Older people are generally considered dependent on others as they grow older. The purpose of this article is to explore the entrepreneurship activities of Nepalese older adults. Data for this study were collected from the project Help Age International (HAI) implemented in Nepal. Qualitative data observations and interviews were used to collect data. The findings of this study show the formation of the Older People’s Association (OPA) has supported many older people to participate outside the home in various social activities. Moreover, regular deposits through OPAs offer little help. OPAs support older people in their need of financial support to implement minor entrepreneurship. Older people who received support were pleased and were actively involved in their activities and also regularly deposited money in them. Subsequently, older people’s participation in social activities has increased and also helped to lower elderly abuse, loneliness, and depression. Local governments should promote such activities which will help with healthy aging. 展开更多

Background:Alcohol and illicit drugs(AID)continue to be a major global health concern.Although preventable,AID is linked to millions of deaths annually worldwide. The situation is particularly grave for young people, with AID being a major direct risk factor for disability-adjusted youth life-years lost and death. It further contributes to assaults, road crashes, accidental poisoning, and suicide, leading to long-term issues and public health concerns. Objective:This study aimed at disclosing current AID prevalence data for Argentinian,Bulgarian,Chilean and Romanian youth. It shed light on the predictors of AID in young people from those countries.Method:The study used an online survey to gather data from people aged 18 to 25(n=1,297).The survey was underpinned by the theory of planned behaviour(TPB).Predictors were investigated separately for drinking alcohol and using illicit drugs. Results:Our data revealed that across the four target countries,49%to 90%of the participants drank alcohol, and 8%to 35%used illicit drugs in the past three months.Between 20%and 91%of them intended to drink, and between 8%and 31%intended to use illicit drugs in the following three months. Our TPB model predicted statistically significant(P<0.001)amounts of variance in drinking alcohol(between 61%and 72%)and using illicit drugs(between 20.3%and 74.4%).Intention was consistent in significantly predicting both behaviours.Evidence around the predictive validity of self-efficacy,age and gender was mixed across the investigated countries. Conclusion:This research provided an update on the scarce AID epidemiological data.It also supplied evidence about what theoretically-informed measures might be useful targets of interventions in the case of Argentina,Bulgaria,Chile and Romania. This new knowledge of understanding substance abuse determinants and prevalence may help researchers and practitioners better meet young people's health prevention needs. 展开更多

Narrative empathy is a relatively new theory and it can guide researchers in the studies of main-melody films so as to promote the communication of the core values of the society. The rhetorical mechanism of narrative empathy can be illustrated from five rhetorical elements, including rhetor, rhetorical goal, rhetorical situation, rhetorical strategy and audience. The theory of narrative empathy can be applied to the case study of the film My People,My Country. In the production of this film, the directors are the rhetors. The rhetors uphold the tenet of closeness, choose the right rhetorical situation as the 70th birthday of the People’s Republic of China, and use appropriate rhetorical strategies in order to realize the rhetorical goals of evoking empathy and inspiring patriotic feelings in the audience’s minds. An exploration and application of narrative empathy can be conducive to the empathic communication of Chinese main-melody films in order to achieve better communication effect. 展开更多

Since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, both the Communist Party and the government have placed great emphasis on the advancement of traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture and moxibustion have been actively involved in combating major epidemics such as malaria, schistosomiasis, and COVID-19. This article conducts a historical review of these three significant cases to elucidate how the acupuncture community has effectively utilized its unique advantages and characteristics through theoretical discussions, clinical practices, experimental research, as well as receiving administrative leadership and political support from the Communist Party of China and government. We provide an objective evaluation of their effectiveness while summarizing historical experiences to serve as a reference for future utilization of acupuncture and moxibustion therapy in epidemic relief efforts. Additionally, propose four suggestions: strengthening Party leadership and enhancing political support;timely summarization of experiences to establish programs and systems;deepening scientific research by integrating experimental findings with clinical practice;focusing on public awareness campaigns and education to solidify grassroots foundations. 展开更多

