Droplet controllable manipulation over a wide temperature range has promising applications in microelectronic heat dissipation, inkjet printing, and high temperature microfluidic system. However, the fabrication of a platform for controllable droplet manipulation using the methods commonly used in industry remains a tremendously challenge. The popular method of controlling droplets is highly dependent on external energy input and has relatively poor controllability in terms of droplet motion behaviors and manipulation environment, such as distance, velocity, direction and a wide temperature range. Here, we report a facile and industrially applicable method for preparing Al superhydrophobic (S-phobic) surfaces, which enables controlled droplet bouncing, evaporation, and transport over a wide temperature range. Systematic mechanistic studies are also investigated. Extreme wettability surfaces were prepared on Al substrate by a composite process of electrochemical mask etching and micro-milling. To investigate the evaporation process and thermal coupling characteristics, controlled evaporation and controlled bouncing of droplet in a wide temperature range were conducted. Based on the evaporation regulation and bouncing mechanism of droplets on an extreme wettability surface, by using Laplace pressure gradients and temperature gradients, we realized controlled transport of droplets with confluence, split-flow, and gravity-resistant transport over a wide temperature range, offering a potential platform for a series of applications, such as new drug candidates and water collection. 展开更多

In communication networks with policy-based Transport Control on-Demand (TCoD) function,the transport control policies play a great impact on the network effectiveness. To evaluate and optimize the transport policies in communication network,a policy-based TCoD network model is given and a comprehensive evaluation index system of the network effectiveness is put forward from both network application and handling mechanism perspectives. A TCoD network prototype system based on Asynchronous Transfer Mode/Multi-Protocol Label Switching (ATM/MPLS) is introduced and some experiments are performed on it. The prototype system is evaluated and analyzed with the comprehensive evaluation index system. The results show that the index system can be used to judge whether the communication network can meet the application requirements or not,and can provide references for the optimization of the transport policies so as to improve the communication network effectiveness. 展开更多

We propose a new method to control the directed quantum transport of ultracold atoms in a one-dimensional optical lattice. In this proposal, the effective tunneling between the neighboring sites can be adjusted via coherent destruction of tunneling by tuning the phase of the external field, instead of using the driving field intensity or the frequency, thus the directed quantum transport of ultracold atoms can be coherently controlled in a nmch easier manner. Our proposal overcomes the major drawback of the method used by Creffield et al [Phys. Rev. Lett. 99 (2007) 110501], and can be implemented, in principle, in any one-dimensional optical lattice. Some potential applications of the scheme are also discussed. 展开更多

Therefore, providing a higher deadline meeting ratio becomes a critical challenge in the typical online data intensive (OLDI) ap- plications of data center networks (DCNs). However, a problem named as priority synchronization is found in this paper, which de- creases the deadline meeting ratio badly. To solve this problem, we propose a priority probability deceleration (P2D) deadline-aware TCP. By using the novel probabilistic deceleration, p2D prevents the priority synchronization problem. Simulation results show that P2D increases the deadline meeting ratio by 20% compared with D2TCP. 展开更多

An efficient performance enhancing scheme is proposed. The improvement of TCP performance over satellite-based Interuet is accomplished by protocol transition gateways at each end of a satellite link. The protocol which runs over a satellite link executes the receiver-driven flow control and acknowledgements- and timeouts-based error control strategies. The validity of this TCP performance enhancing scheme is verified by a series of simulation experiments. Results show that the proposed scheme can efficiently enhance the TCP performance over satellite-based Internet and ensure that the available bandwidth resources of the satellite link are fully utilized. 展开更多

The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of vehicle dynamics control systems (VDCS) on both the collision of the vehicle body and the kinematic behaviour of the ve- hicle's occupant in case of offset frontal vehicle-to-vehicle collision. A unique 6-degree-of- freedom (6-DOF) vehicle dynamics/crash mathematical model and a simplified lumped mass occupant model are developed. The first model is used to define the vehicle body crash parameters and it integrates a vehicle dynamics model with a vehicle front-end structure model. The second model aims to predict the effect of VDCS on the kinematics of the occupant. It is shown from the numerical simulations that the vehicle dynamics/crash response and occupant behaviour can be captured and analysed quickly and accurately. Yurthermore, it is shown that the VDCS can affect the crash characteristics positively and the occupant behaviour is improved. 展开更多

In molecular engineering,designing and synthesizing molecular machines with capable of performing complex tasks,remains a formidable challenge.DNA is an excellent candidate for building molecular robots because it is highly programmable.Here,we present an artificial nanorobot,in which a DNA cube serves as the inert‘body’,and nucleic acid catalysts based on an enzymatic nicking reaction act as the‘legs’for walking.The nanorobot can execute a series of actions,such as‘start’,‘turn’,and‘stop’when it walks along a predefined track.Its performance could be confirmed and monitored by using an atomic force microscope(AFM)and fluorescence spectroscopy.Inspired by biological machines,we artificially designed a series of specialized tasks that combined walking with control of cargo transport and catalysis.Real-time fluorescence kinetics curves provide monitoring signals for cargo transport and catalytic processes.Our work can enrich the toolbox of DNA machinery and has great potential for engineering molecular nanofactories. 展开更多

The study on artificial intelligence(AI) methods for tuning of particle accelerators has been reported in many literatures.This paper presents tuning method for agent-based control systems of transport lines in the case of sensor/actuator failures.The method uses model-based tracking concept to relax the demand on sensor data.The condition for successful operation of the stated scheme is derived,and the concept is demonstrated through simulation by applying it to the model of microtron,transport line-1 and booster of indus accelerator.The results show that this approach is very effective in transport line control during sensor/actuator failures. 展开更多

The effects of the atom–cavity detuning, the optomechanical effect,the coupling strengths between the cavity and the atom or the waveguide, and the atomic dissipation on the single-photon transport properties are analyzed systematically. Interestingly, the single-photon transmission spectra show multiple double electromagnetically induced transparency. Moreover, the double electromagnetically induced transparency can be switched to a single one by tuning the atom–cavity detuning. 展开更多

Active queue management(AQM)is essential to prevent the degradation of quality of service in TCP/AQM systems with round-trip time(RTT)delay.RTT delays are primarily caused by packet-propagation delays,but they can also be caused by the processing time of queuing operations and dynamically changing network situations.This study focuses on the design and analysis of an AQM digital controller under time-delay uncertainty.The controller is based on the Smith predictor algorithm and is called the SMITHPI controller.This study also demonstrates the stability of the controller and its robustness against network parameter variations such as the number of TCP connections,time delays,and user datagram protocol flows.The performance,robustness,and effectiveness of the proposed SMITHPI controller are evaluated using the NS-2 simulator.Finally,the performance of the SMITHPI controller is compared with that of a well-known queue-based AQM,called the proportional-integral controller. 展开更多
