Previous studies have identified that vehicle speed and lighting conditions are significant risk factors impacting work zone safety. </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">This study evaluated the impact of the use of presence lighting and digital </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">speed limit trailers on nighttime motorist speeds using commercially available connected vehicle speed data. Geospatial analysis was conducted on over 500,000 connected vehicle records to linear reference nearly 18,000 records from 195 unique trajectories to study section during the study period of 2 days. Results showed that median speeds reduced by 4 to 13 mph from 11PM to 7AM during the deployment of presence lighting and speed limit trailers </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">compared to base conditions. A Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) statistical test</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> com</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">paring 105 vehicles traveling through the construction zone with presence</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> lighting and speed limit trailers with a group of 90 vehicles during base condition indicated the speeds during the deployment of presence lighting and speed limit trailers were lower than the base condition. Although some perceptions of the workers may seem absurd to others, these components are part of their reality. Worker behavior is an extremely important factor in workplace safety as many accidents are often caused by insecure actions, in which combinations of human behavior are the consequence of such perceptions. The aim of this study was to explore workers’ perceptions of safety practices in their habitual work environment, a building site in Mexico. Worker perceptions of safety practices were captured using an instrument in which the following dimensions were taken into consideration: Education and training, Work motivation, Family and social integration, Work place integration, Safety awareness integration, and Accidents. The conclusion was that the workers have received very little education and possess a limited culture of safety awareness, which has led them to perceive that their lack of precaution is the main cause of accidents.展开更多

In 1999, a world record of annual concrete placement of 4.585 Mm\+3 was set . In 2000, it is planned to place 5.4 Mm\+3 of concrete and to install 38 000 t of metal works . To meet the requirements of specifications,intelligent optimization of steel bar blanking can improve resource utilization and promote the intelligent development of sustainable construction.As one of the most importa...To meet the requirements of specifications,intelligent optimization of steel bar blanking can improve resource utilization and promote the intelligent development of sustainable construction.As one of the most important building materials in construction engineering,reinforcing bars(rebar)account for more than 30%of the cost in civil engineering.A significant amount of cutting waste is generated during the construction phase.Excessive cutting waste increases construction costs and generates a considerable amount of CO_(2)emission.This study aimed to develop an optimization algorithm for steel bar blanking that can be used in the intelligent optimization of steel bar engineering to realize sustainable construction.In the proposed algorithm,the integer linear programming algorithm was applied to solve the problem.It was combined with the statistical method,a greedy strategy was introduced,and a method for determining the dynamic critical threshold was developed to ensure the accuracy of large-scale data calculation.The proposed algorithm was verified through a case study;the results confirmed that the rebar loss rate of the proposed method was reduced by 9.124%compared with that of traditional distributed processing of steel bars,reducing CO_(2)emissions and saving construction costs.As the scale of a project increases,the calculation quality of the optimization algorithmfor steel bar blanking proposed also increases,while maintaining high calculation efficiency.When the results of this study are applied in practice,they can be used as a sustainable foundation for building informatization and intelligent development.展开更多

Despite recent efforts to improve site safety, it still accounts for a disproportionate number of occupational-related fatalities what is supported by statistics. According to the International Labour Organization, it accounts for 30-40% of the world's fatal injuries. In The European Union around thirteen employees out of every one hundred thousands are killed each year. Hence, construction site safety is a matter of global concern. However it is not easy to describe and define how to deport safely at some actual site because the workers are exposed to many safety risks varying in con^nection with conditions of the construction realization and with technologies using. The paper provides a brief knowledge from the study comparing the construction safety in Europe and North America referencing to presented statistics. Over 27,000 unique trips over 2 weeks on a 15-mile interstate construction work zone near Lebanon, IN were analyzed. Spatial analysis over a 0.2-mi segment before and after the posted speed limit signs showed that the regulatory signs had no statistical impact on reducing speeds. The interview and questionnaire method were used in this research. Randomly distributed questionnaire technique was applied to select samples of 390 various construction practitioners consisting of owners, consultants and main contractors to evaluate the severity of the 43 identified dispute factors. This survey found that contract and specification dispute problem was the highest concern among four main dispute problems for construction practitioners. The insufficient working drawing details factor was ranked as the highest overall severity index. The results of the survey also indicated that both domestic and international funded public projects faced moderately severe dispute level among construction team.展开更多

By combing the characteristics of drilling in Antarctic region, performance requirements on drilling fluid for Antarctic low temperature conditions, and research progress of low temperature drilling fluid, current pro...By combing the characteristics of drilling in Antarctic region, performance requirements on drilling fluid for Antarctic low temperature conditions, and research progress of low temperature drilling fluid, current problems of the drilling fluid have been sorted out, and the development direction of the drilling fluid has been pointed out. Drilling in the Antarctic region mainly includes drilling in snow, ice and subglacial rock formations, and drilling in Antarctic low temperature conditions will face problems in four aspects:(1) low temperature and large temperature changes in the drilling area;(2) likely well leakage and drillstring-sticking in the snow layer, creep in the ice layer, ice chip gathering jamming in the warm ice layer, well wall collapse in the subglacial rock formations;(3) lack of infrastructure and difficulty in logistical support;(4) fragile environment and low carrying capacity. After years of development, progresses have been made on low-temperature drilling fluids for the Antarctic region. Low-temperature petroleum-based drilling fluid, ethanol/ethylene glycol-based drilling fluid, ester-based drilling fluid and silicone oil-based drilling fluid have been developed. However, these drilling fluids have problems such as insufficient low-temperature tolerance, low environmental performance and weak wellbore stability, etc. In order to meet the performance requirements of drilling fluid under low-temperature conditions in Antarctic region, the working mechanisms of low-temperature drilling fluid must be examined in depth;environment-friendly low-temperature base fluid of drilling fluid and related additives must be developed to prepare environmentally friendly low temperature drilling fluid systems;multi-functional integrated adjustment method for drilling fluid must be worked out to ensure well wall stability and improve cutting-carry capacity when drilling ice formations and ice-rock interlayers;and on-site support operation codes must be established to provide technical support for Antarctic drilling.展开更多

