The key idea of the prediction-correction ALE FEM is elaborated in detail. Accordingly, the strategy of mesh quality control, one of the key enabling techniques for the 3D bulk forming process numerical simulation by the prediction-correction ALE FEM is carefully investigated, and the algorithm for hexahedral element refinement is formulated based on the mesh distortion energy. 展开更多

According to the Gibbs free energy difference between liquid and crystal,a thermodynamic glass-forming ability(GFA) parameter related to characteristic temperatures,onset crystallization temperature(Tx)and liquidus temperature(Tl),was proposed for evaluating the GFA of bulk metallic glasses(BMGs).The new parameter defined asω=Tl(Tl+Tx)/(Tx(Tl-Tx))has good correlation with the critical section thickness(Zc)of Ca-Mg-Cu BMGs.Being verified by the glasses data,including oxide glasses,which were used to validate the former GFA parameters,ωis one of the most reliable and applicable GFA parameters among Trg(=Tg/Tl), γ(=Tx/(Tl+Tg)),α(=Tx/Tl),δ(=Tx/(Tl-Tg),and so on.Finally,predicting GFA of Cu-Ag-Zr-Ti and Cu-Zr-Ti-Al BMGs usingωwas compared with the experimental results. 展开更多

Bulk amorphous Cu52.5Ti30Zr11.5Ni6 and Cu53.1Ti31.4Zr9.5Ni6 alloys with a high glass forming ability can be quenched into single amorphous rods with a diameter of 5 mm, and exhibit a high fracture strength of 2 212 MPa and 2 184 MPa under compressive condition, respectively. The stress—strain curves show nearly 2% elastic strain limit, yet display no appreciable macroscopic plastic deformation prior to the catastrophic fracture due to highly localized shear bands. The present work shows clearly evidence of molten droplets besides well-developed vein patterns typical of bulk metallic glasses on the fracture surface, suggesting that localized melting induced by adiabatic heating may occur during the final failure event. 展开更多

The bulk Fe<sup>60 CoxZr<sup>10 Mo5W2B<sup>23-x (x=1, 3, 5, 7, 9) amorphous rods with diameters of 1.5 mm were successfully prepared by copper mold casting method with the low purity raw materials. The amorphous and crystalline states, and thermal parameters, such as the glass transition temperature (Tg), the initial crystallization temperature (Tx), the supercooled liquid region (ΔTx=Tx-Tg), the reduced glass transition temperature T<sup>rg (Tg/Tm, Tm: the onset temperature of melting of the alloy, and Tg/Tl, Tl: the finished temperature of melting of the alloy) were investigated by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis. Glass forming ability of Fe<sup>60 CoxZr<sup>10 Mo5W2B<sup>23-x (x=1,3,5,7,9) bulk metallic glasses has been studied. According to the results, the alloy (x=7) with the highest T<sup>rg (Tg/Tl=0.607, Tg/Tl=0.590) value, has the strongest glass forming ability among these alloys because its composition is near eutectic composition. The wide supercooled liquid region over 72 K indicates the high thermal stability for this alloy system. This bulk metallic glass exhibits quite high strength (Hv 1020). The success of production of the Fe-based bulk metallic glass with industrial materials is of great significance for the future progress of basic research and practical application. 展开更多

The results show that the thermal stability of the alloys decreases with the addition of Ce. It has the best glass-forming ability when x=25, whose calculated values can reach about 30 mm in diameter. The effect of Ce element could be explained on the view of Miedema’s theory and elec- tronegativity difference of amorphous alloys. 展开更多

