The move has aroused extensive attention. On this, our staff reporter interviewed Deputy Chief Procurator Wang Zhenchuan, who is in charge of the campaign against human rights violations.

Attitudes Toward People Who Stutter in the Chinese Context: An Exploratory Study on the Impact of Knowledge Sources

The public’s attitudes can affect the experience of stuttering of people who stutter.This study investigated the attitudes held by the public about people who stutter in China.A web-based written survey with closed and open-ended questions was implemented to develop a rich understanding.One hundred and two respondents in 26 provinces and 3 municipalities provided comments on people who stutter in their life aspects such as personality,speech,social life,work,life participation,education,dating and marriage,capability,and communication skills.The predominantly negative attitudes towards the overall domains were identified.Attitudes to people who stutter varied according to the different sources of knowledge.Familiarity with people who stutter might reduce stereotypes.However,knowledge from the media might aggravate stereotypes.Implications and future research orientation were also discussed.

Strengthening Active Aging through Older People’s Association and Economic Activity of the Older People in Nepal

Aging is a natural lifelong process ending in death. Many older people are living in poverty. Older people are generally considered dependent on others as they grow older. The purpose of this article is to explore the entrepreneurship activities of Nepalese older adults. Data for this study were collected from the project Help Age International (HAI) implemented in Nepal. Qualitative data observations and interviews were used to collect data. The findings of this study show the formation of the Older People’s Association (OPA) has supported many older people to participate outside the home in various social activities. Moreover, regular deposits through OPAs offer little help. OPAs support older people in their need of financial support to implement minor entrepreneurship. Older people who received support were pleased and were actively involved in their activities and also regularly deposited money in them. Subsequently, older people’s participation in social activities has increased and also helped to lower elderly abuse, loneliness, and depression. Local governments should promote such activities which will help with healthy aging.

Four Dimensions of Integrating Chinese Culture Into College English Teaching From the Perspective of Tyler’s Basic Principles

Integrating Chinese culture into college English can not only enhance students’humanities literacy and cultivate their cultural confidence,but also facilitate the inheritance and international dissemination of Chinese culture.Taking Tyler’s curriculum framework as the starting point,this paper analyzes some factors that affect the integration of Chinese culture into the college English teaching and proposes some strategies for the integration of Chinese culture into college English teaching by innovating teaching objectives,enriching teaching contents,transforming modes of course delivery,and reconstructing the assessment system.

A Study of the People’s Nature in Woodcuts During the Anti-Japanese War in Shanxi

The anti-Japanese woodcuts focus on the red revolutionary culture and describe the connotation of the Anti-Japanese War era,which is self-evident in the commemorative value of China’s revolutionary struggle history.For example,in Shanxi,China,woodcut art activities and social practice promotion activities organized around the theme of the Anti-Japanese War are also everywhere,which all show the people’s nature of the Chinese people during the revolutionary struggle from the two aspects of the red culture of the Anti-Japanese War and traditional art and culture,and its humanistic connotation is quite profound.In this paper,we first introduce the historical origin of woodcut during the Anti-Japanese War,and then show the people’s value connotation of woodcut art activities in Shanxi.This paper mainly discusses the image narration,language and picture narration and construction significance of woodcuts in Shanxi’s War of Resistance,fully reveals the narrative nature of image media,strives to arouse people’s recognition of this period of Shanxi’s War of Resistance culture and history,and reflects the realistic value and significance of Shanxi’s War of Resistance Woodcuts art activities.

Mach’s Principle Revised: Is the Inertia, and also Gravitational Interaction of Bodies, Determined by Their Long-Range Gravitational Interaction with Distant Matter in the Universe?

