Objective: To observe the therapeutic effect of combined traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy with acupoint injection and herbal patch application on patients with ovulatory dysfunction associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods: A total of 80 PCOS patients who received treatment at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine between October 2022 and March 2024 were enrolled in this study. They were randomly divided into a control group (n = 40) and an observation group (n = 40). The control group received conventional Western medical treatments, while the observation group was administered TCM combined with acupoint injection and herbal patch application. Pre- and post-treatment conditions were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, the overall effective rate was significantly higher in the observation group compared to the control group (P 0.05). Following treatment, both ovulation and pregnancy rates increased in both groups, but the increase was more evident in the observation group, showing a statistically significant difference (P < 0.01). Conclusion: For patients with oligoovulation or anovulation due to PCOS, the combined use of TCM, acupoint injection, and herbal patch application appears to be effective in improving systemic symptoms and achieving notable clinical outcomes. 展开更多

BACKGROUND: Han's acupoint nerve stimulator (HANS) has been frequently used to relieve pain by promoting the central nerve system's release of endogenous opioid peptides through electric stimulation to the body surface. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the pain-relieving effects of HANS, combined with patient-controlled analgesia, following neurosurgery, and to observe adverse reactions and effects. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized control observation was performed at the Department of Neurology in the First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical College (Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, China) from January 2005 to February 2006. PARTICIPANTS: Forty patients, who were selected for craniotomy and required pain relief following surgery at the Department of Neurology in the First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical College (China), were included in this study. METHODS: Forty patients underwent neurosurgery and were randomly divided into two groups: patient-controlled analgesia plus HANS (+HANS, n = 20) and patient-controlled analgesia (-HANS, n = 20). Both groups were well matched in baseline data. Automatic syringe infusion pump ZZB-150 was the product of Nantong Aipeng Medical Instruments Co., Ltd. (China). Patient-controlled analgesia consisted of 100 mL 0.02% lappaconitine/0.02% metoclopramide. LH-402 HANS instrument was produced in Beijing (China), with a serial number of 402183. The HANS instrumentation was used to stimulate the Hegu-Laogong acupoint on one side and Jiaogan, Shenmen penetrating Shen, Waifei, Naogan penetrating Pizhixia ear acupoints on the affected side for one hour, with 2-hour intervals. The disperse-dense wave was alternating, with a 2/100 Hz frequency of electrical stimulation. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: The scores of visual analogue scale and incidence of adverse reaction were observed in two groups following surgery. RESULTS: Compared with the HANS group, the visual analogue scale scores were remarkably lower in the +HANS group six hours after surgery (P 〈 0.01), and the incidence rate of adverse reactions, such as nausea and vomiting, was also decreased (P 〈 0.05).CONCLUSION: The application of HANS to induce body surface stimulation can enhance the effect of pain relief and reduce adverse reactions when used in combination with patient-controlled analgesia following neurosurgery. The effect of combined therapy is superior to patient-controlled analgesia alone. 展开更多

Solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs)have attracted a great deal of interest because they have the highest efficiency without using any noble metal as catalysts among all the fuel cell technologies. However, traditional SOFCs suffer from having a higher volume, current leakage, complex connections, and difficulty in gas sealing. To solve these problems,Rolls-Royce has fabricated a simple design by stacking cells in series on an insulating porous support, resulting in the tubular segmented-in-series solid oxide fuel cells(SIS-SOFCs),which achieved higher output voltage. This work systematically reviews recent advances in the structures, preparation methods,perform-ances,and stability of tubular SIS-SOFCs in experimental and numerical studies. Finally, the challenges and future development of tubular SIS-SOFCs are also discussed. The findings of this work can help guide the direction and inspire innovation of future development in this field. 展开更多

Functional brain imaging studies of the specificity of acupoint stimulation have revealed that needling at particular acupoints can induce activation of corresponding brain areas, examined in physiological and pathological states. The present study examined Waiguan (SJ 5) as the acupoint of interest. We tested five conditions: a true needling at true acupoint group, a sham needling at true acupoint group, a true needling at sham acupoint group, a sham needling at sham acupoint group, and a healthy control group. We examined changes in glucose metabolism in different functional cortical regions to determine the specific brain activation elicited by acupuncture at Waiguan. The results revealed that true and sham acupuncture at the same acupoint activated different brain regions. In addition, applying acupuncture at a genuine acupoint and a neighboring sham acupoint activated different brain regions. These findings suggest that acupuncture at Waiguan causes activation in some brain regions. 展开更多

