The summer EASJ axis features a significant interannual coherent meridional displacement. Associated with such a meridional displacement, the TE vorticity forcing anomalies are characterized by a meridional dipole pattern asymmetric about the climatological EASJ axis. The TE vorticity forcing anomalies yield barotropic zonal wind tendencies with a phase meridionally lead- ing the zonal wind anomalies, suggesting that they act to reinforce further meridional displacement of the EASJ and favor a positive feedback in the TE and time-mean flow interaction. However, The TE thermal forcing anomalies induce baroclinic zonal wind tendencies that reduce the vertical shear of zonal wind and atmospheric baroclinicity and eventually suppress the TE activity, favoring a negative feedback in the TE and time-mean flow interaction. Although the two types of TE forcing tend to have opposite feedback roles, the TE vorticity forcing appears to be dominant in the TE effect on the time-mean flow.展开更多
The formation and maintenance of the persistent anomalies (PA hereafter) of summertime circulation over the Ural Mountains are studied, and a two-way interaction of transient eddies and time-mean flow that may be invo...The formation and maintenance of the persistent anomalies (PA hereafter) of summertime circulation over the Ural Mountains are studied, and a two-way interaction of transient eddies and time-mean flow that may be involved in the evolution of the positive anomaly is demonstrated. Firstly the feature of synoptic-scale transient activity during the PA period is investigated based on composite, and the results suggest a significant enhancement of transient activity over the sector from the central North Atlantic to the coastal western Europe for the positive cases whereas a weakening is for the negative. Numerical simulations are conducted using a barotropic primitive equation model linearized about two time-mean flows, the composite of positive cases and the climatological July mean respectively. The results show that the enhanced transient activity upstream will favor positive height anomalies over the Ural Mountains. A barotropic stormtrack model is developed, by which the role of time-mean flow in organization and modulation of transient eddies is studied. It is shown that the growth of ridge over the Ural Mountains tends to organize transient eddies into the region upstream from the central North Atlantic to the coastal western Europe. Combining the two aspects, a positive feedback mechanism through two-direction interaction of transient eddies and basic flow is proposed, which can be responsible for the formation and maintenance of the persistent positive anomalies over the Ural Mountains.展开更多
A complete mathematical model for logarithmic spiral type sprag one-way clutch design and analysis is given.It assumes that the motion of all clutch components can be expressed by a model of epicyclic gearing.It takes...A complete mathematical model for logarithmic spiral type sprag one-way clutch design and analysis is given.It assumes that the motion of all clutch components can be expressed by a model of epicyclic gearing.It takes advantage of Hunt-Crossley contact impact theory to calculate the contact forces between sprags and races,and it can be used for optimization of design and comparison with other types of sprag clutches.A good deal of analysis shows that the parameters of the steady windup angle,the steady contact force,the natural frequency and natural cycle of clutch have nothing to do with the initial velocity of outer race,while the parameters of the maximum transient windup angle,the maximum transient impact force and the steady engagement time increase linearly in the mode of engaging operation of clutch.It is also shown that the strut angle has great influence on the dynamic engagement performance of clutch.The parameters of the steady windup angle,the maximum transient windup angle,the steady engaging time,the steady contact force,the maximum transient impact force and the natural cycle of clutch decrease linearly nearly with the inner strut angle,while the natural frequency of the system increases linearly with the inner strut angle.展开更多
Based on diagnostic analysis of reanalysis data for 58-year,the distribution characteristics of decadal variability in diabatic heating,transient eddy heating and transient eddy vorticity forcing related to the sea su...Based on diagnostic analysis of reanalysis data for 58-year,the distribution characteristics of decadal variability in diabatic heating,transient eddy heating and transient eddy vorticity forcing related to the sea surface temperature(SST)anomalies over the North Pacific,as well as their relationship with anomalous atmospheric circulation have been investigated in this paper.A linear baroclinic model(LBM)was used to investigate atmospheric responses to idealized and realistic heat and vorticity forcing anomalies,and then to compare relative roles of different kinds of forcing in terms of geopotential height responses.The results illustrate that the responses of atmospheric height fields to the mid-latitude