In this study,an explicit adaptive traffic allocation scheme for Machine-to-Machine(M2M)service is proposed to achieve optimum distribution in heterogeneous networks.Based on the characteristics of M2M services,the presented scheme is formulated as a convex optimization problem that maximises the utility of the M2M service,and then determines how to allocate the total rate among the multiple access networks.The analysis and numerical simulations indicate that the proposed scheme makes a significant improvement in performance compared with the traditional schemes. 展开更多

Dynamic spectrum access (DSA) scheme in Cognitive Radio (CR) can solve the current problem of scarce spectrum resource effectively, in which the unlicensed users (i.e. Second Users, SUs) can access the licensed spectrum in opportunistic ways without interference to the licensed users (i.e. Primary Users, PUs). However, SUs have to vacate the spectrum because of PUs coming, in this case the spectrum switch occurs, and it leads to the increasing of SUs’ delay. In this paper, we proposed a Variable Service Rate (VSR) scheme with the switch buffer as to real-time traffic (such as VoIP, Video), in order to decrease the average switch delay of SUs and improve the other performance. Different from previous studies, the main characteristics of our studying of VSR in this paper as follows: 1) Our study is on the condition of real-time traffic and we establish three-dimension Markov model;2) Using the internal optimization strategy, including switching buffer, optimizing buffer and variable service rate;3) As to the real-time traffic, on the condition of meeting the Quality of Service(QoS) on dropping probability, the average switch delay is decreased as well as improving the other performance. By extensive simulation and numerical analysis, the performance of real-time traffic is improved greatly on the condition of ensuring its dropping probability. The result fully demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the variable service rate scheme. 展开更多

When examining the file transfer performance in a peer-to-peer file sharing system, a fundamental problem is how to describe the service rate for a file transfer. In this paper, the problem is examined by analyzing the distribution of server-like nodes' upstream-bandwidth among their concurrent transfers. A sufficient condition for the service rate, what a receiver obtains for downloading a file, to asymptotically be uniform is presented. On the aggregate service rate for transferring a file in a system, a sufficient condition for it to asymptotically follow a Zipf distribution is presented. These asymptotic equalities are both in the mean square sense. These analyses and the sufficient conditions provide a mathematic base for modeling file transfer processes in peer-to-peer file sharing systems. 展开更多

Cloud computing can be realized by service interoperation and its essence is to provide cloud services through network. The development of effective methods to assure the trustworthiness of service interoperation in cloud environment is a very important problem. The essence of cloud security is trust and trust management. Combining quality of service (QoS) with trust model, this paper constructs a QoS-aware and quantitative trust-model that consists of initial trust value, direct trust value, and recommendatory trust value of service, making the provision, discovery, and aggregation of cloud services trustworthy. Hence, it can assure trustworthiness of service interoperation between users and services or among services in cloud environment. At the same time, based on this model, service discovery method based on QoS-aware and quantitative trust-model (TQoS-WSD) is proposed, which makes a solid trust relationship among service requestor, service provider and service recommender, and users can find trustworthy service whose total evaluation value is higher. Corapared to QoS-based service discovery (QoS-WSD) method, it is proved by the experiment for TQoS-WSD method that more accurate result of service discovery will be achieved by service requestor, while reasonable time cost is increased. Meanwhile, TQoS-WSD method strongly resists the effect of service discovery by untrustworthy QoS values and improves service invocation success-rate and thus assures trustworthiness of services interoperation. 展开更多

Identifying Service Needs from the Perspective of Service Providers—A Qualitative Study

The provision of high-quality medical care has become a key challenge in many countries. At the same time, there is a growing awareness that the early detection of chronic diseases can reduce mortality rates. Therefore, it is important to identify service needs which influence to participate in health screening. To date, little research has been conducted into the perspectives of service providers on this topic. In this preliminary study, we aimed to explore the perspectives of service providers who work in a community-based setting in order to identify perceived barriers to chronic disease screening and incentives which can increase participation rates. In-depth interviews were conducted with 10 experienced health service providers from October 2017 to December 2017. Interviewees included physicians and community health representatives who had been working in a community-based health screening service for at least 3 years. The study identified several aspects of health screening services for chronic diseases that are in need of improvement, including a shortage of appropriate health service providers, inadequate attendance promoting measures, a lack of continually accessible and affordable medical services, healthcare professionals who possess inadequate communication skills, and rural-urban health care disparities. Service providers believe that current services do not fulfill community needs. Older adults who live in rural areas experience especially significant screening-related health disparities, which are mainly affected by structural service barriers. To improve the quality of medical services, healthcare screening services should be evaluated according to the perspectives of both participants and service providers. 展开更多

