Precisely estimating the hydraulic roughness coefficient is important to understanding mechanisms of overland flow. Four tillage practices, including cropland raking, artificial hoeing, artificial digging, and straight slopes, were considered based on the local agricultural conditions to simulate different values of soil surface roughness in the Loess Plateau. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between the soil surface roughness and hydraulic roughness coefficient on sloping farmland using artificial rainfall simulation. The effects of surface roughness on the surface lubrication performance of the steel sheets were examined using a friction coefficient tester. Results revealed large dynamic friction coefficients for the galvanized steel sheets, which increased remarkably with surface roughness. Once the self-lubricated coating was applied, significant drops in the dynamic friction coefficients were measured. After the first stage of the friction test, the coefficients were almost unchanged, which reflected a weak dependence on the surface roughness of the self-lubricated steel sheets. However, the dynamic friction coefficients gradually increased as the test progressed, where these increase clearly correlated with the surface roughness of the self-lubricated steel sheets.展开更多

Experiments have been conducted using L27 (34) orthogonal array and each experiment was repeated three times and each test used a new cutting tool, High Speed Steel (HSS), to ensure accurate readings of the surface roughness. The statistical methods of Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio and the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were applied to investigate effects of cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut on surface roughness under different cutting fluids. Minitab 14 software was used to analyze the effect of variables on the surface roughness. Results obtained indicated that optimal variables for the minimum surface roughness were cutting speed of 35 m/min (level 2), feed of 0.124 mm/rev (level 1), depth of cut of 0.3 mm (level 1) and a cutting fluid with a viscosity of 2.898 mm2/s (level 3). Hence, the optimal parameters to obtain better surface roughness of the workpiece material were obtained when groundnut oil based cutting fluid was used. Analysis of variance shows that feed rate has the most significant effect on surface roughness.展开更多

Methods: Forty specimens, each of PMMA, Valplast, DuraFlex, Dura Cetal were fabricated and finished according to individual manufactures’ instructions. These materials were adjusted with tungsten carbide (TC) burs to mimic gross adjustments, and then re-polished either on a lathe or bonded silicon carbide (B-SC). Following instrumentation, the specimens were assessed using contact profilometry and scanning electron microscopy. Two-factor ANOVA was used to determine significant differences in mean surface roughness (Ra and Rmax), with included factors being material type and re-polishing regimen. Results: Mean Ra values ranged from 0.26 (DuraFlex control) to 1.82 (Valplast adjusted with TC burs). Mean Rmax values ranged from 1.88 (Dura Flex control) to 13.76 (Valplast adjusted with TC burs). Two-factor ANOVA revealed that interaction of both factors was significant (p Ra and Rmax. There was a statistically significant increase in both Ra (p Rmax (p < 0.05) for all material types following the gross adjustment. With the exception of DuraFlex, re-polishing of samples that were previously adjusted with TC burs, on the dental lathe produced surfaces that were comparable to control samples. Conclusion: Adjustment of DuraFlex should be kept to a minimum since the adjustment produced the significant surface detriment that could not be corrected with either of the polishing regimens.展开更多

Microstructure, micro-hardness, adhesion strength and cross-sectional morphology of the obtained multilayer coatings were investigated. The results show that the Vickers hardness of Ti/TiN/Zr/ZrN multilayer coating, with a film thickness of 11.37 μm, is 29.36 GPa. The erosion and salt spray resistance performance of Cr_17Ni_2 steel substrates can be evidently improved by Ti/TiN/Zr/ZrN multilayer coating. The surface roughness of Cr_17Ni_2 steel substrates plays an important role in determining the mechanical and erosion performances of Ti/TiN/Zr/ZrN multilayer coatings. 文摘In this context,we experimentally studied the anisotropic mechanical behaviors of rough-walled plaster joints using a servo-controlled direct shear apparatus under both constant normal load(CNL)and constant normal stiffness(CNS)conditions. The shear-induced variations in the normal displacement, shear stress, normal stress and sheared-off asperity mass are analyzed and correlated with the inclination angle of the critical waviness of joint surfaces. The results show that CNS condition gives rise to a smaller normal displacement due to the larger normal stress during shearing, compared with CNL condition.Under CNL conditions, there is one peak shear stress during shearing, whereas there are no peak shear stress for some cases and two peaks for other cases under CNS conditions depending on the geometry of joint surfaces. The inclination angle of the critical waviness has been verified to be capable of describing the joint surface roughness and anisotropy. The joint surface is more significantly damaged under CNS conditions than that under CNL conditions. With increment of the inclination angle of the critical waviness, both the normal displaceme nt and shea red-off asperity mass increase, following power law functions;yet the coefficient of deternination under CNL conditions is larger than that under CNS conditions. This is because the CNS condition significantly decreases the inclination angle of the critical waviness during shearing due to the larger degree of asperity degradation.