[Objectives]To study the clinical effect of Acupoint Application of Jiezi Fangxiao Ointment combined with Pingchuan Prescription in the treatment of pediatric asthma.[Methods]A total of 40 children with asthma admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine from July 2017 to September 2018 were selected as the research subjects, and divided into control group and observation group according to random classification method, with 20 cases in each group.Among which the control group was given routine symptomatic treatment, the observation group was treated with Acupoint Application of Jiezi Fangxiao Ointment combined with Pingchuan Prescription on the basis of the control group. After 4 weeks of continuous treatment, the clinical efficacy was observed and the changes of traditional Chinese medicine symptom scores, forced expiratory volume in the first second(FEV1),maximum expiratory flow(PEF),forced vital capacity(FVC),peripheral blood eosinophils(EOS)and interleukin-17(IL-17)were compared between the two groups before and after treatment.[Results]After treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)scores such as asthma, cough, expectoration, chest tightness, dyspnea and wheezing sound of lungs in the two groups were significantly improved, and the improvement in the observation group was superior to that in the control group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).FEV1,PEF and FVC in the two groups were significantly improved after treatment, and the improvement in the observation group was superior to that in the control group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);after treatment, the levels of EOS and IL-17 decreased in both groups, and the improvement in the observation group was superior to that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).[Conclusions]The clinical effects of Acupoint Application of Jiezi Fangxiao Ointment combined with Pingchuan Prescription in the treatment of infantile asthma were obvious, which can significantly improve the TCM symptoms scores, pulmonary function and immune function of patients. 展开更多

Background:Obesity,as an epidemic public health issue in the world today, not only brings a heavy medical burden to society but also seriously affects people’s quality of life.In the context of new evidence for the efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding(ACE)in abdominal obesity(AO),it is necessary to elucidate the mechanism of ACE for AO.The intestinal flora is closely associated with obesity, and the study of its intestinal flora may provide evidence to clarify the mechanism of obesity treatment by ACE.Methods:75 participants will be recruited in this study, including 60 eligible female patients diagnosed with AO and 15 healthy female participants.60 female AO patients will be randomized to ACE group, sham ACE group, and waiting list(WL)group in a ratio of 1:1:1.Patients in two ACE groups will receive one ACE treatment per week for 12 consecutive weeks, and in the WL group will not receive any treatment;only their data will be extracted. The primary outcome is the mean change in body mass index.Secondary effects include waist circumference, body weight, the visual analog score of appetite, and the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale.High-throughput 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid gene sequencing will be used to detect intestinal flora in each group before and after the intervention. Conclusion:The results of this trial are expected to identify the critical intestinal flora causing AO and the target intestinal flora of AO regulated by ACE,providing further theoretical support for ACE in the clinical treatment of obesity. 展开更多

Aim: To observe the therapeutic effect of acupoint catgut embedding in the treatment of epilepsy rats. Methods: 40 Wistar rats were randomly and evenly divided into normal control, model, medication (Natrii Valproas syrup), and catgut embedding groups. Epilepsy model was established by intraperitoneal injection of sodium penicillin (0.4 mu/100 g), twice every week, continuously for 4 weeks. Electroencephalograph (EEG) was used as the index for assessing the effect of catgut embedding on epilepsy. Results: In epilepsy rats of model group, the amplitude and frequency of EEG increased significantly in comparison with control group (P<0.05). While the amplitude and frequency of EEG of catgut embedding group and medication group were all significantly lower than those of model group (P<0.05, 0.01). The frequency of EEG of catgut embedding group was significantly lower than that of medication group (P<0.05). These findings show that both acupoint catgut embedding and medication can apparently improve epileptic electrical activities of the brain in the rat, and the effect of catgut embedding is better than that of medication in lowering the frequency of EEG. 展开更多