The Gibbs free energy differences between the supercooled liquid and the crystalline mixture for the (Zr_(52.5)Ti_5Al_(10)-Ni_(14.6)Cu_(17.9))_((100-x)/100)Sn_x (x=0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) glass forming alloys are estimated by introducing the equationproposed by Thompson, Spaepen and Turnbull. It can be seen that the Gibbs free energy differences decrease firstas the increases of Sn addition smaller than 3, then followed by a decrease due to the successive addition of Snlarger than 3, indicating that the thermal stabilities of these glass forming alloys increase first and then followed by adecrease owing to the excessive addition of Sn. Furthermore, the activation energy of Zr_(52.5)Ti_5Al_(10)Ni_(14.6)Cu_(17.9) and(Zr_(52.5)Ti_5Al_(10)Ni_(14.6)Cu_(17.9))_(0.97)Sn_3 was evaluated by Kissinger equation. It is noted that the Sn addition increases theactivation energies for glass transition and crystallization, implying that the higher thermal stability can be obtainedby appropriate addition of Sn. 展开更多

In order to reveal the appearance of the clothing prototype on the human body,the characteristics of the human body’s structure above the waist section were studied.Based on the experimental data of the fit prototype,three-dimensional prototypes features were comparatively analyzed.And then objectively evaluating the relationship was conducted between the planar structure lines of different prototypes and the human body.The results showed that the prototypes analyzed basically conformed to the size of the human body.However,when they were worn on the human body,there were problems in the structure and forming.The main reason was that the side seam was skewed to different degrees.The results of this study provide reference for many practitioners to choose prototypes. 展开更多

BACKGROUND: The accurate measurements of various data of the bone diameters of foramen ovale of living person can change the methods of puncturing trigeminal gasserian ganglion via foramen ovale for treating trifacial neuralgia from the experience of puncture operator only to puncture by taking the objective data of measurement as the evidence, which is good for improving the accuracy of puncturing trigeminal ganglion and reducing side effects. OBJECTIVE : To observe the forms of foramen ovales in healthy adults displayed by volume rendering and multi-planar reconstruction after three-dimensional spiral CT thin-slice scan of skull base, and measure the longitudinal diameter and transverse diameter. DESIGN : A repetitive observation and measurement SETTINGS : Department of Neurosurgery and Department of Medical Imaging, Foshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. PARTICIPANTS: Fifty healthy adults (100 sides), who were examined with three-dimensional spiral CT scan, were randomly selected from the Department of Medical Imaging, Foshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2005 to January 2006, including 26 males and 24 females, aged 25-68 years with an average of 48 years old. They were all informed and agreed with the examination. METHODS : The subjects were examined with the Philips 16-slice spiral CT-Mx 8000 IDT CT apparatus (Philips Company, Holland), the scanning ranged from 2 cm below the canthomeatal line to the level of suprasellar cistem. The width of collimator was 0.75 mm, pitch was 0.663; tube current was 350 mA, voltage was 120 kV, resolution was 512×512 matrix; slice thickness of reconstruction was 1 mm, and interval was 0.5 mm. After the three-dimensional spiral CT thin-slice scan of skull base, the image post-processing techniques including volume rendering and multi-planar reconstruction were applied to observe the forms of foramen ovales, and measure the size, longitudinal diameter and transverse diameter of the foramen ovales. The figures of the foramen ovales were drawn with mouse along the boundary of bone porous margin and soft tissue. According to the indications, the diameters were measured with computer to observe the forms of foramen ovales. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES : The longitudinal diameter, transverse diameter and form of foramen ovales were observed. RESULTS: All the 50 healthy adults (100 sides) were involved in the analysis of results. (1) It was observed in the volume rendering images that foramen ovales had four forms of oval shape (77 sides), kidney shape (12 sides), round shape (7 sides), ribbon shape (4 sides). (2) The longitudinal diameters of left and right foramen ovales were (7.67±1.32) and (7.98±1.45) mm, and the transverse diameters were (4.04±0.83), (4.09±1.07) mm; There was no obvious difference between left and right longitudinal diameters (t = 1.63, P = 0.11 ), and left and right transverse diameters were close (t = 0.45, P= 0.65). CONCLUSION : The non-invasive techniques of volume rendering and multi-planar reconstruction after three-dimensional spiral CT thin-slice scan can clearly display the formand size of foramen ovale in healthy adults. 展开更多

