We propose a novel symplectic finite element method to solve the structural dynamic responses of linear elastic systems.For the dynamic responses of continuous medium structures,the traditional numerical algorithm is the dissipative algorithm and cannot maintain long-term energy conservation.Thus,a symplectic finite element method with energy conservation is constructed in this paper.A linear elastic system can be discretized into multiple elements,and a Hamiltonian system of each element can be constructed.The single element is discretized by the Galerkin method,and then the Hamiltonian system is constructed into the Birkhoffian system.Finally,all the elements are combined to obtain the vibration equation of the continuous system and solved by the symplectic difference scheme.Through the numerical experiments of the vibration response of the Bernoulli-Euler beam and composite plate,it is found that the vibration response solution and energy obtained with the algorithm are superior to those of the Runge-Kutta algorithm.The results show that the symplectic finite element method can keep energy conservation for a long time and has higher stability in solving the dynamic responses of linear elastic systems. 展开更多

In this paper, a classical system of ordinary differential equations is built to describe a kind of n-dimensional quantum systems. The absorption spectrum and the density of the states for the system are defined from the points of quantum view and classical view. From the Birkhoffian form of the equations, a Birkhoffian symplectic scheme is derived for solving n-dimensional equations by using the generating function method. Besides the Birkhoffian structure- preserving, the new scheme is proven to preserve the discrete local energy conservation law of the system with zero vector f . Some numerical experiments for a 3-dimensional example show that the new scheme can simulate the general Birkhoffian system better than the implicit midpoint scheme, which is well known to be symplectic scheme for Hamiltonian system. 展开更多

The method of splitting a plane-wave finite-difference time-domain (SP-FDTD) algorithm is presented for the initiation of plane-wave source in the total-field / scattered-field (TF/SF) formulation of high-order symplectic finite- difference time-domain (SFDTD) scheme for the first time. By splitting the fields on one-dimensional grid and using the nature of numerical plane-wave in finite-difference time-domain (FDTD), the identical dispersion relation can be obtained and proved between the one-dimensional and three-dimensional grids. An efficient plane-wave source is simulated on one-dimensional grid and a perfect match can be achieved for a plane-wave propagating at any angle forming an integer grid cell ratio. Numerical simulations show that the method is valid for SFDTD and the residual field in SF region is shrinked down to -300 dB. 展开更多

In this paper,symplectic schemes and symmetric schemes are presented to simulate Nonlinear Schrodinger Equation(NLSE)in case of dark soliton motion.Firstly,by Ablowitz–Ladik model(A–L model),the NLSE is discretized into a non-canonical Hamiltonian system.Then,different kinds of coordinate transformations can be used to standardize the non-canonical Hamiltonian system.Therefore,the symplectic schemes and symmetric schemes can be employed to simulate the solitons motion and test the preservation of the invariants of the A–L model and the conserved quantities approximations of the original NLSE.The numerical experiments show that symplectic schemes and symmetric schemes have similar simulation effect,and own significant superiority over non-symplectic and non-symmetric schemes in long-term tracking the motion of solitons,preserving the invariants and the approximations of conserved quantities.Moreover,it is obvious that coordinate transformations with more symmetry have a better simulation effect. 展开更多

Here we introduce generalized momentum and coordinate to transform seismic wave displacement equations into Hamiltonian system.We define the Lie operators associated with kinetic and potential energy,and construct a new kind of second order symplectic scheme,which is extremely suitable for high efficient and long-term seismic wave simulations.Three sets of optimal coefficients are obtained based on the principle of minimum truncation error.We investigate the stability conditions for elastic wave simulation in homogeneous media.These newly developed symplectic schemes are compared with common symplectic schemes to verify the high precision and efficiency in theory and numerical experiments.One of the schemes presented here is compared with the classical Newmark algorithm and third order symplectic scheme to test the long-term computational ability.The scheme gets the same synthetic surface seismic records and single channel record as third order symplectic scheme in the seismic modeling in the heterogeneous model. 展开更多

