Study on the Textual Coherence Function of Conjunctions in Political Texts and Their Translation Reconstruction

The assessment of translation quality in political texts is primarily based on achieving effective communication.Throughout the translation process,it is essential to not only accurately convey the original content but also effectively transform the structural mechanisms of the source language.In the translation reconstruction of political texts,various textual cohesion methods are often employed,with conjunctions serving as a primary means for semantic coherence within text units.

A Brief Overview of Cohesion in Text

In a text,there are many ties used to link the language together.Cohesion and coherence are the two important factors.In order to create the coherence in the discourse,writers and speakers have to use a lot of cohesive devices within clause and between clause complexes,including reference,ellipsis,substitution and lexical cohesion.The analysis of cohesion facilitates the use of language.

Reference in cohesion： From the perspective of text analysis

This paper attempts to explore how cohesion is realized by meanings of reference in text analysis. Through analyzing some aspects of reference, especially personal reference and demonstrative reference, we know that reference is a text characteristic beyond sentences. It contributes to the development of a text and makes the text more cohesive, communicative and accurate. Of course, reference in cohesion is not used separately, it is closely related with other aspects of text analysis, and they cooperate and restrain each other and perform functions together. So translators are required to have the competence of understanding and applying reference, ellipsis and other cohesive device from the viewpoint of texts level with the combination of other aspects in text analysis, then texts can be more cohesive, coherent and acceptable.

College English Writing Instruction from the Perspective of Text Linguistics

This paper is designed to explore whether the theory of text linguistics,especially the knowledge of cohesion,coherence and cohesive devices could be applied in college English writing teaching to help improve students’writing abilities.Besides,the author puts forward some suggestions for both English teachers and learners.

AUTOMATIC TEXT SUMMARIZATION BASED ON TEXTUAL COHESION

This paper presents two different algorithms that derive the cohesion structure in the form of lexical chains from two kinds of language resources HowNet and TongYiCiCiLin. The re-search that connects the cohesion structure of a text to the derivation of its summary is displayed. A novel model of automatic text summarization is devised,based on the data provided by lexical chains from original texts. Moreover,the construction rules of lexical chains are modified accord-ing to characteristics of the knowledge database in order to be more suitable for Chinese summa-rization. Evaluation results show that high quality indicative summaries are produced from Chi-nese texts.

Analysis on Text-level Reading

Reading,especially reading at text level,is a process of continuously repeating,consolidating and understanding words,phrases,and sentences.However,from the perspective of psycholinguistics,the compariosn and contrast of empirical data from experiments and researches would be evidences to support the idea that reading at text level is mainly influenced by readers' ability of identifying a text's cohesion and coherence,balancing the activation and suppression of background knowledge,as well as readers' utilization of working memory.Readers can make good use of these three aspects in order to advance their understanding of reading at text level.

Text-Based Intelligent Learning Emotion System

Nowadays, millions of users use many social media systems every day. These services produce massive messages, which play a vital role in the social networking paradigm. As we see, an intelligent learning emotion system is desperately needed for detecting emotion among these messages. This system could be suitable in understanding users’ feelings towards particular discussion. This paper proposes a text-based emotion recognition approach that uses personal text data to recognize user’s current emotion. The proposed approach applies Dominant Meaning Technique to recognize user’s emotion. The paper reports promising experiential results on the tested dataset based on the proposed algorithm.

The Analysis of Cohesion and Coherence in Susan E.Rice's Commencement Address(Excerpt) at Stanford University

This paper analyzes the cohesion and coherence of Susan E.Rice commencement address at Stanford University in2010(Excerpt)from the perspective of systemic functional linguistics.A conclusion can be drawn that this part of the speech is highly cohesive and coherent both grammatically and textually no matter from ideational meaning,interpersonal meaning and textual meaning.

Similarity matrix-based K-means algorithm for text clustering

K-means algorithm is one of the most widely used algorithms in the clustering analysis. To deal with the problem caused by the random selection of initial center points in the traditional al- gorithm, this paper proposes an improved K-means algorithm based on the similarity matrix. The im- proved algorithm can effectively avoid the random selection of initial center points, therefore it can provide effective initial points for clustering process, and reduce the fluctuation of clustering results which are resulted from initial points selections, thus a better clustering quality can be obtained. The experimental results also show that the F-measure of the improved K-means algorithm has been greatly improved and the clustering results are more stable.

论texture的涵义及其汉语译名的修正

学界对texture内涵、功能的解读五花八门,造成很大程度的学术混乱,因此有必要加以修正。通过大量语篇分析、研究发现:韩礼德、哈桑定义的"衔接加语域一致性"只是产生texture构建语篇的一种路径,杜世洪定义的"话语脉络"比较全面地阐释了产生texture的路径;texture是语篇与非语篇的区别性特征,对应语篇"连贯性",是一个没有具体指代实体的哲学概念;将texture译名修正为"语篇特性"比较符合术语翻译原则。研究有望促进语篇语言学研究良性发展。

基于K均值和aiNet的两阶段文本聚类算法

为了克服基于aiNet的文本聚类算法在处理高维数时性能下降的缺点,设计一种基于聚类中心的虚拟坐标映射机制的文本表示模型,实现文本向量模型的降维技术。在文本进行K均值聚类后,对文本向量进行降维,再将其作为aiNet文本聚类的输入。实验表明,通过两阶段的算法对文本进行聚类,有效提高了aiNet文本聚类质量。

Nowadays,discourse analysis has taken its place in the study of text linguistics.As one of the essential properties of the text,coherence plays a very important role in the understanding of the text.The thesis is aiming at illustrating the realizations of coherence in two aspects:discourse connectives and cohesion,analyzing their differences as well as elaborating their different roles in contributing to successful communication.

CLASSIFYING WESTERN NORTH PACIFIC TROPICAL CYCLONES BY PHYSICAL INDEX SYSTEM

The classification of tropical cyclones(TCs) is significant to obtaining their temporal and spatial variation characteristics in the context of dramatic-changing global climate. A new TCs clustering method by using K-means clustering algorithm with nine physical indexes is proposed in the paper. Each TC is quantified into an 11-dimensional vector concerning trajectory attributes, time attributes and power attributes. Two recurving clusters(cluster A and E)and three straight-moving clusters(cluster B, C and D) are categorized from the TC best-track dataset of the western North Pacific(WNP) over the period of 1949-2013, and TCs' properties have been analyzed and compared in different aspects. The calculation results of coefficient variation(CV) and Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency(NSE) reveal a high level of intra-cluster cohesiveness and inter-cluster divergence, which means that the physical index system could serve as a feasible method of TCs classification. The clusters are then analyzed in terms of trajectory, lifespan, seasonality, trend,intensity and Power Dissipation Index(PDI). The five classified clusters show distinct features in TCs' temporal and spatial development discipline. Moreover, each cluster has its individual motion pattern, variation trend, influence region and impact degree.

What Does China’s Accession to the Hague Agreement Mean?

On February 5,2022,the Chinese government deposited its instrument of accession to the Geneva text of the Hague Agreement(1999)with the director general of the WIPO,thus becoming the 68th Contracting Party to the 1999 text and the 77th member state of the Hague Union.The Geneva text of the Hague Agreement(1999)will enter into force in China on May 5,2022.In preparation for joining the Hague System,China amended the Patent Law on June 1,2021.