In this paper, we investigate the performance of the bulk fin field effect transistor (FinFET) through a three- dimensional (3D) full band Monte Carlo simulator with quantum correction. Several scattering mechanisms, such as the acoustic and optical phonon scattering, the ionized impurity scattering, the impact ionization scattering and the surface roughness scattering are considered in our simulator. The effects of the substrate bias and the surface roughness scattering near the Si/SiO2 interface on the performance of bulk FinFET are mainly discussed in our work. Our results show that the on-current of bulk FinFET is sensitive to the surface roughness and that we can reduce the substrate leakage current by modulating the substrate bias voltage. 展开更多

Starting with Zr of two different purities, Ti-based bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) with a nominal composition of Ti40Zr25Cu12Ni3Be20 were prepared. The effect of the addition of yttrium at levels of 0.2 at.%, 0.4 at.%, 0.5 at.%, 0.6 at.%, and 1 at.% on the glass forming ability (GFA) of the alloy has been investigated by means of metallography, X-ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimetry. Experimental data in-dicates that high impurity content dramatically reduces the glass forming ability. Microalloying with 0.5 at.% Y is effective in suppressing the crystalline phase formation and alleviating the detrimental effect of oxygen in the low-purity alloy. On the contrary, in the alloy contain-ing high-purity element, the effective yttrium addition is less than 0.4 at.%. The results indicate that the beneficial effect of the optimum dopants is mainly due to scavenging the oxygen impurity via the formation of innocuous phase. 展开更多

The thermodynamic model of multicomponent chemical short range order (MCSRO) was established in order to evaluate the glass forming ability (GFA) of ternary alloys. Comprehensive numerical calculations using MSCRO software were conducted to obtain the composition dependence of the MCSRO undercooling in Zr Ni Cu, Zr Si Cu and Pd Si Cu ternary systems. By the MCSRO undercooling principle, the composition range of Zr Ni Cu system with optimum GFA is determined to be 62.5 ~ 75 Zr, 5~ 20 Cu, 12.5 ~ 25 Ni ( n (Ni)/ n (Cu)=1~5). The TTT curves of Zr Ni Cu system were also calculated based on the MCSRO model. The critical cooling rates for Zr based alloy with deep MSCRO undercooling are estimated to be as low as 100?K/s, which is consistent with the practical cooling rate in the preparation of Zr based bulk metallic glass (BMG). The calculation also illustrates that the easy glass forming systems such as Pd based alloys exhibit an extraordinary deep MCSRO undercooling. It is shown that the thermodynamic model of MCSRO provides an effective method for the alloy designing of BMG. 展开更多

We investigated the effects of heating rate on the process parameters of superplastic forming for Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5 by differential scanning calorimetry. The continuous heating and isothermal annealing analyses suggested that the temperatures of glass transition and onset crystallization are heating rate-dependent in the supercooled liquid region. Then, the time-temperature-transformation diagram under different heating rates indicates that increasing the heating rate can lead to an increase of the incubation time at the same anneal temperature in the supercooled liquid region. Based on the Arrhenius relationship, we discovered that the incubation time increases by 1.08-1.11 times with double increase of the heating rate at the same anneal temperature, and then verified it by the data of literatures and the experimental results. The obtained curve of the max available incubation time reveals that the incubation time at a certain anneal temperature in the supercooled liquid region is not infinite, and will increase with increasing heating rate until this temperature shifts out of the supercooled liquid region because of exceeding critical heating rate. It is concluded that heating rate must be an important processing parameter of superplastic forming for Zr55Cu30Al10Ni5. 展开更多