In this paper,the symplectic perturbation series methodology of the non-conservative linear Hamiltonian system is presented for the structural dynamic response with damping.Firstly,the linear Hamiltonian system is briefly introduced and its conservation law is proved based on the properties of the exterior products.Then the symplectic perturbation series methodology is proposed to deal with the non-conservative linear Hamiltonian system and its conservation law is further proved.The structural dynamic response problem with eternal load and damping is transformed as the non-conservative linear Hamiltonian system and the symplectic difference schemes for the non-conservative linear Hamiltonian system are established.The applicability and validity of the proposed method are demonstrated by three engineering examples.The results demonstrate that the presented methodology is better than the traditional Runge–Kutta algorithm in the prediction of long-time structural dynamic response under the same time step. 展开更多

In this paper,we propose an explicit symplectic Fourier pseudospectral method for solving the Klein-Gordon-Schr odinger equation.The key idea is to rewrite the equation as an infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian system and discrete the system by using Fourier pseudospectral method in space and symplectic Euler method in time.After composing two different symplectic Euler methods for the ODEs resulted from semi-discretization in space,we get a new explicit scheme for the target equation which is of second order in space and spectral accuracy in time.The canonical Hamiltonian form of the resulted ODEs is presented and the new derived scheme is proved strictly to be symplectic.The new scheme is totally explicitwhereas symplectic scheme are generally implicit or semi-implicit.Linear stability analysis is carried and a necessary Courant-Friedrichs-Lewy condition is given.The numerical results are reported to test the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method in long-term computing. 展开更多

In this paper,we systematically construct two classes of structure-preserving schemes with arbitrary order of accuracy for canonical Hamiltonian systems.The one class is the symplectic scheme,which contains two new families of parameterized symplectic schemes that are derived by basing on the generating function method and the symmetric composition method,respectively.Each member in these schemes is symplectic for any fixed parameter.A more general form of generating functions is introduced,which generalizes the three classical generating functions that are widely used to construct symplectic algorithms.The other class is a novel family of energy and quadratic invariants preserving schemes,which is devised by adjusting the parameter in parameterized symplectic schemes to guarantee energy conservation at each time step.The existence of the solutions of these schemes is verified.Numerical experiments demonstrate the theoretical analysis and conservation of the proposed schemes. 展开更多

Usually, it is not symplectic for general Hamiltonian systems. It is interesting to ask: Under what conditions of Hamiltonians, the explicit Euler method becomes symplectic? In this paper, we give the class of Hamiltonians for which systems the explicit Euler method is symplectic. In fact, in these cases, the explicit Euler method is really the phase how of the systems, therefore symplectic. Most of important Hamiltonian systems can be decomposed as the summation of these simple systems. Then composition of the Euler method acting on these systems yields a symplectic method, also explicit. These systems are called symplectically separable. Classical separable Hamiltonian systems are symplectically separable. Especially, we prove that any polynomial Hamiltonian is symplectically separable. 展开更多

In this paper,we present a quadratic auxiliary variable approach to develop a new class of energy-preserving Runge-Kutta methods for the Korteweg-de Vries equation.The quadratic auxiliary variable approach is first proposed to reformulate the original model into an equivalent system,which transforms the energy conservation law of the Korteweg-de Vries equation into two quadratic invariants of the reformulated system.Then the symplectic Runge-Kutta methods are directly employed for the reformulated model to arrive at a new kind of time semi-discrete schemes for the original problem.Under consistent initial conditions,the proposed methods are rigorously proved to maintain the original energy conservation law of the Korteweg-de Vries equation.In addition,the Fourier pseudo-spectral method is used for spatial discretization,resulting in fully discrete energy-preserving schemes.To implement the proposed methods effectively,we present a very efficient iterative technique,which not only greatly saves the calculation cost,but also achieves the purpose of practically preserving structure.Ample numerical results are addressed to confirm the expected order of accuracy,conservative property and efficiency of the proposed algorithms. 展开更多
