Innovation and Evaluation of Technology Acceptance Model (Tam) in S-Commerce: A Case of Social Media Platforms in Ghana

Electronic commerce is quickly increasing in several countries, most notably in developing countries. A new electronic-commerce segment known as social commerce has evolved due to the popularity of social media. Consumer trust is important to social commerce success and impacts purchase choices. In modern times, majority of businesses have changed how from the traditional businesses and migrated to social commerce. Electronic commerce was the first of its sort, followed by social commerce, which conducted business via social networking platforms. Identifying the factors that influence social commerce use enables businesses to enhance those features and boost revenue. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine how increased technology usage influences the social commerce activities of Ghanaian businessmen and women. A review of the literature resulted in the development of a conceptual model. Six hundred and twenty-five responses from Ghanaian enterprises and women who use e-commerce platforms were used to assess the conceptual approach. Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS SEM) was used to validate the model. The reliability and validity of the measuring apparatus were determined using measurement model analysis. To examine the model’s fit and assumptions, we used structural model analysis. Five hypotheses were supported by the structural model data. Effort Expectancy, Perceived Ease of Use, Performance Expectancy, Perceived Utility, and Trust were shown to be the most influential criteria affecting behavioral intention to use s-commerce in Ghana. The findings of this research have major significance for academics and practitioners of social trade. 展开更多

These systems resolve position of a user by using GNSS/GPS positioning technologies, to which supplementary information on goods and services are tagged. The navigation services have become popular and can be installed on mobile phones to provide route information, location of points of interest and user’s current location. LBS has continued to face challenges which include “communication” process towards user reference. Location Based Service System conveys suitable information through a mobile device for effective decision making and reaction within a given time span. This research was geared at understanding the state of LBS technology acceptance and adoption by users in Nairobi Kenya. To do this a quantitative study was carried out through a questionnaire, to investigate mobile phone users’ response on awareness and use of LBS technology. Testing the growth of this technology in this region compared to predictions in previous studies using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), it is evident that many users may be aware of GPS functionality in mobile phones but are certainly yet to fully embrace the technology as they rarely use it. This points to some underlying challenges towards this technology within this part of the World, thereby recommending for deliberate monitoring and evaluation of LBS technology for sustenance growth based on user satisfaction and acceptance for improved usability. 展开更多

Blogs have permeated into our daily lives at a fast speed, and various kinds of blog spaces have attracted our attention. However, little effort has been made on studying the users' motivation to participate in blog activities. This paper aims to construct a theoretical model about the blog adoption based on technology acceptance model(TAM theory), social capital theory and social exchange theory, and put forward 18 related hypotheses. Then the survey method is adopted to analyze the data from 208 questionnaires using the SPSS and LISREL tools, and to examine the theoretical model and hypotheses. Finally, the paper makes a discussion from five aspects due to the results of data analysis, including individual driving factors, group driving factors, community driving factors, technology acceptance factors and moderating variables. The results show that curiosity/enjoyment, user's experience, social interaction and social identification will greatly affect users' motivation to accept a blog; meanwhile, perceived ease of use, exchange cost and trust will partially influence users' intention to participate in blog activities. The results also suggest that age and education degrees have significant moderating effects on users' acceptance and updating of blogs. 展开更多

To meet the needs of today’s library users,institutions are developing library mobile apps(LMAs),as their libraries are increasingly intelligent and rely on deep learning.This paper explores the influencing factors and differences in the perception of LMAs at different time points after a user has downloaded an LMA.A research model was constructed based on the technology acceptance model.A questionnaire was designed and distributed twice to LMA users with an interval of three months to collect dynamic data.The analysis was based on structural equation modeling.The empirical results show that the perceived ease of use,the perceived usefulness,the social influence,and the facilitating conditions affected the users’behavioral intention,but their impacts were different at different times.As the usage time increases,the technology acceptance model is still universal for understanding the user perception of LMA.In addition,two extended variables(social impact and convenience)also affect the user’s behavior intention.User behavior is dynamic and changed over time.This study is important both theoretically and practically,as the results could be used to improve the service quality of LMAs and reduce the loss rate of users.Its findings may help the designers and developers of LMAs to optimize them from the perspective of a user and improve the service experience by providing a deeper understanding of the adoption behavior of information systems by LMA users. 展开更多

Firms need cloud computing adoption for strategic and competitive goals, generating business value, and at last gaining competitive advantage. This study reviews the literature regarding cloud computing and IT governance, and presents a research model along with its hypotheses formulation to examine the factors impacting cloud computing perceived importance in several Arab firms, specifically Jordan, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates by using the integration of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) model and Technology-Organizational-Environmental (TOE) framework as adapted from [1]. 329 returned surveys from top, middle-level IT managers, and IT employees from the operational level of the studied firms were analyzed using the structural equation modeling technique. The study found relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, organizational readiness, top management commitment, and training and education as important variables for impacting cloud computing adoption using perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness as mediating variables. The model explained 61%, 63%, and 74% of cloud computing adoption for perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and perceived importance respectively. 展开更多

