This effective technique uses variations in the Ce/Yb and Sm/Yb ratios found in mainly volcanic rocks in continental China. The ratios change with the depth of origin consistent with the correlation between lithospheric thickness and the Ce/Yb and Sm/Yb ratios found in oceanic basalt. These ratios increase exponentially with the depth of origin, the lithospheric thickness, of a wide variety of Cenozoic volcanic basalt and Paleozoic kimberlite in the North China Craton, northeastern China continent and vicinity. This functional relationship with depth is shown in a plot of the ratios that forms a concordia curve, which is closely expressed by formulas using 8–degree polynomials. These provide a more accurate gage in measuring the lithospheric thickness than the traditional geophysical methods. When applied to volcanic rock of different ages it also reveals how the thickness has changed over time and thus, greatly aids the understanding of the tectonic history. Relations between the COcontent, mineral reactions and pressure in the upper asthenosphere beneath the base of the lithosphere appears to affect the proportions of REE in partial melts and brings about a close correlation between lithospheric thickness and the Ce/Yb and Sm/Yb ratios in mantle–derived magmatic rock. This thickness gauge, for both continental and oceanic lithosphere, provides a new approach in analyzing the lithospheric thickness in different tectonic settings and geologic times.展开更多

The formulas of temperature distribution inside the lithosphere and the top layer of the asthenosphere, the lithospheric thicknesses to the heat flow and the crustal ages to the heat flow are obtained. The crustal ages and the lithospheric thicknesses of the central basin are calculated. And they are used to draw the lithospheric thicknesses and crustal ages maps of the central basin (in this paper both the central basin and the basin are the central basin of the South China Sea). According to their characteristics, the central basin is divided into three regions. The lithospheric thicknesses, crustal ages and heat flow distribution characteristics are discussed respectively. The formation and evolution of the South China Sea are analysed and it is thought that the South China Sea has undergone three episode-seafloor spreadings.展开更多

The cloud cover in the imagery was masked out manually. Level ice thickness was calculated using MODIS ice surface temperature and an ice surface heat balance equation. Weather forcing data was from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) analyses. The retrieved ice thickness agreed reasonable well with in situ observations from two off-shore oil platforms. The overall bias and the root mean square error of the MODIS ice thickness are -1.4 cm and 3.9 cm, respectively. The MODIS results under cold conditions (air temperature 〈 -10~C) also agree with the estimated ice growth from Lebedev and Zubov models. The MODIS ice thickness is sensitive to the changes of the sea ice and air temperature, in particular when the sea ice is relatively thin. It is less sensitive to the wind speed. Our method is feasible for the Bohai Sea operational ice thickness analyses during cold freezing seasons.展开更多

The flow is caused by non-linear stretching of a sheet. Thermal conductivity of the fluid is assumed to vary linearly with temperature. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with appropriate boundary conditions for various physical parameters. The remaining system of ODEs is solved numerically using a differential transformation method (DTM). The effects of the porous parameter, the wall thickness parameter, the radiation parameter, the thermal conductivity parameter, and the Prandtl number on the flow and temperature profiles are presented. Moreover, the local skin-friction and the Nusselt numbers are presented. Comparison of the obtained numerical results is made with previously published results in some special cases, with good agreement. The results obtained in this paper confirm the idea that DTM is a powerful mathematical tool and can be applied to a large class of linear and non-linear problems in different fields of science and engineering.展开更多

The effects of Mg film thickness on the formation and structure of Mg2Si films were investigated. The results showed that the crystallization quality of Mg2Si films was strongly influenced by the thickness of Mg film. The XRD peak intensity of Mg2Si (220) gradually increased initially and then decreased with increasing Mg film thickness. The XRD peak intensity of Mg2Si (220) reached its maximum when the Mg film of 380 um was used. The thickness of the Mg2Si film annealed at 400℃ for 4 h was approximately 3 times of the Mg film.展开更多

For comparison, three bathymetry models are used: general bathymetric charts of the oceans, SIO V15.1,and BAT_VGG. The results show that BAT_VGG is more suitable for calculating T e than the other two models. T e along the Louisville Ridge was re-evaluated. The southeast of the ridge has a medium Te of 10–20 km, while Te increases dramatically seaward of the Tonga-Kermadec trench as a result of the collision of the Pacific and IndoAustralian plates.展开更多

Thermal vibrational behavior of non-homogeneous rectangular plates of variable thickness having clamped boundary conditions on all the four edges is studied. For non–homogeneity of the plate material, density is assumed to vary linearly in one direction. Using the method of separation of variables, the governing differential equation is solved. An approximate but quite convenient frequency equation is derived by using Rayleigh-Ritz technique with a two-term deflection function. Time period and deflection at different points for the first two modes of vibration are calculated for various values of temperature gradients, non- homogeneity constant, taper constant and aspect ratio. Comparison studies have been carried out with non-homogeneous visco-elastic rectangular plate to establish the accuracy and versatility.展开更多

