It then offers two characteristics of the Chinese cuisine naming with specific cultural implications. First, its primary motivation is characterized with straight-forwardness; Next, its secondary motivations of the Chinese cuisine naming consisting of the initiator’s name, the animal’s name, the plant’s name, the verse’s name and the special meaning’s name. We should follow the principles of stability and consistency in cuisine naming and its translation. The findings are not only interesting but provide a sound basis for a further understanding of one another.展开更多

Most Chinese common sayings contain figurative meanings and the images involved are usually vivid and culture-specific; therefore it is very difficult to translate them. It is found that David Hawkes is more creative and use more free translation while the Yangs use more literal translation. This supports Feng Qinghua's suggestion that the Yangs prefer to use literal translation while David Hawkes is inclined to use free translation.展开更多

Firstly, three vectors for each text are formed: the personal name Boolean vectors denoting whether a personal name occurs in the text, the biographical word Boolean vector representing title, occupation and so forth, and the feature vector with real values. Then, by combining a heuristic strategy based on Boolean vectors with an agglomerative clustering algorithm based on feature vectors, it seeks to resolve multi-document personal name coreference. Experimental results show that this approach achieves a good performance by testing on 'Wang Gang' corpus.展开更多
