A Brief Analysis and Evaluation of the Frequently Used College English Course Book——Listening and Speaking Course

This paper does some research and exploration of one of the most commonly used Chinese college English course book:Listening and Speaking Course(Second Edition 2010)compiled by Yu Shumei and Li Huiqin.It introduces the aims of the textbookand its structure.By evaluating the teaching functions of differnt parts,it can be safely concluded that this textbook is well quali-fied to be used.However,being inadequate in teaching listening strategies and lacking in teaching speaking strategies can affectstudents'listening and speaking in the long run.Therefore,it is strongly recommended that teachers should add more practicalstrategies and useful materials in their teaching procedures to make the textbook more applicable.

Research on the Teaching Reform and Practice of the Food Analysis Course Under the New Situation

With the development of society,the overall development of various industries in our country is unprecedentedly prosperous.However,various damaging industries with the sole goal of profit have emerged,significantly reducing people’s experience in basic needs such as food,clothing,housing,and transportation.Food analysis course is an essential primary subject established by colleges and universities to cultivate food quality and safety talents.In order to further ensure the food safety of society,this article mainly analyzes the teaching reform path of food analysis courses under the new situation.We hope the views in this article can provide guidelines for relevant workers.

The Survey on Course Design for Business English Majors on the Base of Needs Analysis

Based on the needs analysis theory, a survey on the course design of Business English at Honghe University are conducted. Business English majors' learning needs and attitudes towards course design of Business English are researched through questionnaires. Business English competences needed in workplaces and society's needs for Business English talents are investigated. After analyzing recruitment information for Business English talents collected from domestic credible websites, some suggestions on course design of business English are supplied.

Meta-analysis of late course accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy combined with FP chemotherapy for esophageal carcinoma

Background and Objective:Although there are many randomized clinical trials of late course accelerated hyperfractionated radiotherapy (LCAHFR) combined with FP chemotherapy for esophageal cancer, the efficacy and toxicity are controversial. This study was to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of LCAHFR combined with FP chemotherapy in treating esophageal cancer. Methods: Reports of randomized clinical trials on LCAHFR combined with FP chemotherapy for esophageal cancer published between January 1999 and January 2009 were researched through Wanfang, CNKI, and PubMed databases. RevMan4.2 software was used for Meta-analysis. Results: Twenty-one reports, including 2030 patients, were included in the meta-analysis. Of the 2030 patients, 1006 underwent LCAHFR (LCAHFR group), and 1024 underwent LCAHFR combined with FP chemotherapy (combination group). Compared with those of the LCAHFR group, the 1-, 2-, 3-, 5-years survival rates and 1-, 2-, 3-year local control rates of the combination group were significant increased, and the acute toxicity was also increased, but chronic toxicity showed no significant difference. C onclusions: LCAHFR combined with FP chemotherapy can improve the survival rate and the local control rate of the patients with esophageal cancer. The increased acute toxicity need to be concerned, whereas the chronic toxicity needs a long-term observation.

Application Analysis of Nursing Students'Grades in Course Relevance Based on Association Rule Mining Algorithm Apriori

By analyzing the correlation between courses in students’grades,we can provide a decision-making basis for the revision of courses and syllabi,rationally optimize courses,and further improve teaching effects.With the help of IBM SPSS Modeler data mining software,this paper uses Apriori algorithm for association rule mining to conduct an in-depth analysis of the grades of nursing students in Shandong College of Traditional Chinese Medicine,and to explore the correlation between professional basic courses and professional core courses.Lastly,according to the detailed analysis of the mining results,valuable curriculum information will be found from the actual teaching data.

Stylistics Course and the Literature Appreciation： Take The Portrait of a Lady for an Example

Both stylistics and literature are important courses for the English majors. How to apply stylistics theory in the literary analysis is important. The paper aims to provide some introduction of stylistics, its major domains and its contribution in analysing literature. It is suggested that characteristics of the language in a particular context can be identified within the guidelines of stylistic categories and that a better comprehension as well as appropriateness and effectiveness of the examined text can be achieved. With the help of stylistic analysis of novel The Portrait of a Lady （1996） by Henry James, its style can be appreciated from phonological, lexical and grammatical aspects.

A Comparative Analysis of Sino-Thai College English Course Teaching——A Case of Comparison between Jiujiang University and Chiang Mai University

English is one of the most common languages in the world,and it has become one of the most important subjects in various countries.The native languages of China and Thailand are not English,and both countries are located in Asia and have many similarities in geographical location and cultural background.The Ministries of Education of the two countries have successively put forward relevant policies to promote the development of English education in the country.The implementation of these policies has promoted the development of college English course teaching in the country.These factors determine that the two countries have similarities in college English course teaching for Non-English majors.However,there are differences in teaching mode and teaching staff in the two countries because of their different national conditions,which make many differences,exist in college English course teaching for non-English majors in the two countries.During the author’s career as an exchange student in Chiang Mai University,she experienced the difference of college English course teaching for non-English majors in Thai universities,so the author did some researches on the basis of the understanding of English course teaching in Thai universities.Therefore,this thesis takes Sino-Thai college English course teaching for non-English majors as the research object—takes Jiujiang University and Chiang Mai University as example,and analyses their present situation from the aspects of the development and evolution,the teaching mode,and teaching staff of college English course teaching for non-English majors.On this basis,the author makes a comparative analysis of the English course teaching for non-English majors in two selected universities,then find their respective advantages and disadvantages,and put forward some suggestions on the development of Sino-Thai college English course teaching.