Numerous decision-makers in politics, science, and business worldwide have acknowledged that hydrogen H_(2) will become one of the most important energy sources of the 21st century if the desired energy transition to carbon-free energy sources is to be taken seriously.Nevertheless, this transition in general and the introduction of H_(2) in particular is still progressing far too slowly. There are now countless projects worldwide, including several worth billions of US dollars, but we are still waiting for the breakthrough. There seem to be various reasons for this, not just one single or most important one.Purpose:In the overall context of global earth overheating(often downplayed as“climate change”),hydrogen H_(2) will undoubtedly play a decisive role as of now.The paper aims to identify the key challenges and propose solutions for establishing a sustainable value chain for market penetration of H_(2).Design/methodology/approach:This paper aims to shed light on the current situation using freely accessible publications from global management consultancies and the German government,as well as critical reporting. The problem of human behavior is also explained by the Novak Triangle.Findings:Most people have come to understand that anthropogenic global overheating can only be solved by new technologies(which cost money, time, and behavioral change)in production and application.Hydrogen H_(2) appears to be an essential part of the desired solution.Nevertheless, there are currently still numerous challenges and also concrete concerns worldwide, which partially cast the implementation in a questionable light. The findings suggest that establishing a demand and supply of H_(2) needs a comprehensive infrastructure, circular economy principles, and changes in consumer behavior and policy frameworks. The paper proposes solutions for addressing these challenges.Affected countries:The situation described here relates to Germany and the EU countries, but it is likely to be comparable,or at least similar, for many industrialized countries. The challenges and solutions proposed in this paper are relevant to countries worldwide that are transitioning to sustainable energy and transportation systems.Research/future/practical implications:As of 2024,it must be stated that the implementation of H_(2) is still progressing far too slowly, even in the“model country”Germany. There are still problems and stalling in many places. The biggest challenge seems to be the problem:without demand, there is no supply;without supply, there is no demand. This can then best be achieved with simple“out-of-the-box”solutions in mindset(see Novak triangle). The research implications of this paper include the need for further research on the challenges of establishing a sustainable value chain and the effectiveness of the proposed solutions. The future implications of this paper include the importance of establishing a sustainable value chain to mitigate climate change and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The core point will become the collaboration across the entire value chain to establish a sustainable infrastructure for sustainable energy and transportation systems.Originality/value:Currently,there are virtually no scientific books that would present the overall context of the challenges. Therefore, only current surveys, market volumes, and challenges in environmental and working conditions can be described here. This paper contributes to the literature by analyzing the challenges of establishing a market model for hydrogen H_(2).The paper proposes solutions for addressing these challenges and shows difficulties. It provides valuable insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers working towards a sustainable energy future. 展开更多

Background: Globally, mental health is recognized as one of the major public health issues, and mental health stigma is one of the main barriers to mental healthcare. While several studies have been conducted on the stigma associated with mental health, very little is known about the mental health stigma experienced by deaf persons with mental health conditions in Ghana. This study examines the experiences of double stigmatization by deaf people with mental health conditions in Ghana. Methodology: A descriptive, mixed method data collection was used for seventy-nine (79) participants. The paper presents findings from the only qualitative component of the study. Results: The findings from the study showed that deaf people with mental illness experienced double stigma, namely being stigmatized for being deaf and for having mental illness. This hindered access to mental health services for deaf people with mental health condition. Conclusion: Deaf people with mental health conditions experience double stigmatization which discourages them from seeking professional psychiatric care. This implies that efforts to reduce mental health stigma and create awareness on deafness should be improved upon. It is recommended that, in view of the impact of stigma on the provision and use of mental health care services, strategies to improve access to mental health care, should seriously consider concerns about stigma. 展开更多

People’s lives have become easier and simpler as technology has proliferated. This is especially true with the Internet of Things(IoT).The biggest problem for blind people is figuring out how to get where they want to go.People with good eyesight need to help these people.Smart shoes are a technique that helps blind people find their way when they walk. So,a special shoe has been made to help blind people walk safely without worrying about running into other people or solid objects. In this research,we are making a new safety system and a smart shoe for blind people. The system is based on Internet of Things(IoT)technology and uses three ultrasonic sensors to allow users to hear and react to barriers. It has ultrasonic sensors and a microprocessor that can tell how far away something is and if there are any obstacles.Water and flame sensors were used, and a sound was used to let the person know if an obstacle was near him.The sensors use Global Positioning System(GPS)technology to detect motion from almost every side to keep an eye on them and ensure they are safe.To test our proposal,we gave a questionnaire to 100 people. The questionnaire has eleven questions, and 99.1%of the people who filled it out said that the product meets their needs. 展开更多