Bulk metallic glass (BMG) formation was explored in the Fe-B-Si-Nb alloy system though combined use of the atomic cluster line approach and the minor alloying strategy. The basic ternary compositions in the Fe-B-Si system were determined by the intersection points of two cluster lines, namely, Fe-B cluster to Si and Fe-Si cluster to B. 3at% -4at% Nb was added to the quaternary Fe-B-Si-Nb alloy. The casting experiments revealed that good glass-forming ability (GFA) occurred at the (Fe73.4Si8.2B18.4)96Nb4 composition, and 3-mm diameter BMG samples were made. The glass transition temperature (Tg), crystallization temperature (Tx), and supercooled liquid region (△Tx=Tx-Tg) of this BMG were measured to be 866, 889, and 23 K, respectively. The BMG shows a high Vickers hardness of about Hv 1164, a Young's modulus of 180 GPa, and a good corrosion resistance in the solutions of 1 mol/L HCl and 3wt% NaCl. 展开更多

Deformation behavior,temperature evolution and coupled effects have a significant influence on forming process and quality of component formed,which are very complex in forming process of aluminum alloy 7075 cross valve under multi-way loading due to the complexity of loading path and the multiplicity of associated processing parameters.A model of the process was developed under DFEORM-3D environment based on the coupled thermo-mechanical finite element method.The comparison between two process models,the conventional isothermal process model and the non-isothermal process model developed in this study,was carried out,and the results indicate that the thermal events play an important role in the aluminum alloy forming process under multi-way loading.The distributions and evolutions of the temperature field and strain filed are obtained by non-isothermal process simulation.The plastic zone and its extension in forming process of cross valve were analyzed.The results may provide guidelines for the determination of multi-way loading forming scheme and loading conditions of the forming cross valve components. 展开更多

The formation of bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) in ternary Cu-Zr-Ti system was investigated by a copper mold casting method. The nature of the amorphous phase was verified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was demonstrated that the BMGs could be formed in a broad composition range in this system. Cu50Zr42.5Ti7.5, Cu60Zr27.5Ti12.5, Cu60Zr30Ti10 and Cu60Zr32.5Ti7.5 alloys exhibit strong glass-forming ability (GFA), and fully glassy rods of 5 mm in diameter can be obtained. In the center region of the ternary diagram, however, the GFA of the alloys was degraded due to the presence of Laves phase. The degradation of the GFA results from easy nucleation of the Laves phase in the undercooled liquid. 展开更多

Key step of exploiting a new type BMG (Bulk Metallic Glass) is quickly judging GFA (Glass Forming Ability) of the alloys. The mole melting heats of BMGs are calculated using the weighted averages principle. The reliability and limitation of Trg criterion for GFA are discussed. The reason why Trg of BMGs is larger than 0.5 is discussed. Two new criteria for GFA, ΔHmg and ΔGg, are proposed. GFA sequence of BMGs is calculated using the ΔHmg criterion, the result agrees with that of A. Inoue and the Rc criterion. Furthermore, as an example, the Rc of the alloys developed by Chuang DONG et al is calculated using the ΔHmg and ΔGg. The ascending sequence of these alloys calculated with the ΔHmg criterion agrees with that of Chuang DONG et al. On the contrary, the result by the ΔGg criterion is in contrary with Chuang DONG et al, indicating that the ΔHmg criterion is better and more convenient than the ΔGg criterion. Calculation showed that the optimum ΔHmg is -15.16 kJ/mol. 展开更多

Nd55-x Al10+x Fe15 (x =0, 5, 10) bulk glass-forming alloys with distinct glass transition in differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) traces were obtained by suction casting, The glass forming ability (GFA) of the alloys was investigated. It was found that the reduced glass transition temperature (Trg) and the parameter γ of the alloys increased with the increasing concentration of Al. The glass formation enthalpy of the alloys was calculated based on Miedema's model, and it was suggested that the GFA of the alloys could be enhanced by the decrease of the glass formation enthalpy with Al additions. 展开更多