Course Evaluation Based on Deep Learning and SSA Hyperparameters Optimization

Sentiment analysis attracts the attention of Egyptian Decisionmakers in the education sector.It offers a viable method to assess education quality services based on the students’feedback as well as that provides an understanding of their needs.As machine learning techniques offer automated strategies to process big data derived from social media and other digital channels,this research uses a dataset for tweets’sentiments to assess a few machine learning techniques.After dataset preprocessing to remove symbols,necessary stemming and lemmatization is performed for features extraction.This is followed by several machine learning techniques and a proposed Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)classifier optimized by the Salp Swarm Algorithm(SSA)and measured the corresponding performance.Then,the validity and accuracy of commonly used classifiers,such as Support Vector Machine,Logistic Regression Classifier,and Naive Bayes classifier,were reviewed.Moreover,LSTM based on the SSA classification model was compared with Support Vector Machine(SVM),Logistic Regression(LR),and Naive Bayes(NB).Finally,as LSTM based SSA achieved the highest accuracy,it was applied to predict the sentiments of students’feedback and evaluate their association with the course outcome evaluations for education quality purposes.

Scale for Evaluation of Humanities Courses: Development, Reliability and Validity

The present paper deals with development of a course evaluation survey (CES) questionnaire regarding evaluation of humanities courses (e.g., Commerce/Economics/Law) and assessment of its validity and reliability. Taking help from available questionnaires and also incorporating views from the teachers of the related subjects, the relevant Likert type items were selected. The drafted version of the questionnaire was finalized taking into account feedback from the subject experts. The focus was on simple language to ensure clarity to the students to facilitate accuracy of the collected data. The developed questionnaire consists of five domains involving fifteen Likert type items including a global item. For assessment of its reliability and validity, data were collected among two groups of undergraduate students studying two courses namely Accounts (n = 190) and Law (n = 90). For assessing questionnaire, Karl Pearson Correlation Coefficient, Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient and four factor solutions under factor analysis were used. The analytical results were quite consistent across the data sets (that are, accounts, law and pooled together) that exhibit good psychometric properties. It may thus be concluded that the questionnaire is valid, reliable and may measure what it is intended to measure.

A Probe on the Influential Factors in Content-Based ESP Courses Design

Recent years, problems of the current college English courses, such as test-oriented teaching, wasteful duplication of language skills teaching, etc., have been criticized by educators and students in China. Thus, turning skill-based English courses into content-based ESP （English for Special Purposes） courses has become a tendency at colleges and universities in China. The purpose of this paper is to analyze factors influencing the design of such courses through the means of questionnaire, individual interviews, data survey （e.g., educational plans） etc.. We found the following factors throw light on the questions relating to curriculum design of ESP courses： （1） the learners＇ learning needs; （2） the social needs （esp. labor market needs）; and （3） the academic needs from the university. The analysis serves to reveal the gap between the school system and actual social and students needs. With these factors in mind, designers of such courses can adjust goals, contents, approaches, and assessments in the practical teaching. And thus these factors would enable content-based ESP courses to reflect learners＇ needs better and lead to more effective langrage learning in college English teaching field.

Characterisation, Analysis and Design of Hydrated Cement Treated Crushed Rock Base as a Road Base Material in Western Australia

Hydrated Cement Treated Crushed Rock Base （HCTCRB） is widely used as a base course in Western Australian pavements. HCTCRB has been designed and used as a basis for empirical approaches and in empirical practices. These methods are not all-encompassing enough to adequately explain the behaviour of HCTCRB in the field. Recent developments in mechanistic approaches have proven more reliable in the design and analysis of pavement, making it possible to more effectively document the characteristics of HCTCRB. The aim of this study was to carry out laboratory testing to assess the mechanical characteristics of HCTCRB. Conventional triaxial tests and repeated load triaxial tests （RLT tests） were performed. Factors affecting the performance of HCTCRB, namely hydration periods and the amount of added water were also investigated. It was found that the shear strength parameters of HCTCRB were 177 kPa for cohesion （c） and 42~ for the internal friction angle （~）. The hydration period, and the water added in this investigation affected the performance of HCTCRB. However, the related trends associated with such factors could not be assessed. All HCTCRB samples showed stress-dependency behaviour. Based on the stress stages of this experiment, the resilient modulus values of HCTCRB ranged from 300 MPa to 1100 MPa. CIRCLY, a computer program based on the multi-layer elastic theory was used in the mechanistic approach to pavement design and analysis, to determine the performance of a typical pavement model using HCTCRB as a base course layer. The mechanistic pavement design parameters for HCTCRB as a base course material were then introduced. The analysis suggests that the suitable depth for HCTCRB as a base layer for WA roads is at least 185 mm for the design equivalent standard axle （ESA） of 10 million.

Needs Analysis of Non-English Majors Taking Business English as An Optional Course

The course design of business English as an optional course to Non-English majors should be based on needs analysis.A survey is conducted in the form of a questionnaire in this paper to find out about the needs of the non-English majors taking the course.Implications are provided for the future course design of business English as an optional course.

An Needs Analysis of English Writing Skills in the Engineering Context in China

This paper aims at investigating the needs of developing an English writing course for Chinese engineering students by employing the instruments of questionnaires and interview protocols.The results will be beneficial for the course development.
