汉译本《译者的隐形:翻译史论》(The translator's invisibility:A history of translation)对韦努蒂翻译思想和理念的引进和推广起到了很大的作用。然而,其中部分译文存在着对原文词义、搭配、句法结构、跨文化知识背景的理解错误以及遣词造句等方面的问题,与原文的本义有较大出入,容易引起读者误解,值得商榷。本文列出其中几例存疑译文,条分缕析,指出其失误所在,并提出参考译文,以供对比。

On the Gender Difference of Translator's Subjectivity in Literary Translation

Translation is an activity aimed at transferring the source language to the target language,related to many aspects involving culture,society,history and so on.The translator plays a critical role in translation practice.Xu Jun considers"translator’s subjectivity should be reflected to be artistic personal consciousness in translated works."Translator’s differences in age,gender,personal traits,educational level and other aspects make translation artistry completely divergent.Therefore,translator’s subjectivity shoulders great significances on the success of literary translation,which isn’t arbitrary,out of control,must be conducted in line with essence of the original work.This paper focuses on the gender difference of translator’s subjectivity in literary translation,hoping to find a way of eliminating the influence of it in the translation work.

On the Study of the Translator's Position in Traditional Translation Theories

In traditional translation theories, the author and the translator, the original text and the translated text are in the binary oppositions. Both author-centeredness and text-centeredness are in authoritative positions. Moreover, there are some incorrect viewpoints about the translator's position in the traditional translation theories. In this case, this paper will analyze the translator's position in the traditional translation theories comprehensively.

Translator's Subjectivity in Science and Technology Translation

Science and technology translation involves various industries and professions,with its own system of terminology and unique language features.For a translator,who is not a professional scientist or technician,it seems to be difficult to do science and technology translation accurately and properly.Consequently,it is necessary for the translator to give play to his subjectivity when translating science and technology documents or related interpretation:searching for related data to replenish necessary professional knowledge,consulting with professional technicians actively to clarify the jargon and common sayings,and thinking critically to scrutiny the source text.

Cultural Identity and Translator's Style: Case Study of Translation of Tea Relevant Acts in Hong Lou Meng

From the methodological perspective, the thesis summarized leisure tea act, judging-time tea act to map translator's style. Through investigations on all these, the thesis succeeded in confirming the translator's styles and pinpointing cultural identity as essential factors influencing their styles. Hopefully, this could help to provide a new angle of view to make research on translator's style. Moreover, the thesis wishes that with analysis of tea culture in Hong Lou Meng the translation of tea relevant acts receive greater priority in the Chinese Classics Translation.

Health risk assessment of trace metal(loid)s in agricultural soils based on Monte Carlo simulation coupled with positive matrix factorization model in Chongqing, southwest China

This study aimed to investigate the pollution characteristics, source apportionment, and health risks associated with trace metal(loid)s(TMs) in the major agricultural producing areas in Chongqing, China. We analyzed the source apportionment and assessed the health risk of TMs in agricultural soils by using positive matrix factorization(PMF) model and health risk assessment(HRA) model based on Monte Carlo simulation. Meanwhile, we combined PMF and HRA models to explore the health risks of TMs in agricultural soils by different pollution sources to determine the priority control factors. Results showed that the average contents of cadmium(Cd), arsenic (As), lead(Pb), chromium(Cr), copper(Cu), nickel(Ni), and zinc(Zn) in the soil were found to be 0.26, 5.93, 27.14, 61.32, 23.81, 32.45, and 78.65 mg/kg, respectively. Spatial analysis and source apportionment analysis revealed that urban and industrial sources, agricultural sources, and natural sources accounted for 33.0%, 27.7%, and 39.3% of TM accumulation in the soil, respectively. In the HRA model based on Monte Carlo simulation, noncarcinogenic risks were deemed negligible(hazard index <1), the carcinogenic risks were at acceptable level(10^(-6)<total carcinogenic risk ≤ 10^(-4)), with higher risks observed for children compared to adults. The relationship between TMs, their sources, and health risks indicated that urban and industrial sources were primarily associated with As, contributing to 75.1% of carcinogenic risks and 55.7% of non-carcinogenic risks, making them the primary control factors. Meanwhile, agricultural sources were primarily linked to Cd and Pb, contributing to 13.1% of carcinogenic risks and 21.8% of non-carcinogenic risks, designating them as secondary control factors.

This paper explores the subtitle translation of The Shawshank Redemption through Gideon Toury’s translation norms theory, highlighting the influence of translation norms on the film’s subtitle adaptation in China. The study applies Toury’s framework to examine the initial, preliminary, and operational norms shaping the translation process. The findings reveal that the initial norm led translators to favor strategies that align with the target language culture, enhancing viewer acceptance. The preliminary norm reflects an understanding of the social, cultural, and ideological expectations of the time, ensuring the translation resonated with Chinese audiences. Under operational norms, translators employed techniques, such as omission, rewriting, and transformation to meet language and cultural norms while adhering to target audience reading habits. This research not only sheds light on the subtitling practices of The Shawshank Redemption, but also demonstrates the applicability of Toury’s theory in film translation, offering valuable insights into the field of translation studies.

