Novel Machine Learning–Based Approach for Arabic Text Classification Using Stylistic and Semantic Features

Text classification is an essential task for many applications related to the Natural Language Processing domain.It can be applied in many fields,such as Information Retrieval,Knowledge Extraction,and Knowledge modeling.Even though the importance of this task,Arabic Text Classification tools still suffer from many problems and remain incapable of responding to the increasing volume of Arabic content that circulates on the web or resides in large databases.This paper introduces a novel machine learning-based approach that exclusively uses hybrid(stylistic and semantic)features.First,we clean the Arabic documents and translate them to English using translation tools.Consequently,the semantic features are automatically extracted from the translated documents using an existing database of English topics.Besides,the model automatically extracts from the textual content a set of stylistic features such as word and character frequencies and punctuation.Therefore,we obtain 3 types of features:semantic,stylistic and hybrid.Using each time,a different type of feature,we performed an in-depth comparison study of nine well-known Machine Learning models to evaluate our approach and used a standard Arabic corpus.The obtained results show that Neural Network outperforms other models and provides good performances using hybrid features(F1-score=0.88%).

在中国古代文体论中,“文体”范畴的基本内涵是指具有特征性的文章整体;而在西方stylistics中,style的基本内涵是指具有特征性的语言表达方式。“文体”与style尽管具有一定程度的异语对应性,但仍然是无法等同的两个异质范畴:从具体层面看是文章整体与语言表达方式的区别,从本体层面看有生命整体观与工具(语言)本体观的不同。差异的揭示有助于准确把握中国古代文体论的独特品质。

Stylistic Analysis of the Poem 40-Love

40-Love is a short love poem with typical stylistic features,which are analyzed at four levels in this study:graphic level,lexical level,grammatical/syntactic level,and semantic level,to show how stylistic features strengthen the expressing impact of a poem.Based on the analysis,the poem can be called a real masterpiece in expressing meaning with simple and artful writing style.

The Application of Stylistics on College English Teaching

Stylistics is the description and analysis of the variability of linguistic forms in actual language use. The concepts of 'style' and 'stylistic variation' in language rest on the general assumption that within the language system, the same content can be encoded in more than one linguistic form. Operating at all linguistic levels (e.g.lexicology,syntax, text linguistics, and intonation), stylisticians analyze both the style of specific texts and stylistic variation across texts. Public address is one of the study fields in the research of stylistics. For those public addresses made by most internationally influential characters, most of the public addresses are regarded as the literature classics and optimal resources for English learners as well. Translation of Lexical Stylistic Devices from English to Chinese in Commercial Advertisements

With rapid development of China,a growing number of foreign products are entering the Chinese market.An excellent translation of a product’s advertisement from English to Chinese undoubtedly contributes to its successful promotion in the Chinese market.Although the translation practice contains multiple difficulties,the translation of lexical stylistic devices is a big challenge for translators.It is not simply because lexical stylistic devices are diverse and various in form,but also because most devices involve linguistic and cultural differences between English and Chinese.This thesis analyzed a number of current English to Chinese translations of the devices in commercial advertisements,which mainly come from two translation scholars’works and official websites of world-known brands.By analyzing the selected data,seven translation strategies are found to be the major translation strategies in this respect,namely literal translation,free translation,flexible translation,extended translation,adaptation translation,compensation translation and amplification translation strategies.Moreover,a number of linguistic and cultural issues which need to be considered by translators are also illustrated here.
