Using a transient thermoreflectance (TTR) technique, several Au films with different thicknesses on glass and SiC substrates are measured for thermal characterization of metMlic nano-films, including the electron phonon coupling factor G, interfazial thermal resistance R, and thermal conductivity Ks of the substrate. The rear heating-front detecting (RF) method is used to ensure the femtosecond temporal resolution. An intense laser beam is focused on the rear surface to heat the film, and another weak laser beam is focused on the very spot of the front surface to detect the change in the electron temperature. By varying the optical path delay between the two beams, a complete electron temperature profile can be scanned. Different from the normally used single-layer model, the double-layer model involving interfaciM thermal resistance is studied here. The electron temperature cooling profile can be affected by the electron energy transfer into the substrate or the electron-phonon interactions in the metallic films. For multiple-target optimization, the genetic algorithm (GA) is used to obtain both G and R. The experimental result gives a deep understanding of the mechanism of ultra-fast heat transfer in metals. 展开更多

In this paper, instead of with the more expensive Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer(FTIR) a new technique of Temperature Programmed Transient Response(TP-TR) has been used with gas chromatography. Therefore, the TP-TR will be applied more widespreadly than ever before. With the technique of TP-TR and electric conductivity, the study is on the reaction mechanism and the adsorption behavior of the reactants and products to the present catalyst Mo-V-Nb/Al_2O_3 in the reaction from ethane through oxydehydrogenation to ethylene as the product. By Range-Kutta-Gill and Margarat methods, the kinetic parameters of the reaction elementary steps (i.e. rate constants, active energies and frequency factors) have been evaluated. The thermal boundary conductance of Al/SiO2, Al/Si, Au/SiO2, and Au/Si are measured by a femtosecond laser transient thermoreflectance technique. The distinct differences of the interfacial thermal conductance between these samples are observed. For the same metal film, the thermal boundary conductance between metal and substrate decreases with the thermal conductivity of the substrate. The measured results are explained with the phonon diffusion mismatch model by introducing a phonon transmission coefficient across the interface. 展开更多

A series of Co (10.7 wt. %)-CeO2/SiO2 catalysts with various cerium contents was prepared and evaluated. The optimized ceria-promoted catalyst exhibits good activity, high selectivity towards long chain hydrocarbons, and excellent stability. The promotion mechanism of ceria was investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed reduction (TPR), H2 temperature programmed surface reaction (H2-TPSR) and transient response technique. It is suggested that the improved catalytic performance of the catalyst modified by ceria be attributed to (1) the improvement in the dispersion of metallic cobalt and the amount of active sites for Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis (FTS), leading to an increased concentration of surface active carbon species and high selectivity towards long chain hydrocarbons; (2) the inhibition of disproportionation of CO and the removal of inactive surface carbon species. 展开更多

Heat-transfer coefficients(HTC)on surfaces exposed to convection environments are often measured by transient techniques such as thermochromic liquid crystal(TLC)or infrared thermography.In these techniques,the surface temperature is measured as a function of time,and that measurement is used with the exact solution for unsteady,zero-dimensional(0-D)or one-dimensional(1-D)heat conduction into a solid to calculate the local HTC.When using the 0-D or 1-D exact solutions,the transient techniques assume the HTC and the free-stream or bulk temperature characterizing the convection environment to be constants in addition to assuming the conduction into the solid to be 0-D or 1-D.In this study,computational fluid dynamics(CFD)conjugate analyses were performed to examine the errors that might be invoked by these assumptions for a problem,where the free-stream/bulk temperature and the heat-transfer coefficient vary appreciably along the surface and where conduction into the solid may not be 0-D or 1-D.The problem selected to assess these errors is flow and heat transfer in a channel lined with a staggered array of pin fins.This conjugate study uses three-dimensional(3-D)unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)closed by the shear-stress transport(SST)turbulence model for the gas phase(wall functions not used)and the Fourier law for the solid phase.The errors in the transient techniques are assessed by comparing the HTC predicted by the time-accurate conjugate CFD with those predicted by the 0-D and 1-D exact solutions,where the surface temperatures needed by the exact solutions are taken from the time-accurate conjugate CFD solution.Results obtained show that the use of the 1-D exact solution for the semi-infinite wall to give reasonably accurate“transient”HTC(less than 5%〇relative error).Transient techniques that use the 0-D exact solution for the pin fins were found to produce large errors(up to 160%relative error)because the HTC varies appreciably about each pin fin.This study also showed that HTC measured by transient techniques could differ considerably from the HTC obtained under steady-state conditions with isothermal walls. 展开更多

Photocatalytic hydrogen production by overall water solar-splitting is a prospective strategy to solve energy crisis.However,the rapid recombination of photogenerated electron–hole pairs deeply restricts photocatalytic activity of catalysts.Here,the in-situ transient photovoltage(TPV)technique was developed to investigate the interfacial photogenerated carrier extraction,photogenerated carrier recombination and the interfacial electron delivery kinetics of the photocatalyst.The carbon dots/NiCo_(2)O_(4)(CDs/NiCo_(2)O_(4))composite shows weakened recombination rate of photogenerated carriers due to charge storage of CDs,which enhances the photocatalytic water decomposition activity without any scavenger.CDs can accelerate the interface electron extraction about 0.09 ms,while the maximum electron storage time by CDs is up to 0.7 ms.The optimal CDs/NiCo_(2)O_(4)composite(5 wt.%CDs)displays the hydrogen production of 62µmol·h^(−1)·g^(−1) and oxygen production of 29µmol·h^(−1)·g^(−1) at normal atmosphere,which is about 4 times greater than that of pristine NiCo_(2)O_(4).This work provides sufficient evidence on the charge storage of CDs and the interfacial charge kinetics of photocatalysts on the basis of in-situ TPV tests. 展开更多

Charge transport characteristics of Cd_(0.95)Mn_(0.05)Te:In radiation detectors have been evaluated by combining time resolved current transient measurements with time of flight charge transient measurements.The shapes of the measured current pulses have been interpreted with respect to a concentration of net positive space-charge, which has resulted in an electric field gradient across the detector bulk.From the recorded current pulses the charge collection efficiency of the detector was found to approach 100%.From the evolution of the charge collection efficiency with applied bias,the electron mobility-lifetime product ofμ_nτ_n =(8.5±0.4)×10^(-4) cm^2/V has been estimated.The electron transit time was determined using both transient current technique and time of flight measurements in the bias range of 100-1900 V.From the dependence of drift velocity on applied electric field the electron mobility was found to beμ_n =(718±55) cm^2/(V·s) at room temperature. 展开更多

In many engineering applications,heat transfer enhancement techniques are of vital importance in order to ensure reliable thermal designs of convective heat transfer applications.This study examines experimentally the heat transfer characteristics on the base plate around various surface mounted obstacles.Local convection coefficients are evaluated in the vicinity of each individual protruding body with great spatial resolution using the transient liquid crystal technique.Five different obstacles of constant height-to-hydraulic diameter ratio(~1.3) are considered.These include:a cylinder,a square,a triangle,a diamond and a vortex generator of delta wing shape design.The experiments were carried out over a range of freestream Reynolds numbers,based on the hydraulic diameter of each obstacle,varying from 4,000 to 13,000.The results indicate a negligible effect of the flow speed on the heat transfer topological structure and a considerable effect of the obstacle geometry on the level and distribution of heat transfer enhancement. 展开更多
