Loan Strategies to Small and Medium Size Enterprises:An Analysis of Determining Factors of“Subsidiary Banks”in the Cameroonian Context

This paper proposes to present an overview of determining factors of the granting of loan to Small and Medium Size Enterprises(SMSE)by the subsidiaries of multinational banks in Cameroon.The analysis of the data collected following interviews with banking employees conducted in accordance with the method of thematic content analysis reveals that two categories of factors play a major role in the decision of the banker:parameters relating to the characteristics of the SMSE applying for a loan and elements specific to the context of study.The combination of these factors contributes to the reinforcement of the already transactional attitude of these subsidiary banks in the area of experimentation of the study.

A Modified Lagrange Method for Solving Convex Quadratic Optimization Problems

In this paper, a modified version of the Classical Lagrange Multiplier method is developed for convex quadratic optimization problems. The method, which is evolved from the first order derivative test for optimality of the Lagrangian function with respect to the primary variables of the problem, decomposes the solution process into two independent ones, in which the primary variables are solved for independently, and then the secondary variables, which are the Lagrange multipliers, are solved for, afterward. This is an innovation that leads to solving independently two simpler systems of equations involving the primary variables only, on one hand, and the secondary ones on the other. Solutions obtained for small sized problems (as preliminary test of the method) demonstrate that the new method is generally effective in producing the required solutions.

Out-of-sync in managerial attention:Temporal and repertory mismatches between the headquarters and subsidiary

We advance the attention-based view by presenting empirical evidence that the attention of headquarters and subsidiary managers in a multi-business organization is,at times,out of sync.Based on empirical material that allows us to differentiate between what is attended to and what is ignored by management,we analyze the focus of managerial attention,environmental and subsidiary stimuli,and actions taken in the decision-making process over 15 years,during a period of strategic transformation.We suggest that attentional mismatches occur not only between strategic issues but also between what are considered relevant responses or actions to be taken at any particular time.We analyze the origins of the attentional mismatches and explore ways to avoid such nonalignment in strategic decision making.
