The axial compressive load was applied step by step and each creep stage was kept for over several days. Test results show that: (1) The lateral deformation of rock specimens is 2-3 times the axial compressive deformation and accelerates drastically before damage, which may be employed as an indicator to predict the excavation-induced instability of rocks. (2) The resultant deformation changes from compression to expansion when the Poisson's ratio is larger than 0.5, indicating the starting point of damage. (3) In the step-loading stages, the Poisson's ratio approximately remains constant; under constantly imposed load, the Poisson's ratio changes with elapsed time, growing continuously before the specimen is damaged. (4) When the applied load reaches a certain threshold value, the rock deteriorates with time, and the strength of rocks approximately has a negative exponent relation with time. (5) The failure modes of the deep marble are different in long- and short-term loading conditions. Under the condition of short-term loading, the specimen presents a mode of tensile failure; while under the condition of long-term loading, the specimen presents a mode of shear failure, followed by tensile failure.展开更多

The solution to a drinking bird equation of motion manifests itself the transition from thermodynamic equilibrium to nonequilibrium irreversible states. The independent solution signifying a nonequilibrium thermal state seems to be constructed as if two independent bifurcation solutions are synthesized, and so, the solution is tentatively termed as the bifurcation-integration solution. The bifurcation-integration solution expresses the transition from mechanical and thermodynamic equilibrium to a nonequilibrium irreversible state, which is explicitly shown by the nonlinear differential equation with time-dependent coefficients (NDE-TC). The analysis established a new theoretical approach to nonequilibrium irreversible states, thermomechanical dynamics (TMD). The TMD method enables one to obtain thermodynamically consistent and time-dependent progresses of thermodynamic quantities, by employing the bifurcation-integration solutions of NDE-TC. We hope that the basic properties of bifurcation-integration solutions will be studied and investigated further in mathematics, physics, chemistry and nonlinear sciences in general.展开更多

At first we derive the equation of motion in finite temperature, which is found to be same expression as Heisenberg equation of motion except for the c-number. Based on this equation, we construct numerical method to estimate time-dependent physical properties in finite temperature precisely without using analytical procedures such as Keldysh formalism. Since our approach is so simple and is based on the simultaneous differential equations including no terms related to self-energies, computer programming can be easily performed. It is possible to estimate exact time-dependent physical properties, providing that Hamiltonian of the system is taken to be a one-electron picture. Furthermore, we refer to the application to the many body problem and it is numerically possible to calculate physical properties using Hartree Fock approximation. Our numerical method can be applied to the case even when perturbative Hamiltonians are newly introduced or Hamiltonian shows complex time-dependent behavior. In this article, at first, we derive the equation of motion in finite temperature. Secondly, for the purpose of verification and of exhibiting the usefulness, we show the derivation of gap equation of superconductivity and of sum rule of electrical conductivity and the application to the many body problem. Finally we apply this method to these two cases: the first case is most simplified resonance charge transfer neutralization of an ion and the second is the same process but impurity potential is newly introduced as perturbative Hamiltonian. Through both cases, it is found that neutralization process is not so sensitive to temperature, however, impurity potential as small as 10 meV strongly influences the neutralization of ion.展开更多

Numerical geo-electrical models are constructed based on the hydrological simulation results of leachate plumes from a highly conceptualized landfill system and the resultant MMR responses are computed using a modified finite difference software MMR2DFD. Three transmitter configurations (i.e., single source, MMR-TE, and MMR-TM modes) and two hydrological models (i.e., uniform and faulted porous media) are considered. Our forward modeling results for the uniform porous medium indicates that the magnetic field components perpendicular to the dominant current flow contain the most information of the underground targets and the MMR-TE mode is an appropriate configuration for detecting contaminant plumes. The modeling experiments for the faulted porous medium also confirm that the MMR method is capable of mapping and monitoring the extent of contaminant plumes in aroundwater systems.展开更多