文摘To meet the requirements of specifications,intelligent optimization of steel bar blanking can improve resource utilization and promote the intelligent development of sustainable construction.As one of the most important building materials in construction engineering,reinforcing bars(rebar)account for more than 30%of the cost in civil engineering.A significant amount of cutting waste is generated during the construction phase.Excessive cutting waste increases construction costs and generates a considerable amount of CO_(2)emission.This study aimed to develop an optimization algorithm for steel bar blanking that can be used in the intelligent optimization of steel bar engineering to realize sustainable construction.In the proposed algorithm,the integer linear programming algorithm was applied to solve the problem.It was combined with the statistical method,a greedy strategy was introduced,and a method for determining the dynamic critical threshold was developed to ensure the accuracy of large-scale data calculation.The proposed algorithm was verified through a case study;the results confirmed that the rebar loss rate of the proposed method was reduced by 9.124%compared with that of traditional distributed processing of steel bars,reducing CO_(2)emissions and saving construction costs.As the scale of a project increases,the calculation quality of the optimization algorithmfor steel bar blanking proposed also increases,while maintaining high calculation efficiency.When the results of this study are applied in practice,they can be used as a sustainable foundation for building informatization and intelligent development.
文摘Construction industry is a generally risky business; it remains one of the most dirty, difficult and dangerous with poor working conditions. Despite recent efforts to improve site safety, it still accounts for a disproportionate number of occupational-related fatalities what is supported by statistics. According to the International Labour Organization, it accounts for 30-40% of the world's fatal injuries. In The European Union around thirteen employees out of every one hundred thousands are killed each year. Hence, construction site safety is a matter of global concern. However it is not easy to describe and define how to deport safely at some actual site because the workers are exposed to many safety risks varying in con^nection with conditions of the construction realization and with technologies using. The paper provides a brief knowledge from the study comparing the construction safety in Europe and North America referencing to presented statistics. There are also analyzed, described and systemized the principal groups of construction safety risks; described the interdependencies among safety risks, affecting by spatial, technological and time parameters of the building process, as well as by the site conditions.

High speeds in construction zones are a well-documented risk factor that increases <span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">the </span></span></span></span></span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;"><span style="font-family:Verdana;">frequency and severity of crashes. This study used connected vehicle data to evaluate the spatial and temporal impact that regulatory signs, speed feedback displays, and construction site geometry had on vehicle speed. Over 27,000 unique trips over 2 weeks on a 15-mile interstate construction work zone near Lebanon, IN were analyzed. Spatial analysis over a 0.2-mi segment before and after the posted speed limit signs showed that the regulatory signs had no statistical impact on reducing speeds. 文摘The objectives of this research were to identify and appraising the common dispute problems in domestic and international funded public works projects. The interview and questionnaire method were used in this research. Randomly distributed questionnaire technique was applied to select samples of 390 various construction practitioners consisting of owners, consultants and main contractors to evaluate the severity of the 43 identified dispute factors. This survey found that contract and specification dispute problem was the highest concern among four main dispute problems for construction practitioners. The insufficient working drawing details factor was ranked as the highest overall severity index. The results of the survey also indicated that both domestic and international funded public projects faced moderately severe dispute level among construction team.

文摘By combing the characteristics of drilling in Antarctic region, performance requirements on drilling fluid for Antarctic low temperature conditions, and research progress of low temperature drilling fluid, current problems of the drilling fluid have been sorted out, and the development direction of the drilling fluid has been pointed out. Drilling in the Antarctic region mainly includes drilling in snow, ice and subglacial rock formations, and drilling in Antarctic low temperature conditions will face problems in four aspects:(1) low temperature and large temperature changes in the drilling area;(2) likely well leakage and drillstring-sticking in the snow layer, creep in the ice layer, ice chip gathering jamming in the warm ice layer, well wall collapse in the subglacial rock formations;(3) lack of infrastructure and difficulty in logistical support;(4) fragile environment and low carrying capacity. After years of development, progresses have been made on low-temperature drilling fluids for the Antarctic region. Low-temperature petroleum-based drilling fluid, ethanol/ethylene glycol-based drilling fluid, ester-based drilling fluid and silicone oil-based drilling fluid have been developed. However, these drilling fluids have problems such as insufficient low-temperature tolerance, low environmental performance and weak wellbore stability, etc. In order to meet the performance requirements of drilling fluid under low-temperature conditions in Antarctic region, the working mechanisms of low-temperature drilling fluid must be examined in depth;environment-friendly low-temperature base fluid of drilling fluid and related additives must be developed to prepare environmentally friendly low temperature drilling fluid systems;multi-functional integrated adjustment method for drilling fluid must be worked out to ensure well wall stability and improve cutting-carry capacity when drilling ice formations and ice-rock interlayers;and on-site support operation codes must be established to provide technical support for Antarctic drilling.
