Therefore, understanding the effects of NPBA on the deformation and damage evolution of the NEPE propellant is fundamental to material design and applications. This paper studies the uniaxial tensile and stress relaxation responses of the NEPE propellant with different amounts of NPBA. The damage evolution in terms of interface debonding is further investigated using a cohesive-zone model(CZM). Experimental results show that the initial modulus and strength of the NEPE propellant increase with the increasing amount of NPBA while the elongation decreases. Meanwhile, the relaxation rate slows down and a higher long-term equilibrium modulus is reached. Experimental and numerical analyses indicate that interface debonding and crack propagation along filler-matrix interface are the dominant damage mechanism for the samples with a low amount of NPBA, while damage localization and crack advancement through the matrix are predominant for the ones with a high amount of NPBA. Finally, crosslinking density tests and simulation results also show that the effect of the bonding agent is interfacial rather than due to the overall crosslinking density change of the binder.展开更多

The results show that the TiAl ingot exhibits good heat workability during containerless near-isothermally forging process, and there are not evident cracks on the surface of as-forged TiAl pancake with a total deformation degree of 60%. The microstructure of the TiAl ingot appears to be typical nearly-lamellar(NL), comprising a great amount of lamellar colonies (α2+γ) and a few equiaxed γ grains. After near-isothermally forging, the as-forged pancake shows primarily fine equiaxed γ grains with an average grain size of 20 μm and some broken lamellar pieces, and some bent lamellas still exist in the hard-deformation zone. Tensile tests at room temperature show that ultimate tensile strength increases from 433 MPa to 573 MPa after forging due to grain refinement effect.展开更多

A small mount of Ca addition results in significant microstructural refinement and formation of a Al2Ca phase, which showed two kinds of morphologies, lamellar and tiny granular. The former distributes on grain boundaries and the later is within the matrix grains. With the increase of Ca addition the volume fraction of Al-RE compound (Al11RE3) decreases, but Al2Ca increases. The experimental results indicate that the distribution of TiC particles with size of 5 to 10 μm in diameter is uniform if the volume fraction of TiC is lower than 6%. However, slight agglomeration can be observed when the TiC content exceeds 6%. With the increase of TiC content the tensile and yield strength of the composites prepared increases and reaches the maximum when the volume fraction of TiC increases to 5%. Further increase of TiC content causes reductions of yield and tensile strength. The ductility of the composites shows a monotone decrease with the increase of TiC addition. The introduction of TiC into 420 stainless steel results in significant improvement on wear resistance, which reaches a steady level when the volume fraction of TiC increases to 11% and does not show obvious variation if the TiC content is further increased.展开更多

The results reveal that high strength and low ductility are obtained in all semi-solid forged alloys. Tensile properties decrease as the semi-solid forging temperature increases, and cleavage fractures are observed after semi-solid forging at 1 050 °C. The variations in tensile properties are attributed to the coarse microstructures obtained in the semi-solid alloys. It is found that the elevated semi-solid temperatures lead to more liquid precipitates along the prior grain boundaries, which increases the peritectic precipitation and formation of Ti2Cu precipitation zones during re-solidification. Recrystallization heat treatment leads to fine microstructure of semi-solid forged alloys, resulting in improvement of tensile properties.展开更多

Then for some determination options with different stress ratios the least squares method minimizing the strain terms was used to calculate the elastic constants from the experimental data. Finally the influences of the determination options with different stress ratios and the reciprocal relationship on the elastic constants were discussed. Results show that the orthotropy of the envelope material can be attributed to the unbalanced crimp of their constitutive yarns in warp and weft directions and the elastic constants vary noticeably with the determination options as well as the normalized stress ratios. In real design practice it is more reasonable to use constants determined for specific stress states in particular stress ratios depending on the project's needs. Also calculating the structures with two limitative sets of elastic constants instead of using only one set is recommendable in light of the great variety of the constant's values.展开更多

Results show that microalloying of cerium is very effective on increasing the room temperature ductility of Fe 3Al based alloys. Surface analysis by XPS demonstrates that cerium addition causes the change in the oxide chemistry and provides rapid passivation of the specimen surface. The high temperature strength and creep resistance of Fe 3Al based alloys can be significantly enhanced by alloying additions of tungsten, niobium or molybdenum, especially when combined additions of tungsten with niobium or molybdenum are used. The additions of tungsten, niobium or molybdenum also result in the significant microstructural refinement and the formation of fine precipitates which are identified as M 6C type carbide in the alloys containing tungsten.展开更多

