With its unique title art,Dianshizhai Pictorial has become an important document for the study of the intersection of news communication and traditional Chinese culture in the Late Qing Dynasty.This study explores the formation mechanism,artistic features,and social influence of the title,from historical allusion,report content,stylistic structure to the appearance of sound and rhyme.Through this research,we hope to reveal the unique charm of the Dianshizhai Pictorial title and its important position in the history of journalism and communication,and to provide a new perspective for understanding the changes of Chinese traditional culture in the process of modernization.

A study of the disciplinary structure of mechanics based on the titles of published journal articles in mechanics

Scientometrics is an emerging academic field for the exploration of the structure of science through journal citation relations. However, this article aims to study those subject-relevant journals' contents rather than studying their citations contained therein with the purpose of discovering a given disciplinary structure of science such as mechanics in our case. Based on the title wordings of 68,075 articles published in 66 mechanics journals,and using such research tools as the word frequency analysis, multidimensional scaling analysis and factor analysis, this article analyzes similarity and distinctions of those journals' contents in the subject field of mechanics. We first convert complex internal relations of these mechanics journals into a small number amount of independent indicators.The group of selected mechanics journals is then classified by a cluster analysis. This article demonstrates that the relations of the research contents of mechanics can be shown in an intuitively recognizable map, and we can have them analyzed from a perspective by taking into account about how those major branches of mechanics, such as solid mechanics,fluid mechanics, rational mechanics(including mathematical methods in mechanics), sound and vibration mechanics, computational mechanics, are related to the main thematic tenet of our study. It is hoped that such an approach, buttressed with this new perspective and approach, will enrich our means to explore the disciplinary structure of science and technology in general and mechanics in specific.

Problems and Solutions Related to the Titles of Academic Papers

The Kingdom of Lettering： The Films Titles in the Early Years of Turkish Cinema

This paper explores the film title design in Turkish cinema with the aim of understanding the link between Turkish cinema and Turkish graphic design. It is carried through first with the interviews with producers, directors, title designers, and an extensive use of iconography and textual analysis has been made first between the title and the poster of the same film, and then the titles of the same period. The study focuses on the early period of Turkish cinema during a unique time of political, economical, and social change. In these years, the new Turkish Republic is born with very significant reforms such as the new alphabet. This has also been the time of the first fictional film, first sound film, and the first advertising agency and commercial poster in Turkish. The earliest title sequence that could be reached date back to 1932. From this year on, until the 1950s, which is named here as the early years of Turkish cinema, we see the kingdom of lettering where the typographic elements dominate the titles. During the kingdom of lettering, early Turkish film titles reflect the conditions of the time in terms of film production and the changing society. The paths of Turkish cinema and graphic design seem not to be fully crossed yet; nevertheless we witness the birth of a new visual form and a new nation in these titles

Discussion of Translation from English Film Titles into Chinese from the Perspective of Reception Theory

This paper, based on the Chinese audience＇s aesthetic and cultural anticipation and the application of Peter Newmark＇s translation theory on translating film rifles, discusses the features and translation of film title from English to Chinese. The four main translation methods--literal translation, transliteration, free translation, semantic translation and/or communicative translation and the different translation strategies of film titles used in Hong Kong and Taiwan are introduced in detail with sufficient examples.

Some Reflections on the Titles of English Majors＇ B.A. Theses

English majors＇ B.A. （Bachelor of Arts） thesis writing is an important part and test of the students＇ four-year undergraduate education. It lays solid foundation for their future study and work. Yet serious problems exist during the process. The author of the paper collects and analyzes the 289 titles of English majors＇ B.A. writing in the recent two years in Changchun University, China. The results of the analysis reveal that almost 40% of the titles are on literature every year and among them there are some similar titles. In view of this situation, the author first explores the reasons that caused those problems. One of the important reasons is that the increasing of the supervisors and reference materials cannot keep the pace of the expanding of students＇ numbers. The author, after that, makes some reflections on those problems, then proposes five practical supervising strategies, and makes some relevant suggestions for English major＇s thesis writing. Meanwhile some other related problems in thesis writing in China are also discussed.

Influences of Cultural Differences on Translation of Titles of Films