The work analyzes the basic assumption in Mach’s principle, namely that the inertia of material bodies is determined by their gravitational interaction with distant masses in the universe. However, while Mach’s principle is based on the so-called “long-range gravitational interaction” characterized by an infinitely large propagation velocity, our study is based on a “modified” long-range principle, assuming a very large but finite propagation velocity of the gravitational interaction between local material objects and distant matter. Thus, it is postulated that there are two types of gravitational interaction—short-range gravitational interaction between local objects and long-range gravitational interaction between local objects and distant matter in the universe, which are characterized by different propagation speeds, but with the same gravitational constant. On the basis of the modified long-range principle, a model of distant matter is built in the form of a hollow spherical layer with negligible thickness. The phenomenological assumption is made that the movement with acceleration of the local reference frame (RF) is related to a change in the spherically symmetric distribution of the lines of gravitational interaction of this RF with distant matter, which is expressed in a corresponding asymmetric distribution of the effective mass density on the hollow sphere. A simplified (idealized) model of the effective change of the hollow sphere of distant matter by cutting off separate segments of the sphere is proposed. On the basis of the model, the possibility of representing the inertial effects in three simplest types of reference frames through a corresponding gravitational interaction is considered: 1) inertial RF;2) RF moving in a straight line with constant acceleration;3) RF rotating with constant angular velocity. Expressions were obtained for the gravitational accelerations acting on the test body located inside the hollow sphere with a corresponding change (“cutting”). It is concluded that these accelerations can in a first approximation represent the inertial accelerations of the main types noted above. It is shown that in order to obtain reasonable values of the truncation parameters of the hollow sphere, it is necessary to assume that the gravitational interaction inside this sphere is not of the Newtonian type, i.e. the same depends on the distance not according to the law 1/r2, but according to modified law with a non-integer (fractional) exponent. This law corresponds to a fractal structure of the source of attraction inside the truncated sphere of distant matter. The issue of the possibility of the supposed modified long-range interaction is briefly discussed on the basis of a comparison of the finding a connection with the lines of force of the same with the “cosmic strings” assumed by a number of researchers, along which corresponding excitations (waves, particles) moving at super-light speed. The work advances the idea of the presence of unity and at the same time oppositeness of the inertia of material objects and the known gravitational interaction between them, which are generated by the properties of symmetry of the long-range gravitational interaction. Moreover, while the inertia of the bodies is due to the violation of this symmetry caused by their movement with acceleration, the gravitational interaction between the bodies is due to the aspiration to restore the symmetry of a far-reaching gravitational interaction, which is disturbed by the presence of local material bodies. In the conclusion of the work, the important physico-philosophical significance of Mach’s principle is emphasized, expressed in the understanding that not only the world of microscopic objects (“micro-world”), but also the world of huge cosmic objects (“mega-world”) can have a corresponding impact on our “macroscopic” world.

Historical review and reflections on the participation of acupuncture and moxibustion in the treatment of epidemics in the People’s Republic of China (from 1950 until now)

Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, both the Communist Party and the government have placed great emphasis on the advancement of traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture and moxibustion have been actively involved in combating major epidemics such as malaria, schistosomiasis, and COVID-19. This article conducts a historical review of these three significant cases to elucidate how the acupuncture community has effectively utilized its unique advantages and characteristics through theoretical discussions, clinical practices, experimental research, as well as receiving administrative leadership and political support from the Communist Party of China and government. We provide an objective evaluation of their effectiveness while summarizing historical experiences to serve as a reference for future utilization of acupuncture and moxibustion therapy in epidemic relief efforts. Additionally, propose four suggestions: strengthening Party leadership and enhancing political support;timely summarization of experiences to establish programs and systems;deepening scientific research by integrating experimental findings with clinical practice;focusing on public awareness campaigns and education to solidify grassroots foundations.

People’s Daily对我国应对新冠疫情的报道研究

本文用定量与定性相结合的研究方法构建了《人民日报》英文版People’s Daily对我国应对新冠肺炎疫情报道的语料库,从新闻文本、话语实践、社会实践三个维度对其进行批评性话语分析,发现其中或明或暗的意识形态、不甚清晰的权力结构以及政治控制等话语特征,并在此基础上得出相关结论,提出相关建议。

Predicting H2S Oxidative Dehydrogenation over Graphene Oxides from First Principles