Thermal effect on vibration of such plate has been taken as one-dimensional distribution in linear form only. An approximate but quiet convenient frequency equation is derived using Rayleigh-Ritz technique with a two-term deflection function. The deflection function is defined by the product of the equations of the prescribed continuous piecewise boundary shape. The non homogeneity of the plate is characterized by taking linear variation of the Young's modulus and parabolically variation of the density of the material. The non homogeneity is assumed to arise due to the variation in the density of the plate material and it is taken as parabolically. Rayleigh Ritz method is used to evaluate the fundamental frequencies. The equations of motion, governing the transverse vibrations of orthotropic trapezoidal plates, are derived with boundary condition clamped-simply supported-clamped-simply supported. Frequencies corresponding to first two modes of vibration are calculated for the trapezoidal plate for various combinations of the parameters of the non-homogeneity, thermal gradient, taper constant and for different values of the aspect ratios and shown by figures. All The results presented here are entirely new and are not found elsewhere. Comparison can only be made for homogeneous plates, and in that cases the results have been compared with those found in the existing literatures and are in excellent agreement.展开更多

The top coat of TBC specimens prepared with TriplexPro?-200 system was controlled by changing the processing parameter and feedstock, showing the various thicknesses and microstructures. A couple of governing partial differential equations were derived based on the thermoelastic theory. Since the governing equations were too involved to solve analytically, a finite volume method was developed to obtain approximations. The thermoelastic behaviors of TBC specimens with the various thicknesses and microstructures were estimated through mathematical approaches with different edge conditions. The results demonstrated that the microstructure and thickness of the top coat, and the edge condition in theoretical analysis were crucial factors to be considered in controlling the thermoelastic characteristics of plasma-sprayed TBCs.展开更多

The variation in Young’s modulus and mass density is the main cause for the occurrence of non-homogeneity in plate’s material. In this consideration, density varies linearly in one direction. The governing differential equations have been derived by Rayleigh-Ritz method in order to attain fundamental frequencies. The solutions of the models are found to be the same. The formation and evolution of the South China Sea are analysed and it is thought that the South China Sea has undergone three episode-seafloor spreadings.

文摘Level ice thickness distribution pattern in the Bohai Sea in the winter of 2009-2010 was investigated in this paper using MODIS night-time thermal infrared imagery. Our method is feasible for the Bohai Sea operational ice thickness analyses during cold freezing seasons.
文摘This article presents a numerical solution for the flow of a Newtonian fluid over an impermeable stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium with the power law surface velocity and variable thickness in the presence of thermal radiation. The results obtained in this paper confirm the idea that DTM is a powerful mathematical tool and can be applied to a large class of linear and non-linear problems in different fields of science and engineering.

文摘Mg films of various thicknesses were deposited on Si(111) substrates at room temperature by resistive thermal evaporation method, and then the Mg/Si samples were annealed at 40 ℃ for 4 h. The thickness of the Mg2Si film annealed at 400℃ for 4 h was approximately 3 times of the Mg film.

文摘Using bathymetry and altimetric gravity anomalies, a 1°×9 1° lithospheric effective elastic thickness(Te) model over the Louisville Ridge and its adjacent regions is calculated using the moving window admittance technique. For comparison, three bathymetry models are used: general bathymetric charts of the oceans, SIO V15.1,and BAT_VGG. The results show that BAT_VGG is more suitable for calculating T e than the other two models. T e along the Louisville Ridge was re-evaluated. The southeast of the ridge has a medium Te of 10–20 km, while Te increases dramatically seaward of the Tonga-Kermadec trench as a result of the collision of the Pacific and IndoAustralian plates.
文摘The analysis presented here is to study the effect of non-homogeneity on thermally induced vibration of orthotropic visco-elastic rectangular plate of linearly varying thickness. Comparison studies have been carried out with non-homogeneous visco-elastic rectangular plate to establish the accuracy and versatility.

