Although there were just seven poems published during her lifetime, she was brought to many people's attention. Some people believe that Dickinson is a real romantic but others think she is a transcendentalist. However, both the factors of romanticism and transcendentalism can be seen in her character indeed. Romantic factors include individualism in her personality and her escaping from society. Transcendental factors are oversoul and mysticalness. If all the factors are taken into account, Emily Dickinson can fall into the category of both romanticism and transcendentalism.展开更多

First, Bellow's concept of nature adopted in this novel is an expression of transcendental notion of nature. Secondly, in Henderson the Rain King Bellow also inherits the legacy of American transcendentalism as the emphasis of spirit or the oversoul. Thirdly, Bellow values individuality as highly as his literary predecessor Emerson did, however, in this novel he discards individualism. As Bellow's first mature novel, Henderson the Rain King reflects Bellow's attitude toward the tradition of American Transcendentalism: acceptance and surpass.展开更多

The difference between the factorial series and the factorial system is that the factorial series does not set an upper bound at a given place after the radix point, while in the factorial system (i – 1) is the maximal possible value for ri after the radix point. I give an extended definition of periodic numbers, and show the relationship between periodic and irrational numbers. I prove the transcendence of e by means of the factorial series and the factorial number system.展开更多

Within this class, we show that there exist hyperbolic transcendental entire maps that generate a large class of potentials which intersect the so-called tame potentials and form a distinct class of potentials. The methods and techniques derived from the thermodynamic formalism are applied to these potentials for transcendental entire maps acting on some subset of the Julia set which is conjugated to the shift map over a code space with a countable alphabet endowed with the euclidean induced metric on the complex plane.展开更多

We first examined the 1940-2022 HWs climatology and trends in lifespan, severity, spatial extent, and recurrence frequency. HWs are becoming more frequent and more severe for extratropical mid- and low-latitudes. To euphemize HWs, we here propose a novel clean energy-tapping concept that utilizes the available nano-technology, micro-meteorology knowledge of temperature distribution within/without buildings, and radiative properties of earth atmosphere. The key points for a practical electricity generation scheme from HWs are defogging, insulation, and minimizing the absorption of infrared downward radiation at the cold legs of the thermoelectric generators. One sample realization is presented which, through relay with existing photovoltaic devices, provides all-day electricity supply sufficient for providing air conditioning requirement for a residence (~2000-watt throughput). The provision of power to air conditioning systems, usually imposes a significant stress on traditional city power grids during heatwaves.展开更多

We can find that memory plays an important role in almost all of her works. The Mill on The Floss is the best work that George Eliot ever produced, and memory is perhaps the central element in the structure of it, acting as a means of transcending the unstructured world, in which past and present are unified. It can also place the individual in contact with the felt experience of the past, and allow an individual to act in accordance with his whole experience.展开更多

By extending the configuration to a two-dimensional decagonal quasicrystal, we obtain the analytic solutions of modesⅠand Ⅱ using the transcendental function conformal mapping technique. Our calculation results provide an accurate estimate of the stress intensity factors K_Ⅰ and K_Ⅱ, which can be expressed in a quite simple form and are essential in the fracture theory of quasicrystals. Meanwhile, we suggest a generalized cohesive force model for the configuration to a two-dimensional decagonal quasicrystal. The results may provide theoretical guidance for the fracture theory of two-dimensional decagonal quasicrystals.展开更多