It is pointed out that for any given real number m, M, m<M, there exists a linear state feedback with time-varying gain matrix which makes the corresponding closed-loop system possess M and m as its upper bound and lower bound of the decreasing rate respectively. For the purposes of its application to system design the concept of the asymptotic assignment of the bounds of decreasing rate is also proposed. Cloud computing(CC)is an advanced technology that provides access to predictive resources and data sharing.The cloud environment represents the right type regarding cloud usage model ownership,size,and rights to access.It introduces the scope and nature of cloud computing.In recent times,all processes are fed into the system for which consumer data and cache size are required.One of the most security issues in the cloud environment is Distributed Denial of Ser-vice(DDoS)attacks,responsible for cloud server overloading.This proposed sys-tem ID3(Iterative Dichotomiser 3)Maximum Multifactor Dimensionality Posteriori Method(ID3-MMDP)is used to overcome the drawback and a rela-tively simple way to execute and for the detection of(DDoS)attack.First,the pro-posed ID3-MMDP method calls for the resources of the cloud platform and then implements the attack detection technology based on information entropy to detect DDoS attacks.Since because the entropy value can show the discrete or aggregated characteristics of the current data set,it can be used for the detection of abnormal dataflow,User-uploaded data,ID3-MMDP system checks and read risk measurement and processing,bug ratingfile size changes,orfile name changes and changes in the format design of the data size entropy value.Unique properties can be used whenever the program approaches any data error to detect abnormal data services.Finally,the experiment also verifies the DDoS attack detection capability algorithm. 展开更多

This is a new and efficient discrete event tool for queuing network modeling and workload analysis. QoS metrics have been evaluated for the multi-rate traffic in multiple scenari- os. Results obtained from simulation are compared for validation and analysis. Outcomes show that the proposed model is more efficient than the conventional method by improving residence time, re- sponse time, increasing system throughput and efficiency at queuing level with a slight degradation in call acceptance factor. 展开更多

The criteria do not require the activation functions to be differentiable or monotone nondecreasing. Some stability results from previous works are extended and improved. Economics literature has long overlooked an important economic phenomenon:Residents in large cities tend to save a smaller percentage of their disposable income than their peers in small and medium-sized cities.As an explanation for this phenomenon,this paper puts forth the hypothesis that:Residents in large cities purchase more services to increase their leisure time,which is reduced by longer commuting time than in small and medium-sized cities,thus lowering their household savings rate.We conducted an empirical study using panel data of China’s prefecture-level cities and urban household survey data,and employed an instrumental variable to address the endogeneity problem.The result confirmed the accuracy of the above hypothesis.In identifying the economic phenomenon and putting forth the hypothesis,this paper(i)creates a theoretical link between city size and household savings rate,which helps unravel the determinants of the urban household savings rate;(2)provides important implications for China’s policy-making on domestic consumption,urban populations,and industrial development.Priority should be given to developing large and medium-sized cities given the positive effects on domestic consumption and service sector development,and migrant labor shall not be barred from entering large and medium-sized cities to provide services to local residents. 展开更多

Purpose–Under the constraints of given passenger service level and coupling travel demand with train departure time,this study optimizes the train operational plan in an urban rail corridor to minimize the numbers of train trips and rolling stocks considering the time-varying demand of urban rail passenger flow.Design/methodology/approach–The authors optimize the train operational plan in a special network layout,i.e.an urban rail corridor with dead-end terminal yard,by decomposing it into two sub-problems:train timetable optimization and rolling stock circulation optimization.As for train timetable optimization,the authors propose a schedule-based passenger flow assignment method,construct the corresponding timetabling optimization model and design the bi-directional coordinated sequential optimization algorithm.For the optimization of rolling stock circulation,the authors construct the corresponding optimization assignment model and adopt the Hungary algorithm for solving the model.Findings–The case study shows that the train operational plan developed by the study’s approach meets requirements on the passenger service quality and reduces the operational cost to the maximum by minimizing the numbers of train trips and rolling stocks.Originality/value–The example verifies the efficiency of the model and algorithm. 展开更多

Dynamic adaptation of multimedia content is seen as an important feature of next generation networks and pervasive systems enabling terminals and applications to adapt to changes in e.g. context, access network, and available Quality-of-Service(QoS) due to mobility of users, devices or sessions. We present the architecture of a multimedia stream adaptation service which enables communication between terminals having heterogeneous hardware and software capabilities and served by heterogeneous networks. The service runs on special content adaptation nodes which can be placed at any location within the network. The flexible structure of our architecture allows using a variety of different adaptation engines. A generic transcoding engine is used to change the codec of streams. An MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation (DIA) based transformation engine allows adjusting the data rate of scalable media streams. An intelligent decision-taking engine implements adaptive flow control which takes into account current network QoS parameters and congestion information. Measurements demonstrate the quality gains achieved through adaptive congestion control mechanisms under conditions typical for a heterogeneous network. 展开更多

高效准确地掌握消防救援有效覆盖率是优化消防站点资源配置的前提。将判断是否有效覆盖的消防救援行程时间阈值定为240 s,建立了基于时间加权的区域消防救援总体有效覆盖率评估模型。基于网络开放数据收集了长沙的50座消防站作为消防救... 高效准确地掌握消防救援有效覆盖率是优化消防站点资源配置的前提。将判断是否有效覆盖的消防救援行程时间阈值定为240 s,建立了基于时间加权的区域消防救援总体有效覆盖率评估模型。基于网络开放数据收集了长沙的50座消防站作为消防救援供给点、5746家被抽查到的社会单位作为消防救援需求点,并调用网络地图应用程序编程接口基于实时路况来仿真消防救援行程时间。在连续7 d内设置197个评估场景,共获得了1131962个有效样本,进而得出:长沙消防救援总体有效覆盖率为21.22%,结果等级为“C”,消防救援水平一般,需加强消防站建设。这种基于网络开放数据的区域消防救援有效覆盖率评估,具备高效和准确的特点,可为优化消防站点资源配置、提升公共安全水平提供关键理论和方法支撑。 展开更多