Because of the massive loads these vehicles carry, dealing with weld reinforcement on TIG joints represents an important issue in their manufacturing and strength evaluation. Experimental and numerical simulation methods were used to investigate the effects of weld toe shape and weld toe position on the tensile behavior and mechanical properties of these joints. The simulation results indicated that the relative difference in elongation could be as large as 96.9% caused by the difference in weld toe shape. The joints with weld toes located in the weld metal or in the partially melted zone (PMZ) exhibited larger elongation than joints with weld toes located at the juncture of the weld metal and the PMZ.展开更多

In this route, the squeeze casting was used to predeform the magnesium alloy billets to obtain small dendritic structures. During subsequent partial remelting, small dendritic structures transform into globular grains surrounded by liquid films. The results show that the squeeze casting AZ61 alloy after partial remelting produces more ideal, finer semi-solid microstructure compared with as-cast AZ61 alloy treated by the same isothermal holding conditions. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the thixoformed AZ61 alloy prepared by squeeze casting plus partial remelting are better than those of the thixoformed alloy prepared by conventional casting plus partial remelting.展开更多

The results showed that deforming temperature has no effect on the microstructure of the alloy, while tensile properties are thermo-sensitive. With the increasing testing temperature the strength of the alloy decreased, and the ductility increased. While, the ductility of the alloy decreased weakly at the temperature range of 823 K to 923 K. And the main reason can be considered as the easily-broken of the MC type block carbides due to the stress concentration at the interface between the matrix and carbides to form the micro-cracks during the deforming process.展开更多

The mechanical properties and microstructures of the composites were investigated. The results showed that the elastic modulus of the as-cast composites increased straightly with increasing ZnO coating content. The ultimate tensile strength and yield strength of the as-cast composites rapidly increased initially and then declined with increasing ZnO coating content. However, the elongations of all the as-cast composites had similar values. The elongations of the composites were highly enhanced and the ultimate tensile strength of the composite without ZnO coating was the largest after extrusion. A number of whiskers in the composites with ZnO coating were fractured during the extrusion process, but the whiskers' breakage extent was limited with the increase of coating content.展开更多

The emergence and propagation of the crack, and the fracture behavior in materials have been observed and studied. It is found that in the case of the tensile test, the crack emerged in SiC fiber initially. In the case of the strong cohesion of the fiber-metal interface, the crack propagated in the fiber, meanwhile the fibers in the neighborhood of the cracked fiber began to crack and the Mg-Al metal deformed plastically, and at last the material fractured. Otherwise the toughness of the materials grows in the case of the lower cohesion of the fiber-metal matrix interface.展开更多

The microstructures and fracture surfaces were observed by OM, SEM and TEM. Results show that the tensile strength of [100] specimen is higher than that of [120] and [110] specimens at 760 and 850 °C;while at the temperatures higher than 980 °C, the tensile strength of all specimens has little difference. The fracture mechanisms of [100],[120] and [110] specimens are the same at 760 and 980 °C. At 1100 °C, the fracture surfaces of [100] and [120] specimens are characterized by dimple features;while [110] specimen shows mixed quasi-cleavage and dimple featured fracture surfaces. At 760 °C, obvious superlattice stacking faults (SSFs) are observed only in [100] specimen;while at 1100 °C, the dislocation configurations of all specimens are similar. The difference in the number of potential active slip systems in [100],[120] and [110] specimens during the tensile deformation process is the main reason for the transverse tensile anisotropy.展开更多

Thermomechanical processing leads to a microstructural evolution from cast dendritic structures to equiaxed ones, consisting of face-centered cubic (fcc) and body-centered cubic (bcc) phases in the two states. The volume fraction of bcc phase increases and the size of fcc grain decreases with increasing Al content, resulting in remarkably improved tensile strength. Specifically, the serrated flow occurring at the medium temperatures varies from type A+B to B+C or C as the testing temperature increases. The average serration amplitude of these Al-containing alloys is larger than that of CoCrFeNiMn alloy due to the enhanced pinning effect. The early small strain produces low-density of dislocation arrays and bowed dislocations in fcc grains while the dislocation climb and shearing mechanism dominate inside bcc grains. The cross-slip and kinks of dislocations are frequently observed and high-density-tangled dislocations lead to dislocation cells after plastic deformation with a high strain.展开更多

Also calculating the structures with two limitative sets of elastic constants instead of using only one set is recommendable in light of the great variety of the constant's values.
文摘Effects of alloying processing on tensile test properties of Fe 3Al based alloys have been studied. The additions of tungsten, niobium or molybdenum also result in the significant microstructural refinement and the formation of fine precipitates which are identified as M 6C type carbide in the alloys containing tungsten.
文摘Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welded joints for 2219-T87 aluminum alloy are often used in the fuel tanks of large launch vehicles. The joints with weld toes located in the weld metal or in the partially melted zone (PMZ) exhibited larger elongation than joints with weld toes located at the juncture of the weld metal and the PMZ.