Purpose: This study intends to examine the factors that influence Chinese college students' use of the lnternet for acquiring information. Design/methodology/approach: This paper developed the research model by using the technology acceptance model (TAM) and information system success model as the theoretical foundation. The proposed model was empirically tested with the structural equation modeling technique based on data collected from a survey of 357 college students. Findings: The results show that 1) perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and perceived playfulness all have a positive impact on the intention to use the Internet for acquiring information, 2) use context and system quality significantly influence perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, and 3) service quality has a positive impact on perceived ease of use but not on perceived usefulness. Likewise information quality has no positive effect on perceived usefulness. Research limitations: The survey respondents were mainly from college students in Nanjing. We need to recruit college students in the western or other developing areas in China to further validate our findings. Practical implications: This study puts forward some feasible suggestions for university libraries to improve information organization and the use of digital library resources to better meet the needs of library users. Originality/value: This study provides insights into the understanding of the factors affecting college students' online information acquisition from multiple perspectives. 展开更多

This study investigated E-ticketing adoption in the bus transport sector in the Kumasi Metropolis of Ghana. The study applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and the Structural Equation Modelling technique was used to analyse the factors affecting the intention to use the E-ticketing system. In that regard, the study was based on perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norms, and demographic variables. Quantitative research approaches were used by distributing questionnaires to 392 passengers, employing the cluster and random sampling techniques. Findings from the study showed that perceived usefulness and subjective norm were the significant factors affecting passengers’ intention to adopt the E-ticketing system. Besides, perceived ease of use and subjective norms were significant in predicting passengers’ perceived usefulness of adopting E-ticketing system. The findings of this research will provide the government, industrial players, and the entire public a better understanding of the perceived factors that could enhance or serve as a barrier to passengers’ adoption of the E-ticketing system. Purpose–Connected vehicle-based variable speed limit(CV-VSL)systems in fog area use multi-source detection data to indicate drivers to make uniform change in speed when low visibility conditions suddenly occur.The purpose of the speed limit is to make the driver’s driving behavior more consistent,so as to improve traffic safety and relieve traffic congestion.The on-road dynamic message sign(DMS)and on-board human–machine interface(HMI)are two types of warning technologies for CV-VSL systems.This study aims to analyze drivers’acceptance of the two types of warning technologies in fog area and its influencing factors.Design/methodology/approach–This study developed DMS and on-board HMI for the CV-VSL system in fog area on a driving simulator.The DMS and on-board HMI provided the driver with weather and speed limit information.In all,38 participants participated in the experiment and completed questionnaires on drivers’basic information,perceived usefulness and ease of use of the CV-VSL systems.Technology acceptance model(TAM)was developed to evaluate the drivers’acceptance of CV-VSL systems.A variance analysis method was used to study the influencing factors of drivers’acceptance including drivers’characteristics,technology types and fog density.Findings–The results showed that drivers’acceptance of on-road DMS was significantly higher than that of on-board HMI.The fog density had no significant effect on drivers’acceptance of on-road DMS or on-board HMI.Drivers’gender,age,driving year and driving personality were associated with the acceptance of the two CV-VSL technologies differently.This study is beneficial to the functional improvement of on-road DMS,on-board HMI and their market prospects.Originality/value–Previous studies have been conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of CV-VSL systems.However,there were rare studies focused on the drivers’attitude toward using which was also called as acceptance of the CV-VSL systems.Therefore,this research calculated the drivers’acceptance of two normally used CV-VSL systems including on-road DMS and on-board HMI using TAM.Furthermore,variance analysis was conducted to explore whether the factors such as drivers’characteristics(gender,age,driving year and driving personality),technology types and fog density affected the drivers’acceptance of the CV-VSL systems. 展开更多

This research will investigate factors that affect that may have an influence on perceived ease of use of Cybersecurity, the influence of perceived ease of use on the attitude towards using Cybersecurity, the influence of attitude towards using Cybersecurity on the actual use of Cybersecurity and the influences of job positions on perceived ease of use of Cybersecurity and on the attitude towards using Cybersecurity and on the actual use of Cybersecurity. A model was constructed to investigate eight hypotheses that are related to the investigation. An online questionnaire was constructed to collect data and results showed that hypotheses 1 to 7 influence were significant. However, hypothesis 8 turned out to be insignificant and no influence was found between job positions and the actual use of Cybersecurity. 展开更多