文摘It is difficult to construct the prediction model for titanium alloy through analyzing the formation mechanism of surface roughness due to the complicated relation between influential factors and surface roughness.A novel algorithm based on the modified particle swarm optimization ( PSO ) least square support vector machine ( LSSVM ) is proposed to predict the roughness of the end milling titanium alloys.According to Taguchi method and features in milling titanium alloys , the influences of cutting speed , feed rate and axial depth of cut on surface roughness are investigated with the analysis of variance ( ANOVA ) of the experimental data. The research results show that the construction speed of the modified PSO LS-SVM model is two orders of magnitude faster than that of back propagation ( BP ) model. Moreover , the prediction accuracy is about one order of magnitude higher than that of BP model. The modified PSO LS-SVM prediction model can explain the influences of cutting speed , feed rate and axial depth of cut on the surface roughness of titanium alloys.Either a higher cutting speed , a lower feed rate or a smaller axial depth of cut can lead to the decrease of surface roughness.
文摘Four kinds of galvanized steel sheets having different surface roughness values were used to prepare the steel sheets with a self-lubricated coating. However, the dynamic friction coefficients gradually increased as the test progressed, where these increase clearly correlated with the surface roughness of the self-lubricated steel sheets.
文摘Taking bump-type gas foil bearings as the research object,a deformation model of bump foil and a thin-plate finite element model of top foil were proposed.By solving Reynolds equation and energy equation, the pressure distribution and the temperature distribution of gas films in foil bearings were obtained.Further,a numerical method for calculating the lubrication performance of gas foil bearings with considering the surface roughness was proposed. With a specific example, effects of the surface roughness on the bearing lubrication performance were parametrically studied. The results indicate that rougher journal surface can lead to larger fluctuation of the lubrication performance, while surface roughness of top foil has few effects on the fluctuation. Moreover, the mean values of performance parameters almost remain constant at different values of surface roughness.
文摘Taguchi method has been employed to investigate the effects of cutting fluids on surface roughness in turning AISI 1330 alloy steel, using manually operated lathe machine. Analysis of variance shows that feed rate has the most significant effect on surface roughness.
文摘The influence of surface roughness on the performance of zinc rich paint(ZRP) coatings was studied. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) measurements were used to assess the corrosion prevention performance of the ZRP coatings. Furthermore, the EIS data of the steel ZRP sea water system were interpreted according to equivalent circuit models and the corresponding parameters were derived to assess the coating deterioration with time. The results show that the rougher surface favors better protection effect of the ZRP coatings. The protection potential of ZRP coatings for the standards and codes of practice is -0.78 V(vs SCE).
文摘Purpose: This study assessed the roughness of two injection-molded, thermoplastic materials used for denture bases compared with a polyamide material and compression molded Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) after the adjustment and re-polishing with either a laboratory protocol or a chair side protocol. Conclusion: Adjustment of DuraFlex should be kept to a minimum since the adjustment produced the significant surface detriment that could not be corrected with either of the polishing regimens.

文摘Ti/TiN/Zr/ZrN multilayer coatings were deposited on Cr_17Ni_2 steel substrates with different surface roughnesses by vacuum cathodic arc deposition method. Overall, a low value of the surface roughness of substrates corresponds to an improved performance of erosion and salt spray resistance of multilayer coatings. The optimized performance of Ti/TiN/Zr/ZrN multilayer coatings can be achieved provided that the surface roughness of Cr_17Ni_2 steel substrates is lower than 0.4μm.

文摘In the present work, samples of Al-Si-Cu piston alloy after T6 heat treatment were exposed for 2 h at temperatures ranging from 400 to 550°C.The evolution of surface roughness and microstructure of the alloy during thermal exposure was studied by combination methods of roughness profiles, optical and scanning electron microscopy as well as XRD analysis. It is found that the roughness and mass of the alloy increase with the raise of the thermal exposure temperature, and the increasing rates of them are slow as the exposure temperature is below 500°C,but accelerates abruptly when the temperature is higher than 500°C.The variation of surface roughness of the alloy is closely related to phase transformation and oxidation during the thermal exposure.