Spin-polarized periodic density functional theory was performed to characterize H2S adsorp- tion and dissociation on graphene oxides （GO） surface. The comprehensive reaction network of H2S oxidation with epoxy and hydroxyl groups of GO was discussed. It is shown that the reduction reaction is mainly governed by epoxide ring opening and hydroxyl hydrogenation which is initiated by H transfer from H2S or its derivatives, hlrthermore, the presence of another OH group at the opposite side relative to the adsorbed H2S activates the oxygen group to facilitate epoxide ring opening and hydroxyl hydrogenation. For H2S interaction with -O and -OH groups adsorption on each side of graphene, the pathway is a favorable reaction path by the introduction of intermediate states, the predicted energy barriers are 3.2 and 10.4 kcal/mol, respectively, the second H transfer is tile rate-determining step in the whole reaction process. In addition, our calculations suggest that both epoxy and hydroxyl groups can enhance tile binding of S to the C-C bonds and the effect of hydroxyl group is more local than that of the epoxy.

A Good Example of Hemingway's Iceberg Principle:The Killers

Hemingway established a well-known literary theory - iceberg principle.He said he always attempted to create his literary works according to this principle.In his opinion,if a prose writer has a pretty clear idea of what he writes about,then he can omit the things he knows,and the readers will strongly feel that what the writer has omitted seems to have been written as long as what he writes is authentic.Hemingway himself once said,"The dignity of movement of an iceberg is due to only one eighth of it being above water."Here,one eighth refers to the information given by the author,and the rest refers to the unwrit ten information that can be acquired in readers'imagination on the basis of the one eighth.The Killers is a good example of Hemingway's iceberg principle.This essay will analyse the characters in it to show how the principle was used in this short story.With no doubt the iceberg principle leaves a large space for the readers to imagine and better understand Hemingway's works.

VECTORIAL EKELAND'S VARIATIONAL PRINCIPLE WITH A W-DISTANCE AND ITS EQUIVALENT THEOREMS

By using the properties of w-distances and Gerstewitz＇s functions, we first give a vectorial Takahashi＇s nonconvex minimization theorem with a w-distance. From this, we deduce a general vectorial Ekeland＇s variational principle, where the objective function is from a complete metric space into a pre-ordered topological vector space and the perturbation contains a w-distance and a non-decreasing function of the objective function value. From the general vectorial variational principle, we deduce a vectorial Caristfs fixed point theorem with a w-distance. Finally we show that the above three theorems are equivalent to each other. The related known results are generalized and improved. In particular, some conditions in the theorems of [Y. Araya, Ekeland＇s variational principle and its equivalent theorems in vector optimization, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 346（2008）, 9-16] are weakened or even completely relieved.

Simulation of people's evacuation in tunnel fire

The simulation model Tunev（tunnel evacuation） was developed for people＇s evacuation in tunnel fire. It contains simple database of the people＇s behavioral reaction and structure characteristic parameters of tunnel fireproofing. The model can be used to calculate the total evacuation time in various scenes when fire occurs in the different locations of the tunnel. Combined with fire simulation soft ware CFD- POENICS3.5, Tunev model can be used to calculate the fire danger coming time; by comparing with these two kinds of time, it can be used to assess the safety of the evacuation, and the evacuation process also have a dynamic demo. The simulation results show that the Tunev model can be used to predict the reliability of safe evacuation for people in tunnel fire and provide references for people＇s safe escape scheme. Some relevant concepts of the model were described and an evacuation simulation of a typical tunnel case, i.e. Xuefeng Mountain Tunnel was performed by using this model. And the model＇s validation and actual aoolication were also described.

Recent Advances on Herglotz’s Generalized Variational Principle of Nonconservative Dynamics

This paper summarized the recent development on Herglotz’s generalized variational principle and its symmetries and conserved quantities for nonconservative dynamical systems.Taking Lagrangian mechanics,Hamiltonian mechanics and Birkhoffian mechanics as three research frames,we introduce Herglotz’s generalized variational principle,dynamical equations of Herglotz type,Noether symmetry and conserved quantities,and their generalization to time-delay dynamics,fractional dynamics and time-scale dynamics,and put forward some problems as suggestions for future research.

