The translator, as the receiver of the source text and m the meantime the producer of the target text, is sure to leave his/her voice traceable in the translated texts throughout the whole translating process. This paper aims to present an overview of the conceptual development of the translator's voice in translation studies from different perspectives like narratology, stylistics, socio-narrative theory, speech-act theory etc.展开更多

In this paper, the style and characteristics of singing Zhuang ethnic minority's Liao songs with male's two-part voice in Guangxi are mainly introduced through an analysis of vocal music and the study on the performance forms, singing language characteristics, and vocal music and resonance is mainly included, and also the important significance of singing Zhuang ethnic minority's Liao songs with male's two-part voice is discussed. Also, it is compared with the modern Chinese folk singing styles.展开更多

It is very crucial to identify the culprit behind it, keeping in mind all the various differentials. We re-port a case of a 35-year-old woman presenting with complaint of hoarseness of voice. Upon car-diac evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve, with severe aortic stenosis and dilation of ascending aorta. We suspected that the plausible reason for hoarseness of voice was compression of recurrent laryngeal nerve due to dilation of aorta, i.e., Ortner’s syndrome. But to our surprise, CT of aorta and neck revealed extensive elongated cervical vagus nerve schwannoma. Such type of association is unique and new to voluminous medical literature.展开更多

Xi Jinping's thought on building a community with a shared future for mankind is deeply rooted in the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and is the "Chinese diagnosis" made, and "Chinese plans" proposed, for world problems. It provides the realistic possibility to advocate for and construct a community with a shared future for mankind for development, peace and security of the world and global governance. We should adhere to the principles of step-bystep implementation, equality and mutual assistance, respect for differences, eco-friendly development and inclusiveness, to achieve a community with a shared future for mankind.展开更多
For years, personal and social voices have been the issue of discussion on voice construction in written discourse(e.g., Elbow, 1999;Flowerdew, 2011;Hyland, 2002, 2010 a, 2012 b;Mauranen, 2013;Ramanathan & Atkinso...For years, personal and social voices have been the issue of discussion on voice construction in written discourse(e.g., Elbow, 1999;Flowerdew, 2011;Hyland, 2002, 2010 a, 2012 b;Mauranen, 2013;Ramanathan & Atkinson, 1999;Tardy, 2005). However, there is a lack of an integrated examination of the dimensions which determine voice construction in writing from personal and social perspectives. This article re-examines the issue of voice construction through a critical review of previous literature on identity in written discourse. It is argued that there are five major dimensions for the construction of voice in written discourse. How writers appropriate their voice according to such five dimensions as genre, transition, culture, discipline and audience will be discussed. This paper lends further support to the view that voice in written discourse is both personal and social. As it is known, good writing expresses both personal and social voices. However, based on the dominant dimension(s), voice construction should be adjusted. Sometimes personal voice is boldly expressed;sometimes social voice is;and some other times the boundary between the two is unnoticeable. The study provides an integrated framework as well as pedagogical implications for the teaching of academic writing within L1 and L2 contexts.展开更多

From a long-term perspective, the stagnation in the Western world raises questions about Asia’s future. So what are the biggest challenges facing Asia in response to the crisis? How can the region seek a return to fast-track growth? Fidel Valdez Ramos, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Boao Forum for Asia and former President of Philippines, discussed these issues during the forum’s annual conference on April 17-19 in Hainan Province. But even with noticeable improvements being made, Asian nations still face the challenge of moving away from a dependence on exports and maintaining growth momentum. These issues were hot topics at this year’s Boao Forum for Asia, with Asia’s green recovery as its theme. More than 2,000 economists and businesspeople from home and abroad attended the forum held in Boao of south China’s Hainan Province from April 9 to 11. Edited excerpts follow:展开更多
