By investigating the construction status andexisting problems of Zhaoba Village in Nanjing, it tries to take “beauty” and “livability” as the planningrequirements. The village positioning is planned accurately, and the functional layout is carried outreasonably. While there is some virtue in previous theories on the history of literature based on the theory of evolution, class struggle and the enlightenment, when it comes to the twenty-first century, the histories of modem Chinese literature used in teaching are farfrom adequate for meeting the developmental needs of the times, society and literature. This is especially so in view of the putting forward of the goals of ＂putting people first＂ and ＂the harmonious society,＂ and the great changes taking place in time and space, the function of literature and aesthetic taste. Hence there is an urgent need to restructure this history and establish a more fair, equal and reasonable system of evaluation. Such a system would have humanism as its highest principle, and truth, goodness and beauty as its three virtues. Its great superiority would be its functional characteristics of universality, transcendence, fairness, and human-centeredness.展开更多

Particularly,it emphasized the integration of urban and rural development as a fundamental way to solve issues relating to agriculture,rural areas,and farmers. Consequently,how to integrate urban and rural development,and how to construct beautiful villages under national arrangements turns into distinctive historical responsibilities of the contemporary urban and rural planners. Nevertheless,due to the profound impact of the urban-rural dual system,there has been a huge disparity between rural and urban in both construction management and planning. Simply put,we know less about the rural but more about the urban. Taking the beautiful village construction in Jiangsu Province as an example,the paper draws from the empirical practices on village planning,farmers' wishes survey,and environmental remediation,in the hope to contest current village planning and construction concepts and to initiate more heated debates on rural areas at large. It seeks a new route for village construction and rural human settlement improvement that better respects the characteristics of China's rural areas,and meanwhile more faithfully refl ects farmers' demands.展开更多
