It will be more beneficial to Dalian Port and HaDa (Harbin-Dalian) and Binzhou (Harbin-Manzhouli) railways in Northeast China to the Siberia railway in Russia than 1) to other ports and the corresponding railways in China, 2) to the Nakhodka Port in Russia and the corresponding railways and 3) to the Chongjin Port in North Korea and the corresponding railways. This paper also puts forward the reform measures to adopt the ports and the railways in the northeast region in China for the land bridge transportation and the problems in transportation policies and management systems.展开更多
In order to study the seismic performance of typical approach bridge for port project, the seismic vulnerability model was created. 100 of the earthquake motion records are selected from the database of Pacific Earthq...In order to study the seismic performance of typical approach bridge for port project, the seismic vulnerability model was created. 100 of the earthquake motion records are selected from the database of Pacific Earthquake Research Centre, In order to obtain the maximum responses of structure dynamic response, the model was calculated by using non-linear time history analysis. Then reliability analysis method was used to generate the fragility curves of bridge components. And compared two kinds of bearing made differences to structure' s vulnerability. Researches show that bearing is easy to breakdown with earthquake action. Isolation bearing has good effect, and significantly reduces failure probability, fmaUy the fragility curves obtained can be used to evaluate the seismic performance of continuous beam bridge for port project, and provide the basis for seismic design of bridges for port project.展开更多

Technological advancements are continuously changing the paradigm of human existence.Human beings are constantly engaging in various measures to reduce the extent of sensory and motor impairment.This has been in the f...Technological advancements are continuously changing the paradigm of human existence.Human beings are constantly engaging in various measures to reduce the extent of sensory and motor impairment.This has been in the form of various devices,e.g.orthopedic prosthesis,visual aids (spectacles) and hearing aids.Countless attempts throughout the centuries have been made in an effort to improve sound amplification in patients.This article seeks to highlights the technological journey of one such implant,the middle ear implant,from its inception to the more technological advanced futuristic proposals.While there are many amplification devices available presently,there still remains a group of patients who have not experienced adequate amplification for their hearing loss and this subset may gain the greatest benefit from middle ear implants.展开更多
The headwater source of the Rio Grande is in the Colorado San Juan Mountains as it flows southeast and south. The river crosses deserts and steppes, watering rich irrigated agricultural regions as it drains into the G...The headwater source of the Rio Grande is in the Colorado San Juan Mountains as it flows southeast and south. The river crosses deserts and steppes, watering rich irrigated agricultural regions as it drains into the Gulf of Mexico near Brownsville, Texas. The river flow pattern is disrupted by hundreds of dams and irrigation diversions, which has left sections of the Rio Grande River dry. The lower Rio Grande Valley including the Rio Grande Delta is heavily irrigated and has become an important agricultural region. Since the mid-1990s, the flow has been reduced to 20% because of many large diversions, dams and consumption of water by cities and irrigated farmland. Even with a series of 2001 and 2002, Mexico-United States agreements administered by the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) the Rio Grande River had continued to failed to reach the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico and United States share the river. Historically, the Rio Grande has provided limited navigation and border security. There is a need to restore navigation and shipping by creating a lock and dam system from El Paso, Texas and Matamoros, Mexico to the Gulf of Mexico, In addition there is also a need to restore border security for the Lower Rio Grande, an international border river. If the Rio Grande is ever going to recover, it will require a lock and dam system and an increased river flow. The increased flow needs to be achieved by adding additional water from feeder lakes, a water pipeline, and a balanced approach to water management must include efficiency measures and aggressive conservation in urban areas and on irrigated agricultural lands.展开更多
