Application of response surface method for contact fatigue reliability analysis of spur gear with consideration of EHL 被引量:2

In order to consider the effects of elastohydrodynamic lubrication(EHL) on contact fatigue reliability of spur gear, an accurate and efficient method that combines with response surface method(RSM) and first order second moment method(FOSM) was developed for estimating the contact fatigue reliability of spur gear under EHL. The mechanical model of contact stress analysis of spur gear under EHL was established, in which the oil film pressure was mapped into hertz contact zone. Considering the randomness of EHL, material properties and fatigue strength correction factors, the proposed method was used to analyze the contact fatigue reliability of spur gear under EHL. Compared with the results of 1.5×105 by traditional Monte-Carlo, the difference between the two failure probability results calculated by the above mentioned methods is 2.2×10-4, the relative error of the failure probability results is 26.8%, and time-consuming only accounts for 0.14% of the traditional Monte-Carlo method(MCM). Sensitivity analysis results are in very good agreement with practical cognition. Analysis results show that the proposed method is precise and efficient, and could correctly reflect the influence of EHL on contact fatigue reliability of spur gear. 展开更多

Gears play an important role in virtual manufacturing systems for digital twins;however,the image of gear tooth defects is difficult to acquire owing to its non-convex shape.In this study,a deep learning network is proposed to detect gear defects based on their point cloud representation.This approach mainly consists of three steps:(1)Various types of gear defects are classified into four cases(fracture,pitting,glue,and wear);A 3D gear dataset was constructed with 10000 instances following the aforementioned classification.(2)Gear-PCNet++introduces a novel Combinational Convolution Block,proposed based on the gear dataset for gear defect detection to effectively extract the local gear information and identify its complex topology;(3)Compared with other methods,experiments show that this method can achieve better recognition results for gear defects with higher efficiency and practicability. 展开更多

A quasi-static wear model for helical gears is proposed based on finite element method and Archard's formula to investigate the wear characteristics of tooth surface in real operation conditions. The numerical simulation reveals that the wear depth distributes unevenly along the tooth lead and varies along the tooth profile. The surface wear depth claims its minimal value at the pitch circle and reaches its maximal value near the tooth root of the pinion. The effects of misalignment on wear depth are further investigated to provide useful information for gear designers. The numerical simulation reveals that the vertical misalignment is more influential than the parallel misalignment on the gear wear depth. Therefore, to eliminate the negative effects of misalignment, the misalignment should be strictly controlled. 展开更多

The present work focuses on the performance of nanofluids called CN46-NanoAl2O3.80 formulated by using dispersions of nano aluminum oxide (Al2O3) in the ISO VG46 industrial oil on machining performance during gear hobbing of AISI 4118 steel. In machining gears, hobbing is one of the most important processes, especially to produce various gear shapes for adapting to diverse applications. However, the demand for high quality brings attention to product quality, particularly the roughness of the machined gear surface because of its effect on product appearance, function, and reliability. For additional improvement, applying nanofluids may produce superior product quality, as the rolling action of billions of nanoparticle units in the tool chip interface can significantly decrease the friction led to reduce the cutting forces. In addition, the characteristics of heat transfer of nanoparticles can contribute to reduce tool wear. In this experimental study, the performance of nanolubricant compared with the case of using ordinary cutting-fluid systems in the existing production line is investigated. The experimental results reveal that the tool life of the hob is significantly enhanced of 55.2%, gear surface roughness is smaller (27.3%), and gear accuracy is significantly increased by using the nanofluid. This result, therefore, shows a promising solution to achieve the engineering-economy effectiveness in gear machining. 展开更多

A digital model is presented for the purpose of design, manufacture and measurement of hypoid gear, based on the non-uniform rational B-spline surface (NURBS) method. The digital model and the function-oriented active design technique are combined to form a new design method for hypoid gears. The method is well adaptable to CNC bevel gear cutting machines and CNC-controlled gear inspection machines, and can be used to create the initial machine tool cutting location data or program measurement path. Russian school of the theory and geometry of gearing: Its origin and golden period (1935-1975)

During the second half of the twentieth century, Soviet scientists were among the world leaders in the theory and geometry of gearing or the theoretical fundamentals of designing gears and gear-cutting tools. The authors of the current paper review works related to the development of the theory of gearing (TG) written in Russian from the mid-1930s to the present. Overall, the review covers more than 400 publications of nearly 200 authors (among more than 1000 studied works). This review involves some works on gear strength and accuracy to attract more experts. This paper presents a short list of works from the seventeenth century to the nineteenth century and discusses the basic concepts of the TG. This paper also includes a review of more than 160 papers in Russian for the period of 1935-1975, which is the "golden age" of the TG. The main features and achievements during this period are also considered. The distinctive feature of this review is the use of diagrams that visually present TG experts and the dates and themes of their published works. The diagrams also show the following aspects: 1) The most popular and important themes in a specific period, 2) the most important publications on the themes of interest to readers, and 3) the direction of the works and scope of interests of every researcher. 展开更多
