On the New Objectives of Building a Well-off Society in an all around Way

"The suggestion of the 13^(th) Five-Year Plan regarding the national economy and social development by the central committee of the Communist Party of China" was passed during the 5^(th) plenary session of the 18^(th) CPC Central Committee. It proposes new objectives for building a well-off society in an all around way. The objectives inherit the existing achievements for a well-off society by several generations of leaders and enrich the connotation of this theory from different perspectives, such as economy, livelihood, culture, ecology and institutional construction. During the sprint phase of building a well-off society in an all around way, three pairs of relationships should be coordinated, namely the relationship between economic focus and the overall layout in five aspects, between economic development and social justice, and between the international and domestic level.

A Study of the Relationship between Development of Sports and Harmonious Society of the New Age

Sports aims to improve the quality of people＇ s health and lead them to live a healthy life of leisure. When it comes to its inherent significance, the national fitness helps them understand the spirit of competition and its relevant values in the process of sports activities, which in turn aids to the building of right value concepts and national cohesion. For this aim, this paper discusses the relationship between development of sports and harmonious society of the new age, in the hope of contributing to the overall sports and building of the harmonious socialist society.

The 7th Biennial Conference of Chinese Ecological Economics Society (CEES) was held from 5th to 7th, Nov.2006 in Qingdao University. The paper summarizes the major viewpoint presented at the conference: eco-economicresearch and construction of a harmonious society in China. The Impact of the GST on Mortgage Yield Spreads of Australian Building Societies

Australia has experienced significant rises in mortgage costs and sharp declines in housing affordability in the last few decades, particularly since it implemented a new tax system of Goods and Services Tax （GST） in July 2000. Prior research has attempted to examine the influence of the GST on general price levels, but little research effort has been directed to investigate the impact of the GST on mortgage costs. Using proprietary data of major building societies in Australia for 36 months, this paper examines the changes of mortgage yield spreads in the pre-and post-GST periods for building societies. Results suggest that the lenders significantly increased their mortgage charges in the post-GST periods, For example, the increase is found to be, on average, 59.0 basis points which are much higher than that of banks.

Harmony between man and nature:the base for the harmonious society

The harmony between man and nature is the base for the harmonious society. It is determined by the eco-ruleand eco-economic rule. Human being should not violate the eco-rule. However, human being can make eco-systemsupply suit economic growth and its speed through systematical innovation and restriction of human economic activityand choice. Through technological innovation, efficiency satisfaction of unit resource can be increased; structure andfunction of eco-system can be perfected; supply capability of eco-system can be improved. To build the harmonioussociety, human should consider the reasonable distribution of limited resources from two sides. The first one is that theutilization of two functions of resource supply and pollution purification to nature should not exceed its special supplycapability formed under its special structure and function states, i.e. harmony between man and nature. The second sideis human being should think over the reasonable and effective distribution of limited resources in economic society, i.e.harmony between human beings and society. The reasonable economic activity of human being is the key to the harmo-nious development of man and nature.

Study on the Epistemology Development of the Correlation between Human Beings and Nature

This study aimed to alert people that the harmony between human beings and nature has already become an urgent problem. All people are responsible for maintaining the harmony, which is the also the inexorable trend of historical development. Reviewing the evolution history of human kind, the relationship between human beings and nature from harmony to imbalance, from imbalance to a new harmony was analyzed from the macro perspective, and it was pointed out that the present society is in the transitional phase from imbalance to a new harmony and also a phase that people are consciously coordinating their relationship with nature. It was found through the study that a harmonious society relies on the harmony between human beings and nature, and the latter is a necessary condition for a real harmonious society, however, people always forget such a principle. The imbalanced relationship between human beings and nature has seriously influenced many aspects of social harmony, and become instable factors in China and international society, even threatened the development and survival of human beings. Thus, all people should make joint efforts in creating win-win conditions for the development between human beings and nature, and ensuring offspring a healthy and green earth.

Analysis on the Evolution of Regional Economic Disparity in the West Coast of the Strait

With the implementation of reform and opening-up, the overall economy of China has made brilliant achievements; meanwhile, however, the economic disparity has been enlarging among some regions, and between the city and the countryside. The existence and evolution of this kind of economic disparity is concerned with social stability, sustainable development and the construction of harmonious society, which has gradually become the hotspot in social economic development. The West Coast of the Strait (WCS) located in southeast littoral areas is adjacent to the Pearl and Yangtze River Delta in the south and north and faces Taiwan Province in the east. The stability and development of this region has vital political and economic meaning in the social eco-nomic development of our country. It has important theoretical meaning and practical value to research the form, characteristics and evolution of regional economic disparity in the WCS. Based on insightful analysis on existing study results on the WCS, the paper defines the connotation and extension. By a series of abso-lute and comparative relative evaluation indexes and taking the WCS since 1992 as the study object, the paper makes analysis on different scales including three regions, four regions, 20 cities and 152 counties, quantitatively evaluates the level, characteristics and evolution of the regional economic disparity and compares the regional economic disparity on different scales. The main conclu-sions are as follows: the variation trend of the absolute disparity of the whole region is obvious and stable, which has presented an inflating trend; the comparative variation trend on a large scale has waved, The comparative disparity of the three regions in-creased annually from 1992 to around 2000, which had a decreas-ing trend from around 2000 to 2005; the comparative variation trend on a small scale was not stable, which showed an annual increase of four regions, 20 cities and 152 counties from 1992 to around 2003 and a decrease from around 2003 to 2005; there were some correlations between the regional disparity and scale. In other words, the smaller the scale was, the bigger the disparity was.

Hawthorne's Pursuit of an Ideal Harmony——A Case Study of the Image of Forest in Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter

As a masterpiece of Hawthorne's works, The Scarlet Letter sets up on New England in the seventieth century and successfully depicts the cruelty of Puritan society and the kill to human nature. However, it seems that this is not the only purpose for the author to criticize the Puritanism. Hawthorne also endeavors to pursuit an ideal harmony through the image of the forest,which is omitted by most of the scholars who research Hawthorne's works, especially for The Scarlet Letter. In this thesis, it aims to illustrate the ideal harmony from two perspectives: first, the image of the forest stands for the harmony of the primitive life; second, the image of the forest represents the harmony of the development both in body and mind.
