The investigated structures were grown by molecular beam epitaxy and characterized by scanning transmission electron microscopy, macro-and micro-photoluminescence. Low temperature macro-photoluminescence experiments indicate three emission bands which depend on the CdTe layer thickness and have different confinement characteristics. Temperature measurements reveal that the lower energy emission band (at 1.48 eV)is associated to defects and bound exciton states, while the main emission at 1.61 eV has a weak 2D character and the higher energy one at 1.71 eV has a well-defined (zero-dimensional, 0D) 0D nature. Micro-photoluminescence measurements show the existence of sharp and strongly circularly polarized (up to 40%) emission lines which can be related to the presence of Mn in the heterostructure. This result opens the possibility of producing photon sources with the typical spin control of the diluted magnetic semiconductors using the low-cost silicon technology.展开更多

This study assessed the split-additions of nitrogen-rich substrate to composting materials and their effect on GHGs emissions as well as the quality of the composts. Nitrogen-rich substrates formulated from pig and goat manure were co-composted with MSW for a 12-weeks period by split adding at mesophilic (˚C) and thermophilic (>50˚C) stages in five different treatments. Representative samples from the compost were taken from each treatment for physicochemical, heavy metals and bacteriological analysis. In-situ CH4, CO2, N2O gas emissions were also analyzed weekly during composting. It was observed that all the treatments showed significant organic matter decomposition, reaching thermophilic temperatures in the first week of composting. The absence affects the suitable agronomic properties. All nitrogen-rich substrate applied at thermophilic stage (Treatment two) recorded the highest N, P and K concentrations of 1.34%, 0.97% and 2.45%, respectively with highest nitrogen retention. In terms of GHG emissions, CO2 was highest at the thermophilic stage when N-rich substrate was added in all treatment, while CH4 was highest in the mesophilic stage with N-rich substrate addition. N2O showed no specific trend in the treatments. Split addition of the N-rich substrate for co-composting of MSW produced compost which is stable, has less nutrient loss and low GHG emissions. Split addition of a nitrogen-rich substrate could be an option for increasing the fertilizer value of MSW compost.展开更多

The effect of TiCl_(4) concentration on the initial deposition of TiO_(2) on mica by atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition(APCVD) was investigated. The precursor concentration significantly affected the deposition and morphology of TiO_(2) grains assembling the film. The deposition time for fully covering the surface of mica decreased from 120 to 10 s as the TiCl_(4) concentration increased from 0.38%to 2.44%. The grain size increased with the TiCl_(4) concentration. The AFM and TEM analysis demonstrated that the aggregation of TiO_(2) clusters at the initial stage finally result to the agglomeration of fine TiO_(2) grains at high TiCl_(4) concentrations. Following the results, it was suggested that the nucleation density and size was easy to be adjusted when the TiCl_(4) concentration is below 0.90%.展开更多

The coalescence, stress evolution, and dislocation annihilation mechanisms in the AlN layer have been investigated. The large voids located on the pattern region were caused by the undesirable parasitic crystallites grown on the sidewalls of the nano-pattern in the early growth stage. The coalescence of the c-plane AlN was hindered by these three-fold crystallites and the special triangle void appeared. The cross-sectional Raman line scan was used to characterize the change of stress with film thickness, which corresponds to the characteristics of different growth stages of AlN. Threading dislocations(TDs) mainly originate from the boundary between misaligned crystallites and the c-plane AlN and the coalescence of two adjacent c-plane AlN crystals, rather than the interface between sapphire and AlN.展开更多

