Rheological and Tribological Characteristics of the Synthesized Lubricants Derived from Vegetable Oils 被引量:4

The double bonds in the vegetable oils can be conjungated and Diels-Alder react when they are heated in the existence of the catalyst. The percent of the double bond will decrease and the oxidative stability of the vegetable oils can be ameliorated. Dimmer acid can react with different carbon chain length of alcohols to form dimmer acid esters. A series of dimmer acid esters were synthesized and their rheological characteristics (viscosity, viscosity index, pour point) and tribological characteristics (the coefficient of friction at different load, the characteristic of extreine pressure ( PB ), the wear scare diameter ( D30min^196N ) were evaluated and analyzed. The results showed that the characteristics of Di-iso-octanol dimmer acid ester were the best among the synthesized dimmer esters. It' s a lubricant with good properties(the viscosity is 94.5 mm^2/s, the viscosity index is high up to 141 and the pour point is - 49℃ ). It is a kind of newly interesthing ester type lubricant. Its rheological and tribological characteristics are even better than those of the slap-up synthesized lubricant--pentaerythritol esters (C7-9 acidate). The FT-IR spectrophotometer was used to analyze the structure of the synthetic esters. Their IR spectra are the same as the typical IR spectrum of ester. The test indicated that Di-iso-octanol dimmer acid ester could be used as a kind of base lubricant with excellent quantity. 展开更多

A process of chromium electroplating using a standard bath with additives and active carbon particles was reported,and the tribological behaviors of the composite coatings using the pin-on-disk tester and the table wear tester were investigated.Experimental results indicate that the electroplated chromium-active carbon composite coatings exhibited the low friction coefficient and excellent anti-wear properties when compared with the normal chromium electroplated ones.The formation of active carbon particles within the chromium matrices can be explained by SEM analysis and the mechanisms of wear resistance of the composite coatings were studied. 展开更多

Although graphene oxide(GO)has emerged as an excellent lubricant additive in water,there remain great challenges in their practical application due to high production costs.By taking into account the low cost and also its excellent tribological properties,it is likely that nano-SiO_(2)can be used as a lubricant additive to partially replace GO.Hence,this paper aims to explore the tribological properties of nano-SiO_(2)incorporated in GO nanofluids for partial GO replacement by investigating the friction coefficient and wear volume of the prepared SiO_(2)/GO hybrid nanofluids for magnesium alloy/steel sliding pairs.The experiments reveal that the SiO_(2)/GO hybrids retain low friction coefficients as compared to individual GO or SiO_(2)at all test conditions in this study.However,as for the bearing capacity test,all samples can provide a low wear volume under the loads of 1 and 3 N.With the increase of the normal load,there is considerable differences in the anti-wear behavior.Compared with that of individual GO nanofluids,the wear volume of the GO/SiO_(2)(mass ratio of 0.3:0.2)hybrid nanofluids was reduced by50.5%at 5 N and by 49.2%at 8 N.Furthermore,the wear volume of the GO/SiO_(2)(mass ratio of 0.3:0.2)hybrid nanofluids was reduced by46.3%under the rigorous conditions,as compared to individual GO nanofluids.The findings provide new insights into developing carbon nanomaterial-based hybrid nanofluids for magnesium alloy formation. 展开更多

The research on surface texture is developing from single macro-texture to composite micro-nano texture.The current research on the anti-friction mechanism and theoretical models of textures is relatively weak.Studying the characteristics of different types of surface textures and determining the applicable working conditions of each texture is the focus of current research.In this paper,a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication is established based on Navier-Stokes equations.The FLUENT software is used to simulate and analyze the four texture models,explore the dynamic pressure lubrication characteristics of different texture types,and provide data support for texture optimization.The key variable values required by the mathematical model are obtained through the simulation data.The friction coefficient of the texture under different working conditions was measured through friction and wear experiments,and the mathematical model was verified by the experimental results.The research results show that circular texture is suitable for low to medium speed and high load conditions,chevron texture is suitable for medium to high speed and medium to high load conditions,groove texture is suitable for high speed and low load conditions,and composite texture is suitable for high speed and medium to high load conditions.Comparing the experimental results with the results obtained by the mathematical model,it is found that the two are basically the same in the ranking of the anti-friction performance of different textures,and there is an error of 10%−40%in the friction coefficient value.In this study,a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication was proposed,and the solution method of the optimal surface texture model was determined. 展开更多

The tribological characteristics of cotton fibers play an important role in engineering and materials science,and real contact behavior is a significant aspect in the friction behavior of cotton fibers.In this study,the tribological characteristics of cotton fibers and their relationship with the real contact behavior are investigated through reciprocating linear tribotesting and real contact analysis.Results show that the friction coefficient decreases with a general increase in load or velocity,and the load and velocity exhibit a co‐influence on the friction coefficient.The dynamic change in the real contact area is recorded clearly during the experiments and corresponds to the fluctuations observed in the friction coefficient.Moreover,the friction coefficient is positively correlated with the real contact area based on a quantitative analysis of the evolution of friction behavior and the real contact area at different loads and velocities.This correlation is evident at low velocities and medium load. 展开更多

Carbon dots(CDs)have opened up a new field of carbon nanomaterials and successively attracted increasing attention since their discovery in 2004.Owing to their ultrasmall size,tunable surface functional groups,excellent dispersibility,attractive stability,low toxicity,environmental friendliness,facile synthesis and low-cost precursors,CDs have been developed as green and promising frictionreducing and anti-wear materials in lubrication science,applied to energy conservation and extension of mechanical service life in recent years.However,there are few reviews focusing on the application of CDs in the important field of lubrication.In this review,we comprehensively summarize the development of CDs in lubrication for the first time.Firstly,three strategies for structural engineering design of CDs to improve their tribological characteristics are fully analyzed,in terms of size and shape control,surface modification and heteroatom doping.Secondly,the advance in lubrication application of CDs,including CDs as additives for lubricants,greases,gel and magnetorheological fluids as well as CDs as lubricating coatings,is systematically highlighted.Thirdly,the lubricating mechanisms of CDs as additives are introduced in detail.Furthermore,the remaining major challenges and opportunities for CDs in lubrication field are discussed and outlined. 展开更多