In taking into full consideration of the technology acceptance model(TAM),this empirical study has made a few assumptions and also has formulated a model for the study on the level of satisfaction of database users. This research project was conducted by collecting relevant data from library users of five universities. Specifically, it aimed to measure database users' level of satisfaction and tried to find factors affecting these graduate students who are using databases regularly at their university libraries. An analysis of the collected data shows that the level of database users' satisfaction could be directly affected by the database service quality, the easiness of accessing the system and user perceived notion of usefulness of those databases that they use often. This study also found that database users' gender could be a significant factor in their perceived notion of easiness of accessing databases, and also in their perceived notion of satisfaction for their successful information retrieval operations. The frequency of accessing databases by these graduate students has an impact on users' perceived notion of easiness of database access. The users' school classifications could make a significant difference in their perceived notion on the extent of usefulness of a particular database. 展开更多

Based on the framework of social cognition theory,this paper proposed a systematic gerontechnology acceptance model for older people from both environmental and personal factors.Taking the Beijing senior citizens as an example,we used questionnaire survey data analysis and structural equation modeling methods to conduct empirical research that explores the factors affecting the willingness of the Beijing senior citizens to use gerontechnology and to examine the relationships among these factors.Results show that–in terms of personal factors–self-satisfaction,perceived usefulness and cognitive ability have a significant positive impact on the elderly’s intended uptake of gerontechnology;in terms of environmental factors,social influence not only directly affects the elderly’s intended use,but these elements can also shape the proposed use by influencing personal factors.We noted that facilitating conditions have only an indirect effect on the way of older people’s plan to use gerontechnology.The results confirmed the rationality and effectiveness of applying social cognition theory to study the behavior of seniors’acceptance of gerontechnology.Based on the research results,we proposed some suggestions to promote better research and development of gerontechnology for the elderly in Beijing. 展开更多

This work aims to investigate the factors accelerating electric vehicle(EV)acceptance at the consumer end in Pakistan and analyzes the implications for policymakers for a fast-track EV transition.The study further in-vestigates the high EV penetration scenario resulting from the technology acceptance model(TAM's 80%EV)and its impact on energy demand and CO_(2)emissions.The study design used a quantitative analysis method with the survey as an instrument for data collection regarding EV acceptance.The model under investigation was adapted from the famous Technology-Acceptance Models(TAMs)and modified with other significant predictors evidenced in the literature.Correlation and stepwise regression were performed with a multicollinearity check for model hypothesis testing.Out of six predictors,only four factors were significant in accelerating the EV transition.Financial policies were found to be highly significant,followed by environmental concern,facilitating conditions and perceived ease of use.The research then used exponential smoothing forecasts for transport demand and developed an EV penetration scenario based on modified TAM results.The results highlight the significant in-crease in transport demand and the opportunity for Pakistan to limit passenger transport emissions to 36.6 MT instead of 61.6 MT by 2040. 展开更多

As one of the most widely accepted adoption models in information systems research, the technology acceptance model (TAM) focuses exclusively on cognition-oriented constructs such as perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. This perspective may have limited the explanatory power of TAM when it is utilized in studying consumers’ adoption intentions of online shopping. Based on the contrasts between e-commerce systems and traditional workplace information systems as well as empirical findings from a variety of recent e-commerce research works, this paper analyzes an extended model which integrates three additional constructs: trust, social presence, and perceived enjoyment. The interrelationship between these constructs is also explained. Empirical validations of this extended model are expected in future research. 展开更多

Two classical theories, the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the innovation diffusion theory (IDT), were integrated into a model for analyzing individual information technology (IT) adoption behavior. In this IDT-TAM framework, the perceived characteristics of innovation are categorized as subjective evaluation, objective conditions, and interaction factors. The cognitive mechanisms that drive user IT acceptance are analyzed based on the patterns through which these characteristics influence individual user IT adoption behavior. The model was tested using an empirical survey regarding the adoption and use of e-mail in China. Results from a structural equation model analysis illustrate that the model provides meaningful insights for understanding, explaining, and predicting the IT adoption behavior of Chinese users. 展开更多

Based on the characteristics of mobile searches and a review of previous information technology acceptance research, this study integrates the task technology fit model and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model to develop a mobile search acceptance model and empirically tests this model. This study finds that, for mobile searches, the performance expectancy, social influence, and perceived cost all significantly influence use intention and the performance expectancy increases with the increasing user's experience and higher tasktechnology fit degree. The effort expectancy is found to not affect the use intention of mobile searches and the users' gender does not have a significant moderating effect on the use intention. The results are then used to develop suggestions for mobile search providers to promote their application and development. 展开更多

Many scholars have applied the classical TAM to various research domains. However, the relationships between variables in these TAM models are not strongly desired. Thirty-four articles selected from international journals were analyzed to show that most of the relationships in the classical TAM are significant, but the stabilities of these relationships differ. The significant positive relationships between perceived ease of use and its independent variables are more stable than the others. Various factors can strengthen or weaken these relationships. 展开更多