On Translation of Children’s Literature Based on Reception Aesthetics:A Case Study of The Secret Garden

Grounded in reader-centered theories,Reception Aesthetics prioritizes the active engagement and acceptance of target readers.This study examines the translation of children’s literature through the lens of Reception Aesthetics,using Li Wenjun’s rendition of The Secret Garden as a case study.The objective is to scrutinize various aspects of the translation-including vocabulary,syntax,rhetorical devices,and cultural nuances-and to discern how the adaptation and application of diverse translation strategies cater to the aesthetic expectations.

Distribution, Mobility, and Health Risks Assessment of Trace Metals in River Sediments from Intense Agricultural Activity Areas in West Africa

The economy of West African countries is mainly based on agriculture. However, the trace metal(loid)s contamination status in rivers is relatively unknown in the region. In this work, 45 surface sediments collected from the Bandama, Comoé, and Bia Rivers in south and south eastern Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa), were analyzed for total metal concentrations and chemical speciation. The results showed that the river sediments were considerably contaminated by Cd and moderately contaminated by As, Cu, Pb, and Zn. Significant spatial variations were observed among the stations but not between the rivers. Metals Cd and Cu were likely to cause more ecological risks. The speciation analysis unravelled that the metal(loid)s partitioned mainly in the residual fraction, with the potential mobile fraction varying from 14% to 28%. The study calls for establishment of strict policies relative to the application of fertilizers and agrochemicals and mining activities to protect the environment and human health risks.

On Translator＇s Subjectivity in the Chinese Version of Pride and Prejudice Translated by Wang Keyi

As the center and subject of the translation, translator＇ s subjectivity plays a great role in translation research and more and more attention has been aroused. Since the first version of Pride and Prejudice came into being, Chinese translators have begun to show great interest in translating this novel, and there are more than ten translated Chinese versions now. Scholars have conducted a lot of research about this novel and its various translated versions. Among all these Chinese versions, Wang Keyi＇ s version is relatively earlier and is also the most popular one. Thus, it attracts many readers＇ eyes and there are increasing comments and studies on this version. There are also studies analyzing or comparing several versions from the perspective of translator＇ s subjectivity. While, few articles are published to analyze this version from the three elements of translator＇ s subjectivity： initiatives, passiveness, and purposiveness. They are also three basic features of translator＇ s subjectivity, in which translator＇ s subjectivity reflects. It is also the three features that consist of the translator＇ s subjectivity. Therefore, the comprehensive and intensive research of translator＇ s subjectivity in the Chinese version of Pride and Prejudice has great realistic meaning and practical values.

In the article Owen’s and Yang Guobin’s English versions of Wenxin Diaolong are compared from the perspective of a translator’s identity.Owen is a translator of A-merican origin while Yang Guobin is of Chinese origin.Their multiple identity as a reader,author,creator and cultural communicator differs much from each other,which produces important influences upon the selection of the strategy of translation.Owen prefers foreignizing translation while Yang favors domesticating translation.The English translation of Wenxin Diaolong provides much value for the research on the translation of Chinese classic literature.

Translator＇s Voice in Translated Texts

Ever since Venuti put forward the concept of translator＇s invisibility in 1995, studies have been conducted on the discursive presence of translators in the translated texts. The translator, as the receiver of the source text and m the meantime the producer of the target text, is sure to leave his/her voice traceable in the translated texts throughout the whole translating process. This paper aims to present an overview of the conceptual development of the translator＇s voice in translation studies from different perspectives like narratology, stylistics, socio-narrative theory, speech-act theory etc.

Changing Content of Translators＇ Prefaces： With Special Reference to China Yilin Press＇s Translated Publications

The current study aims at identifying the content configuration of translators＇ prefaces with special reference to China Yilin Press＇s English-Chinese （E-C） translated publications of American authors and finding the evolving tendency of the content of the translators＇ prefaces. One hundred and eight translators＇ prefaces are selected from the E-C translations published by the Press from 1988 to 2013 and classified on the basis of Genette＇s （1997） classification scheme. The Microsoft Excel as well as a human coder is used to analyze the evolving tendency and content of the translators＇ prefaces. Results indicate that translators＇ prefaces fall into 11 kinds in terms of their content, with the occurrence of three of them--genesis, the translator＇s conclusion and introduction to the translator ---on the increase, whereas that of eight of them--introduction to the author, introduction to the original, genre indication, the translator＇s opinion or analysis, statements of intent, contextual information, commentary on the title and introduction to the translated version--on the decline. It can be concluded that translators＇ prefaces play important roles in that they provide more information concerning the original and the author, such as plots, characters in the story and narrative techniques, but also give explanations for translators＇ motivation of translation, translation strategies adopted. Focus of the content of translators＇ prefaces has shifted from the original and the authors to the translators and translation process that reflect translator＇s subjectivity. This study underlines that due attention should be paid to the evolving tendency of their content configuration in recent years so as to ensure the social status of translators, and circulation and acceptance of the translated publications.

Wmatrix-based Study of Translator's Style——A Case Analysis of Two English Versions of The True Story of Ah Q

With the help of Wmatrix, this paper attempts to compare and analyze the the two English versions from the level of word frequency, POS, semantic domain to differentiate the translator's style. It's found that the translation inside is characterized by diversified words, verbalization and foreignization, whereas the translation outside is featured as simple words, nominalization,and explicitation.
