Due to the recent explosion of big data, our society has been rapidly going through digital transformation and entering a new world with numerous eye-opening developments. These new trends impact the society and futur...Due to the recent explosion of big data, our society has been rapidly going through digital transformation and entering a new world with numerous eye-opening developments. These new trends impact the society and future jobs, and thus student careers. At the heart of this digital transformation is data science, the discipline that makes sense of big data. With many rapidly emerging digital challenges ahead of us, this article discusses perspectives on iSchools' opportunities and suggestions in data science education. We argue that iSchools should empower their students with "information computing" disciplines, which we define as the ability to solve problems and create values, information, and knowledge using tools in application domains. As specific approaches to enforcing information computing disciplines in data science education, we suggest the three foci of user-based, tool-based, and application- based. These three loci will serve to differentiate the data science education of iSchools from that of computer science or business schools. We present a layered Data Science Education Framework (DSEF) with building blocks that include the three pillars of data science (people, technology, and data), computational thinking, data-driven paradigms, and data science lifecycles. Data science courses built on the top of this framework should thus be executed with user-based, tool-based, and application-based approaches. This framework will help our students think about data science problems from the big picture perspective and foster appropriate problem-solving skills in conjunction with broad perspectives of data science lifecycles. We hope the DSEF discussed in this article will help fellow iSchools in their design of new data science curricula.展开更多

Kant's aim in Critique of Pure Reason is to rescue metaphysics from a "blind groping" by undertaking a revolution in metaphysics as Copernicus has brought to cosmology. Kant's Copernican turn consists in the assertion that the possibility of knowledge requires that "the objects must conform to our cognition." From Kant's view, we can know only what we "construct," "make," or "produce" as a necessary condition of knowledge, but we cannot know the mind--independent external world, i.e., the world which is independent of us. Self-learning is one of the most important scientific methods that helps develop sciences, as it derives from the desire and interests of the individual. However, self-learning loses importance if it does not follow t...Self-learning is one of the most important scientific methods that helps develop sciences, as it derives from the desire and interests of the individual. However, self-learning loses importance if it does not follow the scientific methodology for building and organizing information. The case becomes harder if the science is new and few scientific sources are available. Quantum computing is one of the new sciences in computer science and needs the support of specialists to develop it. Quantum computing overlaps with many sciences such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics, so any student in one of the previous disciplines may lose the correct self-learning path to find themselves learning the details of another discipline that does not achieve their goals. This article motivates students and those interested in computer science to begin studying the science of quantum computing and choose the same specialization that suits their interests. The article also provides a roadmap for self-learning steps to protect the learner from losing the correct learning path. I have categorized the stages of learning quantum computing into four steps through which all the essential basics can be learned, provided the goals mentioned in each stage which should be achieved. The learning strategy proposed in this article corresponds with individuals’ self-learning rules. Through my personal experience, the proposed learning strategy has proven its effectiveness in building information in an enjoyable scientific way.展开更多
