This process is almost as long as the film's course. After all, film is about ideology. Metaphysically, there cannot be a lack of emotion and spirit, and the emotion towards morbidity and spiritual expression cannot be missing. It is the same as all the relationships between narrators and the ones being narrated, the one who was narrated in the narrator's mouth reflects the one being narrated himself and also brands the narrator's own shadow. This is like the relationship of a mirror and the person who looks into the mirror. The image in the mirror reflects the person who looks into the mirror and shows many characteristics of the mirror such as diopter and focalization. However, the mirror does not know about it; the narrator might not know about it as well. Since the objects described are themselves as well as their own way of thinking and the expression of their emotional state, seeing the psychotic patient described by a filmmaker one can catch a glimpse of the filmmaker himself and the cultural systems and ideologies that are embedded in them. This point will always be the source that is most interesting and most worthwhile to ruminate over when considering this topic. 展开更多

A Corpus based Study on Gender Differences in Language-Take Friends as the Example

Men and women are different from each other in many aspects, including in language. In order to analyze the differences of male and female people's language in vocabulary and styles, two corpora have been built: one is the female main characters' lines of some episodes of Friends; and the other is the male main characters'. Taking Brown corpus as the reference corpus, a list of keywords for the two corpora, as well as frequencies of words, have been worked out respectively, by applying AntConc. Concordances and contexts also have been analyzed. The findings show that women use more interjection and hedges than men. What's more, women tend to be more cooperative than men in conversations. Additionally, women's words are less decisive when com-pared to men's. The results of this paper could give some suggestions in cross gender conversation so as to gain more effective communication. 展开更多

Every language possesses three cardinal elements: phonetic element, lexical element, and grammatical structure, of which lexis is the fundamental pillar that supports the huge system of a language. The close relationship between language and culture is most readily seen in words. In fact, being the most active and elastic element of a language, vocabulary has the greatest culture-loading capacity. Vocabulary teaching is an integral part of foreign language teaching. Its efficiency has a direct relation with the development of the learners' communicative competence. Vocabulary is culture-bound, so it is self-evident that culture introduction is indispensable in teaching. The author attempts to make a comparison between English and Chinese cultures, to make clear how cultural disparities exist in English and Chinese vocabulary, and to put forward some constructive suggestions on how to integrate culture into vocabulary teaching in Chinese schools, so as to promote the efficiency of vocabulary teaching and improve learners' competence in intercultural communication. 展开更多