heating can be either baroclinic or barotropic.The response structure is sensitive to the relative horizontal location of heating with respect to the background jet flow,as well as to the vertical profile of heating.The response to the idealized deep heating over the eastern North Pacific,mimicking the observed heating anomaly,is baroclinic.The atmospheric response to the mid-latitude vorticity forcing is always barotropic,resulting in a geopotential low that is in phase with the forcing.The atmospheric responses to the realistic heat and vorticity forcing show the similar results,suggesting that diabatic heating,transient eddy heating and transient eddy vorticity forcing can all cause atmospheric anomalies and that the vorticity forcing plays a relatively more important role in maintaining the equivalent-barotropic structure of geopotential height anomalies.展开更多
In this paper,the dynamical evolutions of two types of Arctic Oscillation (AO),the stratospheric (S) and tropospheric (T) types,have been investigated on an intermediate time scale in terms of transient eddy feedback ...In this paper,the dynamical evolutions of two types of Arctic Oscillation (AO),the stratospheric (S) and tropospheric (T) types,have been investigated on an intermediate time scale in terms of transient eddy feedback forcing and three-dimensional Rossby wave propagation.S-Type (T-type) events are characterized by an anomalous stratospheric polar vortex that is in phase (out of phase) with its tropospheric counterpart.Approximately onethird of AO events,both positive and negative,are T-type events.For the positive phase of a T-type event,the formation and maintenance of stratospheric positive anomalies over the polar cap are associated with an upward propagation of Rossby wave packets originating from the near-tropopause altitude over northeastern Asia.However,such upward propagating features are not found for S-type events.In the troposphere,transient eddy feedback forcing is primarily responsible for the meridional seesaw structure of both the S-and T-type events,with an additional contribution from Rossby wave propagation.展开更多
This paper investigates the influences of higher order viscoelasticity and the inhomogeneities of the transversely isotropic elastic parameters on the disturbances in an infinite medium, caused by the presence of a tr...This paper investigates the influences of higher order viscoelasticity and the inhomogeneities of the transversely isotropic elastic parameters on the disturbances in an infinite medium, caused by the presence of a transient radial force or twist on the surface of a cylindrical hole with circular cross section. Following Voigt's model for higher order viscoelasticity, the nonvanishing stress components valid for a transversely isotropic and higher order viscoelastic solid medium have been deduced in terms of radial displacement component. Considering the power law variation of elastic and viscoelastic parameters, the stress equation of motion has been developed. Solving this equation under suitable boundary conditions, due to transient forces and twists, radial displacement and relevant stress components have been determined in terms of modified Bessel functions. The problem for the presence of transient radial force has been numerically analysed. Modulations of displacement and stresses due to different order of viscoelasticity and inhomogeneity have been graphically depicted. The numerical study of the disturbance caused by the presence of twist on the surface may be similarly done but is not pursued in this paper.展开更多
Due to the small models and compact structures,small harvesters have also caused problems such as poor threshing separation performance and large loss rates.In order to solve unstable cleaning effects of small harvest...Due to the small models and compact structures,small harvesters have also caused problems such as poor threshing separation performance and large loss rates.In order to solve unstable cleaning effects of small harvesters when they facing different working conditions,this study selected rice plants in hilly areas for the experiment.Tensile breaking force of different parts of mature rice was tested,which revealed the fracture mechanism of each part under the combined force.Inertial threshing method was used to simulate artificial plate bin and design three kinds of non-circular pulley variable speed transmission threshing mechanism.With the help of transient inertia force,threshing force was compensated.This paper tested the harvesting performance of the variable speed threshing device with the help of the harvest performance test.Results show when facing the small rice planting area,the T/2 variable speed threshing device has better cleaning performance,and also the harvest loss rate of T/4 variable speed threshing device is the lowest.Compared with the constant speed threshing device,the impurity content rate of the variable speed threshing device is increased by 0.64%to 8.76%;the loss rate is reduced by 0.45%to 1.79%,which provides a basis for the optimization design of small combine harvester in hilly areas.展开更多
