Thick Target Neutron Production on Aluminum and Copper by 40 MeV Deuterons

The modified Glauber model is employed... The thick target neutron yields (TTNYs) of deuteron-induced reaction on AI and Cu isotopes are analyzed by combining the improved nuclear models and particle transport effects. The modified Glauber model is employed mainly to produce the peak of double differential cross section for the breakup process, and the exciton model and the Hauser-Feshbach theory are used for the statistical processes. The thin-layer accumulation method is used to calculate the TTNYs considering the neutron attenuation effects in the target. The calculated results are compared with the existing experimental data, and the analysis method can predict the TTNY data well at the deuteron energy of 40 MeV. 展开更多

This paper presents a conceptual design for the first tentative surface muon source based on the proton beam provided by China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS). We have calcu- lated the optimal parameters of solid muon target, in which the method of Monte Carlo simula- tion is used to obtain the optimal muon beam parameters, such as beam fiuence rate, momentum spread and phase space distribution. A simple muon transport beamline system was also designed, which could transport the muons emitted from the muon target into the experimental area, where positrons from muon decay in a test sample are detected by a spectrometer. Despite increased international efforts to control schistosomiasis using preventive chemotherapy,several challenges still exist in reaching the target populations.Until recently,preschool-aged children had been excluded from the recommended target population for mass drug administration,i.e.primary school children aged 6-15 years.Our studies and those of others provided the evidence base for the need to treat preschool-aged children that led to recommendations by the World Health Organization to include preschool-aged children in treatment programmes in 2010.The major challenge now lies in the unavailability of a child-size formulation of the appropriate anthelmintic drug,praziquantel.The currently available formulation of praziquantel presents several problems.First,it is a large tablet,making it difficult for young children and infants to swallow it and thus requires its breaking/crushing to allow for safe uptake.Second,it is bitter so it is often mixed with a sweetener to make it palatable for young children.Third,the current formulation of 600 mg does not allow for flexible dose adjustments for this age group.Thus,there is a need to formulate a child-appropriate praziquantel tablet.This paper discusses the target product profile for paediatric praziquantel,as well as knowledge gaps pertinent to the successful control of schistosome infection and disease in preschool-aged children. 展开更多