Here by molecular beam epitaxy(MBE) and scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, we investigate the growth kinetics of ultra-thin tellurium(Te) films on SrTiO_(3)(STO)(001). The MBE growth of Te films usually exhibits Volmer–Weber(VW) island growth mode and no a-few-monolayer film with full coverage has been reported. The absence of wetting-layer formation in the VW growth mode of Te on STO(001) is resulted from its low diffusion barriers as well as its relatively higher surface energy compared with those of the substrate and the interface. Here we circumvent these limiting factors and achieve the growth of ultra-thin β-Te films with near-complete coverages by driving the growth kinetics to the extreme condition. There is a critical thickness(3 monolayer) above which the two-dimensional Te films can form on the STO(001) substrate. In addition, the scanning tunneling spectra on the ultra-thin Te film grown on STO exhibits an enormously large forbidden gap compared with that grown on the graphene substrate. Our work establishes the necessary conditions for the growth of ultra-thin materials with similar kinetics and thermodynamics.展开更多

The surface tension of self-rewetting film is considered as a quadratic function of temperature. The long wave hypothesis is used to derive a nonlinear free surface evolution equation of the thin viscoelastic film. Linear stability analysis shows that for a prescribed the viscoelastic coefficient, substrate cooling products instability, while substrate heating remains stability. Furthermore, we analyze the influence of viscoelastic coefficient on RT instability. Results show that the viscoelastic coefficient reinforces the RT instability whether the substrate is heated or cooled. Moreover, we use the line method to numerically simulate the nonlinear evolution equation and systematically examine the space-time variation of the film free surface. The numerical results illustrate that increasing the viscoelastic coefficient can enhance the disturbance amplitude and wave frequency. This means that the viscoelastic coefficient makes the system unstable, which is consistent with result of the linear stability analysis. In addition, the oscillation tends to accumulate downstream of the inclined substrate when the evolution time is long enough. Finally, the variation of film thickness with related parameters for different viscoelastic coefficients is investigated.展开更多

We characterize the thin films by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy, and elucidate thin film epitaxial relationships with the underlying sapphire substrates. The oxygen vacancy concentration of α-Ga_(2)O_(3) thin films on m-plane and r-plane sapphire substrates are higher than α-Ga_(2)O_(3) thin film on a-plane sapphire substrates. All three thin films have a high transmission of over 80% in the visible and near-ultraviolet regions, and their optical bandgaps stay around 5.02–5.16 eV. Hall measurements show that the α-Ga_(2)O_(3) thin film grown on r-plane sapphire has the highest conductivity of 2.71 S/cm, which is at least 90 times higher than the film on a-plane sapphire. A similar orientation-dependence is seen in their activation energy as revealed by temperature-dependent conductivity measurements, with 0.266, 0.079, and 0.075eV for the film on a-, m-, r-plane, respectively. The origin of the distinct transport behavior of films on differently oriented substrates is suggested to relate with the distinct evolution of oxygen vacancies at differently oriented substrates. This study provides insights for the substrate selection when growing α-Ga_(2)O_(3) films with tunable transport properties.展开更多

文摘Melamine is one of the most frequently detected adulterants in dairy products. The current study proposes a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)-based analytical tool for fast and reliable screening of melamine in bovine milk.A hand-held Raman spectrometer was used in conjunction with a substrate composed of silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)that was 2D printed onto glass fiber(GF)filter paper.Under optimized conditions,a sensitive and fingerprint-like signal at 674 cm^(-1) was obtained. The AgNPs/GF substrate exhibited high sensitivity to melamine in milk down to 1.9498×10^(-5)mg/mL,which is well below the USA and EU safety limits(2.5×10^(-3)mg/mL).Remarkably,the proposed technology was also highly reproducible, showing spot-to-spot and block-to-block variations below 3.3%and 4.9%at 674 cm^(-1) in Raman intensity, respectively. The characteristic peak intensity and concentration of melamine showed an acceptable linear relationship(R^(2)=0.9909)within the range of 0.0001-1 mg/mL.Overall,the method established in this study can provide an efficient and effective method for the quantitative target screening and detection of melamine in dairy products.

