sukhumvit line of Bangkok transit system (BTS) of Thai- land with 21.6-km line length and 22 passenger stopping stations is set as a test system. The multi-train simulation integrated with the proposed power network solver is developed to simulate 1-h operation service of selected 5-min headway. From the obtained results, the proposed method is more efficient with approximately 18 % faster than the conventional Newton-Raphson method and just over 6 % faster than the current injection method.展开更多

The recent case of Leshan Power shows that under thelegal framework and share structure which currently exists in China, there is very narrowscope for independent directors to carry out their function. After discussing the main obstaclesto implementation of independent directorship of Chinas listed companies, the authorpoints out several measures that must be taken in order to enhance the effectiveness ofboards of directors. Finally this paper concludes that without the necessary conditions forindependent directors to actually have a functioning role to play, invitation of independentdirectors by listed companies will be a matter of form only.展开更多

The Laplace distribution can be compared against the normal distribution.The Laplace distribution has an unusual,symmetric shape with a sharp peak and tailsthat are longer than the tails of a normal distribution.It ha...The Laplace distribution can be compared against the normal distribution.The Laplace distribution has an unusual,symmetric shape with a sharp peak and tailsthat are longer than the tails of a normal distribution.It has recently become quitepopular in modeling financial variables(Brownian Laplace motion)like stock returnsbecause of the greater tails.The Laplace distribution is very extensively reviewed in themonograph(Kotz et al.in the laplace distribution and generalizations-a revisit withapplications to communications,economics,engineering,and finance.Birkhauser,Boston,2001).In this article,we propose a density-based empirical likelihood ratio(DBELR)goodness-of-fit test statistic for the Laplace distribution.The test statisticis constructed based on the approach proposed by Vexler and Gurevich(Comput StatData Anal 54:531-545,2010).In order to compute the test statistic,parameters of theLaplace distribution are estimated by the maximum likelihood method.Critical valuesand power values of the proposed test are obtained by Monte Carlo simulations.Also,power comparisons of the proposed test with some known competing tests are carriedout.Finally,two illustrative examples are presented and analyzed.展开更多
