Changes in Ecosystem Service Values on the Loess Plateau in Northern Shaanxi Province,China

The Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi Province of China covers Yulin, Yan＇an, and Tongchuan cities mainly. The kind of physiognomy is complicated and various, including the transitional region of the sand and wind, the hilly-gully fragile region, the pimple mound region from North to South. Large-scale land reclamation projects that are severely affecting these ecosystems have been implemented. In this paper, we reported an investigation to the changes in land use and ecosystem services on the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi Province from 1978 to 2000. We used three LANDSAT TM and/or ETM data sets to estimate the changes in the size of five land-cover/land-use categories, and we also used previously published value coefficients to estimate the changes in the value of ecosystem services delivered by each land category. Finally, we ranked the contribution of various ecosystem functions to the overall value of the ecosystem services, we have estimated that the annual value of the ecosystem services is 56.95 billon RMB yuan in the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi Province in 2000. In the region, from 1978 to 2000, the economic value of the fixing carbon was higher, the economic value of water conservation was the lowest, but the economic value of the NPP, fixing carbon, and supplying oxygen accounted for above ninety percent of the total value, obviously the vegetation created the biggest ecosystem service value. We can conclude that future land-use policy formulation should give precedence to the conservation of these ecosystems over uncontrolled reclamation, and that further land reclamation should be based on rigorous environmental impact analyses.

THE VALUE OF M_2-TYPE PYRUVATE KINASE IMMUNOASSAY IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF HEPATOCARCINOMA

By using Fab'-enzyme labelled immuno absorbent assay (ELISA) with sensitivity of picogram (10-12 g or pg) level, the M-type pyruvate kinase (M-PyK) in plasma was determined in 47 cases of normal healthy adult and 26 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patient. It was found that the upper limits of normal male and female were 1.1 and 1.4 ng/ml (expressed as M2-PyK) respectively. The plasma M-PyK in HCC patients was significant increased to above 5 times of average normal level, the positive rate was about 95%. In 6 cases of subclinical small hepatocarcinoma and 7 cases of HCC patient with normal serum alpha-fetal protein level, the mean plasma M-PyK value was also increased. Whereas the plasma M-PyK level in acute or chronic hepatitis and other benign diseases were normal. After the HCC being resected, the plasma M-PyK returned to normal, but increased again in the cases of recurrent hepatocarcinoma, suggesting that the increased M-PyK in the plasma of HCC patient was criginated from M2-type PyK in HCC tissue. Therefore, plasma M-PyK may become a new micro-level index of hepatocarcinoma.

Analysis on the Driving Factors and Realization Path of the Value of Tutor-Student Relationship of Postgraduates-with Medical and Pharmaceutical Universities as an Example

A harmonious relationship between teachers and postgraduates presents the comprehensive value of psychological education,which guarantees training quality and acts as an effective carrier of mental health education of the postgraduates.Based on Bandura’s theory of reciprocal determinism and Austin’s input-output theory,this paper constructs a model concerning the value of psychological education in the tutor-student relationship.The path of realization is also explored in a structural equation model through a questionnaire survey of 1112 graduate supervisors and administrators in medical colleges.The experimental result indicates that(1)The interaction between teachers and postgraduates promotes the value of psychological education in the highest measure,among which the quality and frequency of tutor-student communication,mutual trust,and respect act as the key influencing indicators.(2)Tutor’s professional quality is considered as the fundamental driving force in the realization of psychological education value in the tutor-student relationship,the maximum mediating effect is observed in the developing path of tutor’s professional quality-interaction behavior between teachers and postgraduates-psychological growth of teachers and postgraduates.(3)The objective results obtained by teachers and postgraduates,such as the improvement of quality and quantity,positively promote the overall quality of life satisfaction of both sides,which improves the major psychological growth indicators.(4)In the path that affects the psychological growth of teachers and postgraduates,female groups mainly focusing on natural sciences pay more attention to the tutor-student emotional experience,while male and lower-grade groups pay more attention to behavioral interaction;In the path that affects the interaction between teachers and postgraduates,the tutor does not value the difference in the quality of graduate students,lower-grade and natural science professional groups pay more attention to institutional environment.