文摘The emergence of Li–Mg hybrid batteries has been receiving attention, owing to their enhanced electrochemical kinetics and reduced overpotential.Nevertheless, the persistent challenge of uneven Mg electrodeposition remains a significant impediment to their practical integration.Herein,we developed an ingenious approach that centered around epitaxial electrocrystallization and meticulously controlled growth of magnesium crystals on a specialized MgMOF substrate. The chosen MgMOF substrate demonstrated a robust affinity for magnesium and showed minimal lattice misfit with Mg,establishing the crucial prerequisites for successful heteroepitaxial electrocrystallization. Moreover, the incorporation of periodic electric fields and successive nanochannels within the MgMOF structure created a spatially confined environment that considerably promoted uniform magnesium nucleation at the molecular scale.Taking inspiration from the“blockchain”concept prevalent in the realm of big data,we seamlessly integrated a conductive polypyrrole framework, acting as a connecting“chain,”to interlink the“blocks”comprising the MgMOF cavities. This innovative design significantly amplified charge‐transfer efficiency, thereby increasing overall electrochemical kinetics. The resulting architecture(MgMOF@PPy@CC)served as an exceptional host for heteroepitaxial Mg electrodeposition, showcasing remarkable electrostripping/plating kinetics and excellent cycling performance.Surprisingly,a symmetrical cell incorporating the MgMOF@PPy@CC electrode demonstrated impressive stability even under ultrahigh current density conditions(10mAcm–2),maintaining operation for an extended 1200 h,surpassing previously reported benchmarks.Significantly,on coupling the MgMOF@PPy@CC anode with a Mo_(6)S_(8) cathode, the assembled battery showed an extended lifespan of 10,000 cycles at 70 C,with an outstanding capacity retention of 96.23%.This study provides a fresh perspective on the rational design of epitaxial electrocrystallization driven by metal–organic framework(MOF)substrates, paving the way toward the advancement of cuttingedge batteries.

文摘The successful utilization of an eco-friendly and biocompatible parylene-C substrate for high-performance solution-processed double-walled carbon nanotube(CNT)electrode-based perovskite solar cells(PSCs)was demonstrated.Through the use of a novel inversion transfer technique, vertical separation of the binders from the CNTs was induced, rendering a stronger p-doping effect and thereby a higher conductivity of the CNTs.The resulting foldable devices exhibited a power conversion efficiency of 18.11%,which is the highest reported among CNT transparent electrode-based PSCs to date, and withstood more than 10,000 folding cycles at a radius of 0.5 mm,demonstrating unprecedented mechanical stability.Furthermore, solar modules were fabricated using entirely laser scribing processes to assess the potential of the solution-processable nanocarbon electrode.Notably, this is the only one to be processed entirely by the laser scribing process and to be biocompatible as well as eco-friendly among the previously reported nonindium tin oxide-based perovskite solar modules.

文摘This work shows that despite a lattice mismatch of almost 20%, CdMnTe/CdTe/CdMnTe heterostructures grown directly on Si(111) have surprisingly good optical emission properties. This result opens the possibility of producing photon sources with the typical spin control of the diluted magnetic semiconductors using the low-cost silicon technology.
文摘Composting as a solution to the increasing generation of municipal solid waste (MSW), also contribute to GHGs emission when not controlled and could lack some basic nutrients, especially nitrogen. Split addition of a nitrogen-rich substrate could be an option for increasing the fertilizer value of MSW compost.