文摘An innovative one-step semi-solid processing technique of A356 Al alloy, the serpentine channel pouring rheo-diecasting process (SCRC),was explored. The mechanical properties and microstructures of the tensile samples made by the SCRC technique were tested in the as-cast and T6 heat treatment conditions. The experimental results show that the as-cast ultimate tensile strength can reach about 250MPa and the elongation is 8.6%?13.2%.The ultimate tensile strength can increase approximately 30% higher than that of the as-cast one but there is some slight sacrifice of the plasticity after T6 heat treatment.Under these experimental conditions, the semi-solid A356 Al alloy slurry with primary α1(Al) grains, which have the shape factor of 0.78?0.89 and the grain diameter of 35?45μm,can be prepared by the serpentine channel pouring process. The primary α2(Al) grains are very fine during the secondary solidification stage.Compared with the conventional HPDC process, the SCRC process can improve the microstructures and mechanical properties of the tensile test samples. The advantages of the SCRC process include easily incorporating with an existing HPDC machine, cancelling the preservation and transportation process of the semi-solid alloy slurry, and a higher cost performance.

文摘A novel process that combines squeeze casting with partial remelting to obtain AZ61 magnesium alloy with semi-solid microstructures was proposed. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the thixoformed AZ61 alloy prepared by squeeze casting plus partial remelting are better than those of the thixoformed alloy prepared by conventional casting plus partial remelting.
文摘Effects of temperature on tensile properties and deformation behavior of the nickel-based superalloy GH4586A have been investigated. And the main reason can be considered as the easily-broken of the MC type block carbides due to the stress concentration at the interface between the matrix and carbides to form the micro-cracks during the deforming process.

文摘The 6061 aluminum matrix composites reinforced with ZnO-coated Mg_2B_2O_5w were fabricated by squeeze casting method and followed by extruded under a technical equivalent condition. A number of whiskers in the composites with ZnO coating were fractured during the extrusion process, but the whiskers' breakage extent was limited with the increase of coating content.
文摘The mechanical properties of the SiC fiber-reinforced Mg-Al metal matrix composite materials have been studied on internal microstructure by (scanning electron microscopy) SEM in-situ tensile test. Otherwise the toughness of the materials grows in the case of the lower cohesion of the fiber-metal matrix interface.
文摘At temperatures ranging from 760 to 1100 °C, the tensile properties of a nickel-based third generation single crystal superalloy DD9 with [100],[120] and [110] orientations were studied. The difference in the number of potential active slip systems in [100],[120] and [110] specimens during the tensile deformation process is the main reason for the transverse tensile anisotropy.

文摘Microstructures and mechanical properties of dual-phase AlxCrMnFeCoNi (x=0.4, 0.5, 0.6, at.%) alloys were investigated. The cross-slip and kinks of dislocations are frequently observed and high-density-tangled dislocations lead to dislocation cells after plastic deformation with a high strain.

文摘The effects of Sn content on microstructure and tensile properties of as-cast and as-extruded Mg-8Li-3Al-(1,2,3)Sn(wt.%)alloys were investigated by X-ray diffractometry(XRD),optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and tensile test.It is found that,as-cast Mg-8Li-3Al-(1,2,3)Sn alloys consist ofα-Mg+β-Li duplex matrix,MgLiAl2 and Li2Mg Sn phases.Increasing Sn content leads to grain refinement ofα-Mg dendrites and increase in content of Li2MgSn phase.During hot extrusion, complete dynamic recrystallization(DRX)takes place inβ-Li phase while incomplete DRX takes place inα-Mg phase. As Sn content is increased, the volume fraction of DRXedα-Mg grains is increased and the average grain size of DRXedα-Mg grains is decreased.Increasing Sn content is beneficial to strength but harmful to ductility for as-cast Mg-8Li-3Al-(1,2,3)Sn alloys.Tensile properties of Mg-8Li-3Al-(1,2,3)Sn alloys are improved significantly via hot extrusion and Mg-8Li-3Al-2Sn alloy exhibits the best tensile properties.