High-Order Hamilton's Principle and the Hamilton's Principle of High-Order Lagrangian Function

In this paper, based on the theorem of the high-order velocity energy, integration and variation principle, the high-order Hamilton＇s principle of general holonomic systems is given. Then, three-order Lagrangian equations and four-order Lagrangian equations are obtained from the high-order Hamilton＇s principle. Finally, the Hamilton＇s principle of high-order Lagrangian function is given.

Fractional Pfaff-Birkhoff Principle and Birkhoff′s Equations in Terms of Riesz Fractional Derivatives

The dynamical and physical behavior of a complex system can be more accurately described by using the fractional model.With the successful use of fractional calculus in many areas of science and engineering,it is necessary to extend the classical theories and methods of analytical mechanics to the fractional dynamic system.Birkhoffian mechanics is a natural generalization of Hamiltonian mechanics,and its core is the Pfaff-Birkhoff principle and Birkhoff′s equations.The study on the Birkhoffian mechanics is an important developmental direction of modern analytical mechanics.Here,the fractional Pfaff-Birkhoff variational problem is presented and studied.The definitions of fractional derivatives,the formulae for integration by parts and some other preliminaries are firstly given.Secondly,the fractional Pfaff-Birkhoff principle and the fractional Birkhoff′s equations in terms of RieszRiemann-Liouville fractional derivatives and Riesz-Caputo fractional derivatives are presented respectively.Finally,an example is given to illustrate the application of the results.

Climate change impact in the Western Himalaya:people's perception and adaptive strategies

The Himalaya represents a vast mountain system and globally valued for its significant role in regulation of global as well as regional climate that has direct impact on biodiversity and ecosystem services crucial for sustenance of millions of people in Himalaya and adjoining areas. However, mountain regions worldwide are impacted by climate change and at the same time represent distinctive area for the assessment of climate related impacts. Climate change impacts in Himalayan region have its implications on food production, natural ecosystems,retreat of glacier, water supply, human and animal health and overall human well being. The livelihood and food security of the people inhabited in region largely depend on climate sensitive sectors i.e.agriculture, livestock, forestry and their interlinkages with each other, and has the potential to break down food and nutritional security as well as livelihood support systems. People's perception and understanding of climate can be an important asset when it comes to adaptation to climate change impact;however it is not taken into consideration for the development of policy design and implementation of modern mitigation and adaptation strategies by governments and other civil society organizations.The knowledge of local people and farming communities for rural landscape management and sustainable use of bioresources is gaining credence as a key strategy to cope up with the climate change.Therefore, the present study analyzes the indigenous knowledge of local people and their perceptions on climate change, and also documented adaptation approaches at local level in mountain ecosystem of western Himalaya. The study could be useful to policy makers to design appropriate adaptation strategies to cope up with the impacts of climate change.

EKELAND'S PRINCIPLE FOR SET-VALUED VECTOR EQUILIBRIUM PROBLEMS

In this paper, we introduce a concept of quasi C-lower semicontinuity for setvalued mapping and provide a vector version of Ekeland＇s theorem related to set-valued vector equilibrium problems. As applications, we derive an existence theorem of weakly efficient solution for set-valued vector equilibrium problems without the assumption of convexity of the constraint set and the assumptions of convexity and monotonicity of the set-valued mapping. We also obtain an existence theorem of ε-approximate solution for set-valued vector equilibrium problems without the assumptions of compactness and convexity of the constraint set.

Climate Change: Trends and People’s Perception in Nepal

In the context of climate change, the frequency and intensity of extreme events such as floods and droughts will increase which could put tremendous challenges in water resources management in the coming days. While scientific knowledge on climate threats and changing climate patterns are essential, it is also important to consider the impacts in relation to how the threats are perceived and handled by local people. This paper intends to assess the trend and people’s perception on temperature and precipitation. Three focus groups’ discussion and a total number of 240 households were interviewed during field visit. The collected information was scaled from the least preferred-1 to the most preferred-5 based on their preferences. The trend of mean of annual average, maximum and minimum temperature indicates that the temperature has increased significantly and precipitation intensity and magnitude are also in increasing trend in the monsoon and postmonsoon seasons which may raise the extreme flood events. These facts were verified with the people’s perception. This finding could be useful for formulation of effective flood management policy and plan in this river basin as well as very applicable for other similar areas.