The time-dependent skin degradation is simulated with a non-linear rheological model capable of simulating tertiary creep, whereby two different pillar failure cases are investigated. The first case is of an isolated pillar in a deep hard rock underground mine and subjected to high stresses. The results show that pillar degradation is limited to the regions near the surface or the skin until two months after ore extraction. Afterwards degradation starts to extend deeper into the pillar, eventually leaving a highly-stressed pillar core due to stress transfer from the failed skin.Rockburst potential indices show that the risk increases exponentially at the core as time goes by. It is then demonstrated that the progressive skin degradation cannot be simulated with conventional strain-softening model assuming brittle failure. The parametric study with respect to the degree of heterogeneity reveals that heterogeneity is key to the occurrence of progressive skin degradation. The second case investigated in this study is pillar failure taking place in a very long period. Such failure becomes significantly important when assessing the risk for ground subsidence caused by pillar collapse in an abandoned mine. The analysis results demonstrate that the employed non-linear rheological model can simulate gradual skin degradation taking place over several hundred years. The percentage of damage zone volume within the pillar is merely 1% after a lapse of one days and increases to 50% after one hundred years, indicating a high risk for pillar collapse in the long term. The vertical displacements within the pillar also indicate the risk of subsidence. The proposed method is suitable for evaluating the risk of ground surface subsidence above an abandoned mine.展开更多

The thixotropy model is a combination of a viscoelastic-component and a postulated kinetics process of structure change, which is constituted in terms of the indirect microstructural approach usually adopted in the characterization of thixotropy. The descriptions of the thixotropy model on both the thixotropy-loop tests and the startup test show good agreement with the experimental values, indicating the good capability of the model in characterizing the time-dependent nonlinear viscoelastic. The stress overshoot phenomenon and the stress relaxation after cessation of the thixotropy loop test can be described well by the model, whereas both of the typical viscoelastic phenomena could not be described in our previous work with a variant Huang model.展开更多

文摘A brittle creep and time-dependent fracturing process model of rock is established by incorporating the stress corrosion model into discrete element method to analyze the creep behavior and microcrack evolution in brittle rocks at a micro-scale level.Experimental validation of the model is performed, followed by numerical simu-lations to investigate the creep properties and microcrack evolution in rocks under single-stage loading,multi-stage loading, and confining pressure,at various constant stress levels. The results demonstrate that as the stress level increases in single-stage creep simulations, the time-to-failure progressively decreases. The growth of microcracks during uniaxial creep occurs in three stages, with tensile microcracks being predominant and the spatial distribution of microcracks becoming more dispersed at higher stress levels. In multi-stage loadingunloading simulations, microcracks continue to form during the unloading stage, indicating cumulative damage resulting from increased axial stress.Additionally, the creep behaviour of rocks under confining pressure is not solely determined by the magnitude of the confining pressure, but is also influenced by the magnitude of the axial stress. The findings contribute to a better understanding of rock deformation and failure processes under different loading conditions, and they can be valuable for applications in rock mechanics and rock engineering.

