A Dream of Red Mansions is one of the greatest novels of ancient China, which has rich cultural connotations,reflecting the profound culture of the Chinese nation and the rich literary tradition. The Influence of Cultural Differences on the Translation of A Dream of Red Mansions

It can be divided into two approaches to culture involved in translation: SL culture-oriented and TL culture-oriented.This kind of classification is based on the analysis of translation of cultural loaded words and expressions in the two English versions( Xianyi Yang& Gladys Yang and David Hawkes) of the Chinese classical novel A Dream of Red Mansion.The analysis leads to the conclusion that both methods can achieve the goal in the target language culture as long as the differences are taken into consideration in the purpose of translation,the form of the texts,the purpose of the author and the readers.

Cultural Identity and Translator's Style: Case Study of Translation of Tea Relevant Acts in Hong Lou Meng

From the methodological perspective, the thesis summarized leisure tea act, judging-time tea act to map translator's style. Through investigations on all these, the thesis succeeded in confirming the translator's styles and pinpointing cultural identity as essential factors influencing their styles. The deepening process of globalization has given rise to restless cultural exchanges among people from different regions of the world through newspapers,books,and other written media.However,the significant differences in languages and cultures have become an insurmountable gap in intercultural communication.To lubricate cultural exchanges,new translation theories that focus on the transformation of different cultural concepts shall be introduced and adopted.This paper aims to extract applicable notions from Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions for pragmatic translation studies by laying emphasis on its pragmatic value through case study.By such theoretical transplantation,valuable suggestions are proposed to tackle cultural misunderstandings and conflicts encountered amid cultural exchanges.

The Influence of Miao Nationality’s Culture in Yuan Xiang Region on the Later Poetry Creation of Qu Yuan

Miao culture is one of the minority cultures in China.It also has a certain impact on the development of Chinese literature and poetry.Chu ci is a new poetic style created by Qu Yuan,an ancient poet in China.It is the first collection of romantic poetry in the history of Chinese literature.Qu Yuan’s poetry creation is related to his life experience.Qu Yuan was exiled to Yuan Xiang region,and he had been in contact with the Miao ancestors in Yuan Xiang area during the exile.Therefore,the Miao land culture in Yuan Xiang area has a profound influence on Qu Yuan’s later poetry creation.This paper,taking Qu Yuan’s later poetry as an example,analyzes the influence of Miao culture on Chu ci in Yuan Xiang area,introduces Qu Yuan’s life and how to contact Miao culture,and probes into the influence of Miao nationality’s religious thought,customs,language and culture,oral folk song and pan song on the later poetry creation of Qu Yuan.

Translator's Identity in the English Translation of Wenxin Diaolong

In the article Owen’s and Yang Guobin’s English versions of Wenxin Diaolong are compared from the perspective of a translator’s identity.Owen is a translator of A-merican origin while Yang Guobin is of Chinese origin.Their multiple identity as a reader,author,creator and cultural communicator differs much from each other,which produces important influences upon the selection of the strategy of translation.Owen prefers foreignizing translation while Yang favors domesticating translation.The English translation of Wenxin Diaolong provides much value for the research on the translation of Chinese classic literature.

On the Strategic Paths of the Going Global Strategy of Chinese Literature

The going global strategy of Chinese literature is a vital part of the going global strategy of Chinese culture. In recent years,the Chinese government has launched and strongly supported a series of activities and projects to promote this strategy,but little effect has been produced. Starting from analyzing the predicament and reasons of the current strategy,the essay suggests four strategic paths: enhancing the overall strength of the country to promote the international influence of Chinese culture,strengthening cultural awareness and cultural introspection,integrating the nationality and cosmopolitan of literature and establishing a market-oriented literary translation mechanism.