People living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are at risk. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of LEAD and identify the associated factors among people living with HIV who were followed at the departmental university hospital Ouémé-Plateau in Benin. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. It included all HIV-infected people who were monitored at the department of medicine of the target hospital during the study period and met the inclusion criteria (followed for at least three months, aged at least 25 years, and having given their written consent to participate). Data were collected during an individual interview, followed by the measurement of parameters. The ankle brachial index ≤ 0.9 was used for the diagnosis of LEAD. Associated factors were searched through a multivariable logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of LEAD was 34.2% among 222 respondents having a mean age was 42.9 ± 10.8 years and a female predominance (77.5%). No significant association was found between the presence of LEAD and sociodemographic factors. The presence of LEAD was significantly associated with hypertension and antiretroviral therapy. Hypertensive patients had a higher risk of LEAD compared to non-hypertensive patients (OR = 1.98, 95% CI [1.04-3.83], p = 0.037). Those who were receiving second-line therapy also had a higher risk of LEAD compared to those on first-line therapy (OR = 2.95, 95% CI [1.14-7.60], p = 0.025). Conclusion: This study showed a high prevalence of LEAD especially among hypertensive patients and those who were receiving second-line antiretroviral therapy. LEAD diagnosis and management should be included in the routine care of people living with HIV in Benin. 展开更多

Text-To-Speech(TTS)is a speech processing tool that is highly helpful for visually-challenged people. The TTS tool is applied to transform the texts into human-like sounds. However,it is highly challenging to accomplish the TTS out-comes for the non-diacritized text of the Arabic language since it has multiple unique features and rules. Some special characters like gemination and diacritic signs that correspondingly indicate consonant doubling and short vowels greatly impact the precise pronunciation of the Arabic language. But,such signs are not frequently used in the texts written in the Arabic language since its speakers and readers can guess them from the context itself. In this background, the current research article introduces an Optimal Deep Learning-driven Arab Text-to-Speech Synthesizer(ODLD-ATSS)model to help the visually-challenged people in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The prime aim of the presented ODLD-ATSS model is to convert the text into speech signals for visually-challenged people. To attain this, the presented ODLD-ATSS model initially designs a Gated Recurrent Unit(GRU)-based prediction model for diacritic and gemination signs.Besides, the Buckwalter code is utilized to capture, store and display the Arabic texts. To improve the TSS performance of the GRU method, the Aquila Optimization Algorithm(AOA)is used, which shows the novelty of the work.To illustrate the enhanced performance of the proposed ODLD-ATSS model, further experi-mental analyses were conducted. The proposed model achieved a maximum accu-racy of 96.35%,and the experimental outcomes infer the improved performance of the proposed ODLD-ATSS model over other DL-based TSS models. 展开更多

The“People’s Films,”when examined from the perspective of classical aesthetics, present a unique visual style that creates artistic conceptions through sparse filming and deliver a scenery-based ideology through background shots, contributing to the overall aesthetic taste dominated by plainness.Chinese national aesthetic tastes, distinguished by implicitness, symbolism, and ethereality, have the magical power to present charming conceptions via plain and simple scenes, thus endowing the“People’s Films”with natural, plain, and harmonious frames that are unique to China.Behind the silent and plain scenes are representations of personal cultivation and essential values cherished by the Chinese people, which are achieved via the momentary presence and entirety of scenes photographed in the films, delivering an internal transcendence of people’s consciousness. 展开更多

The establishment of an international judicial institution responsible to verify on a case-by-case basis when serious humanitarian crimes would fall within the competence of domestic judicial authorities, and when an international judiciary would be required is a visible accomplishment advocated for years. The important paradigm shift refers to governing the transitional challenges characterizing massive humanitarian escalations in conflict and post-conflict situations between the responsibility to protect civilians and the fight against the impunity of international crimes. In the current legislation of the UN the civilian protection duties are associated to the maintenance of peace and security and to the right of intervention in the domestic affairs of sovereign States for humanitarian reasons, extending further the reach of a criminal jurisdiction to punish the perpetrators. This has been the case in Darfur,Sudan, and Libya. Both these situations have been referred by the UN Security Council to the International Criminal Court(ICC).From an empirical perspective,it is still not demonstrated whether international criminal justice would have an impact on the maintenance and restoration of international peace and security, while its complementary role with global political regimes is in transition and deserves attention. The questions arising are as follow:how to rely on international criminal justice for the preservation, maintenance, and restoration of peace and security in extreme conflict zones, without solving the governance gaps during mass atrocity escalations characterized by jurisdictional referrals? Is this realistic considering the traditional concept of international security relying on old models of militarization, such as in the case of Libya? Are there political and strategic reasons for a postponement of accountability during such humanitarian interventions? In short, what kind of public authority is desired for the emerging regime of international criminal justice, and how would such tool function in the complexity of international governance? 展开更多