文摘The time-dependent resilience of an in-service aging structure provides quantitative measure of the structural ability to prepare for, adapt to,withstand and recover from disruptive events.Resilience models have been proposed in the literature to evaluate the resilience of aging structures subjected to discrete load processes, which are, however, not applicable to handle resilience problems considering continuous load processes. In this paper,a new method is developed to evaluate the time-dependent resilience of aging structures subjected to a continuous load process. The proposed method serves as the complement of the existing resilience models addressing discrete load processes, and takes into account the aging effects of the structural resistance/capacity and the nonstationarity in loads as a result of climate change.A structure suffers from a damage state upon the occurrence of an upcrossing of the load effect with respect to the resistance/capacity,leading to the reduction of the performance function, followed by a recovery process that restores the performance. The proposed method enables the time-dependent resilience to be evaluated via a closed form solution. It is also revealed that, the proposed resilience model takes an extended form of the existing formula for upcrossing-based time-dependent reliability, thus establishing a unified framework for the two quantities. The applicability of the proposed method is demonstrated through examining the time-dependent resilience of a residential building subjected to wind load. The effects of key factors on resilience, including the nonstationarity and correlation structure of the load process,as well as the resistance/capacity deterioration scenario, are investigated through an example. In particular, the structural resilience would be overestimated if ignoring the potential impacts of climate change, which is a relatively non-conservative evaluation.
文摘The new independent solutions of the nonlinear differential equation with time-dependent coefficients (NDE-TC) are discussed, for the first time, by employing experimental device called a drinking bird whose simple back-and-forth motion develops into water drinking motion. We hope that the basic properties of bifurcation-integration solutions will be studied and investigated further in mathematics, physics, chemistry and nonlinear sciences in general.
文摘For the purpose of computer calculation to evaluate time-dependent quantum properties in finite temperature, we propose new numerical method expressed in the forms of simultaneous differential equations. Through both cases, it is found that neutralization process is not so sensitive to temperature, however, impurity potential as small as 10 meV strongly influences the neutralization of ion.
文摘The microstructures and thermodynamic properties of mixed systems comprising pyridinium ionic liquid[HPy][BF_(4)]and acetonitrile at different mole fractions were studied using molecular dynamics simulation in this work. The following properties were determined:density,self-diffusion coefficient, excess molar volume, and radial distribution function. The results show that with an increase in the mole fraction of[HPy][BF_(4)],the self-diffusion coefficient decreases.Additionally, the excess molar volume initially decreases, reaches a minimum, and then increases. The rules of radial distribution functions(RDFs)of characteristic atoms are different. With increasing the mole fraction of[HPy][BF_(4)],the first peak of the RDFs of HA1-F decreases, while that of CT6-CT6 rises at first and then decreases. This indicates that the solvent molecules affect the polar and non-polar regions of[HPy][BF_(4)]differently.

文摘We present a forward-modeling investigation of time-dependent ground magnetometric resistivity (MMR) anomalies associated with transient leachate transport in groundwater systems. The modeling experiments for the faulted porous medium also confirm that the MMR method is capable of mapping and monitoring the extent of contaminant plumes in aroundwater systems.

文摘This paper focuses on the instability mechanism of an isolated pillar, caused by time-dependent skin degradation and strength heterogeneity. The proposed method is suitable for evaluating the risk of ground surface subsidence above an abandoned mine.

文摘Following tunnel excavation and lining completion, fractured surrounding rock deforms gradually over time;this results in a time-dependent evolution of the pressure applied to the lining structure by the surrounding rock. Thus, the safety of the tunnel lining in weak strata is strongly correlated with time.In this study,we developed an analytical method for determining the time-dependent pressure in the surrounding rock and lining structure of a circular tunnel under a hydrostatic stress field.Under the proposed method, the stress–strain relationship of the fractured surrounding rock is assumed to conform to that of the Burgers viscoelastic component, and the lining structure is assumed to be an elastomer.Based on these assumptions, the viscoelastic deformation of the surrounding rock, the elastic deformation of the lining structure, and the coordinated deformation between the surrounding rock and lining structure were derived. The proposed analytical method, which employs a time-dependent safety coefficient, was subsequently used to estimate the durability of the lining structure of the Foling Tunnel in China. The derived attenuation curve of the safety coefficient with respect to time can assist engineers in predicting the remaining viable life of the lining structure.Unlike existing analytical methods, the method derived in this study considers the time dependency of the interaction between the surrounding rock and tunnel lining;hence,it is more suitable for the evaluation of lining lifetime.

文摘A new simple thixotropy model was proposed in the present paper to characterize the thixotropy-loop experiments and the start-up experiment of an LDPE (PE-FSB23D0221Q200) melt. The stress overshoot phenomenon and the stress relaxation after cessation of the thixotropy loop test can be described well by the model, whereas both of the typical viscoelastic phenomena could not be described in our previous work with a variant Huang model.