文摘Mid-ocean ridge and oceanic transforms are among the most prominent features on the seafloor surface and are crucial for understanding seafloor spreading and plate tectonic dynamics, but the deep structure of the oceanic lithosphere remains poorly understood. The large number of microearthquakes occurring along ridges and transforms provide valuable information for gaining an indepth view of the underlying detailed seismic structures, contributing to understanding geodynamic processes within the oceanic lithosphere.Previous studies have indicated that the maximum depth of microseismicity is controlled by the 600-℃isotherm.However,this perspective is being challenged due to increasing observations of deep earthquakes that far exceed this suggested isotherm along mid-ocean ridges and oceanic transform faults.Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain these deep events, and we suggest that local geodynamic processes(e.g.,magma supply, mylonite shear zone, longlived faults, hydrothermal vents, etc.)likely play a more important role than previously thought.
文摘In this paper, the effect of thermal gradient on the vibration of parallelogram plate with linearly varying thickness in both direction having clamped boundary conditions on all the four edges is analyzed. Thermal effect on vibration of such plate has been taken as one-dimensional distribution in linear form only. An approximate but quiet convenient frequency equation is derived using Rayleigh-Ritz technique with a two-term deflection function. The frequencies corresponding to the first two modes of vibration of a clamped parallelogram plate have been computed for different values of aspect ratio, thermal gradient, taper constants and skew angle. The results have been presented in tabular forms. The results obtained in this study are reduced to that of unheated parallelogram plates of uniform thickness and have generally been compared with the published one.
文摘In this paper, effect of thermal gradient on vibration of trapezoidal plate of varying thickness is studied. Thermal effect and thickness variation is taken as linearly in x-direction. Rayleigh Ritz technique is used to calculate the fundamental frequencies. The frequencies corresponding to the first two modes of vibrations are obtained for a trapezoidal plate for different values of taper constant, thermal gradient and aspect ratio. Results are presented in graphical form.
文摘The present paper deals with the effect of linearly temperature on transverse vibration of non-homogeneous orthotropic trapezoidal plate of parabolically varying thickness. Comparison can only be made for homogeneous plates, and in that cases the results have been compared with those found in the existing literatures and are in excellent agreement.

文摘The thermoelastic behaviors of such as temperature distribution, displacements, and stresses in thermal barrier coatings (TBC) are seriously influenced by top coat thickness and edge conditions. The results demonstrated that the microstructure and thickness of the top coat, and the edge condition in theoretical analysis were crucial factors to be considered in controlling the thermoelastic characteristics of plasma-sprayed TBCs.

文摘Magnetic-liquid double suspension bearing(MLDSB)is a new type of suspension bearing based on electromagnetic suspension and supplemented by hydrostatic supporting.Without affecting the electromagnetic suspension force, the hydrostatic supporting effect is increased, and the real-time coupling of magnetic and liquid supporting can be realized. However, due to the high rotation speed, the rotor part produces eddy current loss, resulting in a large temperature rise and large ther-mal deformation, which makes the oil film thickness deviate from the initial design. The support and bearing characteristics are seriously affected. Therefore, this paper intends to explore the internal effects of eddy current loss of the rotor on the temperature rise and thermal deformation of MLDSB.Firstly, the 2D magnetic flow coupling mathematical model of MLDSB is established, and the eddy current loss distribution characteristics of the rotor are numerically simulated by Maxwell software.Secondly, the internal influence of mapping relationship of structural operating parameters such as input current, coil turns and rotor speed on rotor eddy current loss is revealed, and the changing trend of rotor eddy current loss under different design parameters is explored.Thirdly, the eddy cur-rent loss is loaded into the heat transfer finite element calculation model as a heat source, and the temperature rise of the rotor and its thermal deformation are simulated and analyzed, and the influ-ence of eddy current loss on rotor temperature rise and thermal deformation is revealed. Finally, the pressure-flow curve and the distribution law of the internal flow field are tested by the particle image velocimetry(PIV)system. The results show that eddy current loss increases linearly with the in-crease of coil current, coil turns and rotor speed. The effect of rotational speed on eddy current loss is much higher than that of coil current and coil turns. The maximum temperature rise, minimum temperature rise and maximum thermal deformation of the rotor increase with the increase of eddy current loss. The test results of flow-pressure and internal trace curves are basically consistent with the theoretical simulation, which effectively verifies the correctness of the theoretical simulation. The research results can provide theoretical basis for the design and safe and stable operation of magnetic fluid double suspension bearings.
文摘The present analysis demonstrates the thermal effect on vibrations of a symmetric, non-homoge- neous trapezoidal plate with parabolically varying thickness in both directions. The variation in Young’s modulus and mass density is the main cause for the occurrence of non-homogeneity in plate’s material. In this consideration, density varies linearly in one direction. The governing differential equations have been derived by Rayleigh-Ritz method in order to attain fundamental frequencies. With C-S-C-S boundary condition, a two term deflection function has been considered. The effect of structural parameters such as taper constants, thermal gradient, aspect ratio and non-homogeneity constant has been investigated for first two modes of vibration. The obtained numerical results have been presented in tabular and graphical form.