文摘Phonon polaritons(PhPs)exhibit directional in-plane propagation and ultralow losses in van der Waals(vdW)crystals, offering new possibilities for controlling the flow of light at the nanoscale. However, these PhPs,including their directional propagation, are inherently determined by the anisotropic crystal structure of the host materials.Although in-plane anisotropic PhPs can be manipulated by twisting engineering, such as twisting individual vdW slabs, dynamically adjusting their propagation presents a significant challenge. The limited application of the twisted bilayer structure in bare films further restricts its usage. In this study,we present a technique in which anisotropic PhPs supported by bare biaxial vdW slabs can be actively tuned by modifying their local dielectric environment.Excitingly,we predict that the iso-frequency contour of PhPs can be reoriented to enable propagation along forbidden directions when the crystal is placed on a substrate with a moderate negative permittivity.Besides,we systematically investigate the impact of polaritonic coupling on near-field radiative heat transfer(NFRHT)between heterostructures integrated with different substrates that have negative permittivity. Our main findings reveal that through the analysis of dispersion contour and photon transmission coefficient, the excitation and reorientation of the fundamental mode facilitate increased photon tunneling, thereby enhancing heat transfer between heterostructures.Conversely, the annihilation of the fundamental mode hinders heat transfer.Furthermore,we find the enhancement or suppression of radiative energy transport depends on the relative magnitude of the slab thickness and the vacuum gap width. Finally, the effect of negative permittivity substrates on NFRHT along the[001]crystalline direction ofα-MoO3 is considered. The spectral band where the excited fundamental mode resulting from the negative permittivity substrates is shifted to the first Reststrahlen Band(RB 1)ofα-MoO_(3) and is widened, resulting in more significant enhancement of heat flux from RB 1.We anticipate our results will motivate new direction for dynamical tunability of the PhPs in photonic devices.

文摘The performance of pearlescent pigment significantly affected by the grain size and the roughness of deposited film. Following the results, it was suggested that the nucleation density and size was easy to be adjusted when the TiCl_(4) concentration is below 0.90%.

文摘To improve the thermoelectric converting performance in applications such as power generation, reutilization of heat energy, refrigeration, and ultrasensitive sensors in scramjet engines,a thermoelectric film/substrate system is widely designed and applied, whose interfacial behavior dominates the strength and service life of thermoelectric devices.Herein,a theoretical model of a thermoelectric film bonded to a graded substrate is proposed. The interfacial shear stress, the normal stress in the thermoelectric film, and the stress intensity factors affected by various material and geometric parameters are comprehensively studied. It is found that adjusting the inhomogeneity parameter of the graded substrate, thermal conductivity, and current density of the thermoelectric film can reduce the risk of interfacial failure of the thermoelectric film/graded substrate system.Selecting a stiffer and thicker thermoelectric film is advantageous to the reliability of the thermoelectric film/graded substrate system. The results should be of great guiding significance for the present and upcoming applications of thermoelectric materials in various fields.

文摘A crack-free AlN film with 4.5 μm thickness was grown on a 2-inch hole-type nano-patterned sapphire substrates(NPSSs) by hydride vapor phase epitaxy(HVPE). Threading dislocations(TDs) mainly originate from the boundary between misaligned crystallites and the c-plane AlN and the coalescence of two adjacent c-plane AlN crystals, rather than the interface between sapphire and AlN.

文摘Materials' properties may differ in the thin-film form, especially for epitaxial ultra-thin films, where the substrates play an important role in their deviation from the bulk quality. Our work establishes the necessary conditions for the growth of ultra-thin materials with similar kinetics and thermodynamics.

文摘Rayleigh–Taylor(RT) instability of gravity-driven viscoelastic self-rewetting film flowing under an inclined substrate uniformly heated or cooled is considered. Finally, the variation of film thickness with related parameters for different viscoelastic coefficients is investigated.

文摘This study explores the epitaxial relationship and electrical properties of α-Ga_(2)O_(3) thin films deposited on a-plane, mplane, and r-plane sapphire substrates. This study provides insights for the substrate selection when growing α-Ga_(2)O_(3) films with tunable transport properties.
文摘ZnO films with c -axis parallel to the substrate are reported.ZnO films are synthesized by solid-source chemical vapor deposition,a novel CVD technique, using zinc acetate dihydrate (solid) as the source material. The properties are characterized by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy and transmission spectra. The parallel oriented ZnO films with mixed orientation for (100) and (110) planes are achieved on glass at the substrate temperature of 200℃ and the source temperature of 280℃,and a qualitative explanation is given for the forming of the mixed orientation.AFM images show that the surface is somewhat rough for the parallel oriented ZnO films. The transmission spectrum exhibits a high transmittance of about 85% in the visible region and shows an optical band gap about 3.25eV at room temperature.
