Several experiments were conducted using water and CO_2 as the heat transfer media in the tubes, respectively. The results indicated that hot air flux, the initial liquid level height and the tube pitch ratio had great influence on the heat transfer coefficient outside the tube bundle(ho). Finally, the air flux associated factor β and height associated factor γ were introduced to propose a new hocorrelation. After verified by experiments using cold water, high pressure CO_2 and liquid N_2 as heat transfer media, respectively, it was found that the biggest deviation between the predicted and the experimental values was less than 25%.展开更多

The improved spray models consider more spray phenomena such as cavitation flow in nozzle hole, jet atomization, droplet second breakup and spray wall interaction. Otherwise, a reduced DME reaction mechanism is implemented in the combustion model, and a new turbulent combustion model?Partial Stirred Reactor (PaSR) model is selected to simulate the spray combustion process, the effects of turbulent mixing on the reaction rate are considered. The results of engine modeling based on those models agreed well with the experimental measurements. A commonly known drawback of the DDM approach is the attenuated validity in the dense spray, where the bulk liquid disintegrates into droplets. There the assumption of single droplets surrounded by a homogenous gas field is not reasonable. In this region, the Eulerian-Eulerian multi-phase approach performs better because instead of parcels the spray is represented by the volume fractions of one bulk liquid and several droplet size class phases. A further drawback of the DDM approach is that increasing the spatial resolution of the computational grid leads to a reduced statistical convergence, since the number of spray parcels per computational cell becomes smaller. It is desirable to combine the benefits of both spray approaches in coupled CFD simulations. Therefore, the dense spray region is simulated separately with the Eulerian spray approach on a highly resolved mesh covering only the region close to the nozzle orifice. The entire engine domain with combustion and emission models is simulated with the Eulerian-Lagrangian spray approach for the dilute spray region. The two simulations are coupled through exchange of boundary conditions and model source terms. An on-line coupling interface manages the data transfer between the two simulation clients, i.e., Eulerian spray and engine client. The aim of this work is to extend the coupled spray approach in terms of exchanging combustion related heat and species sources, and consequently creating the link between Eulerian spray and combustion models. The results show mixture formation and combustion in real-case engine simulations, and demonstrate the feasibility of spray model combination in engineering applications.展开更多

The relationship between the diameter of the misted droplets and the spray pressure was determined. Based on the theory of the relative velocity, the two-phase flow mode of the spray chamber and the efficiency equation for heat and moisture exchange were established. Corrections were carried out for the efficiency equation with spray pressure of 157 kPa. The results show that the pressure plays an important part in determining the efficiency of heat and moisture exchange. When the spray pressure is less than 157 kPa,better coincidence is noticed between the theoretical analysis and the test results with the error less than 6%. Greater error will be resulted in the case when the spray pressure is beyond 157 kPa. After the correction treatment, the coincidence between the theoretical and the experimental results is greatly improved.展开更多

By means of oriented impingement method, flexible spray penetration in design is realized. High-speed photograph was used to investigate the spatial distribution characteristics of the new spray for cases of different impingement angles and needle valve opening pressures. The results show that, by applying spray impingement orientation, fuel jets spread along the cone surface as shape of sectors, so the dispersion of jets is increased obviously. Changing on impingement angle leads to variation of penetration, which is critical in homogeneous mixture preparation. Due to the flexibility of spray penetration in design, the spray impingement on liner is avoided in a great extent. The results also indicate that higher needle valve opening pressure results in longer penetration and larger spray angle after impingement. Combustion characteristics of the impinged conical spray were studied in the 1135 type diesel engine. The new impinged conical spray system work smoothly in full load range with better fuel economy and lower emissions of NOx and soot than the original test engine.展开更多

Compact ICEs with high performance and a low environmental load are greatly needed. In the future, smart active control of combustion by means of fuel spray injection must be considered as a breakthrough technology to address serious issues related to conventional ICEs, such as emissions. A designed fuel injection rate and spray pattern during the injection period have been technically developed, and combustion can be partially controlled in the conventional ICE. However, spatial fuel distribution is not progressing as desired in the field of combustion;thus, new and effective active control technologies for fuel spray are very necessary for the smart control of combustion. Cavitation, flash boiling, spray-to-spray interaction, spray-to-wall interaction, and air flow have potential as a basis for active attitude control of fuel spray. This article uses evidence from the literature to discuss the possibility of active spray attitude control for future fuel spray combustion technology in a smart compact ICE.展开更多

The multi-phase reacting flow is modeled, in which the shear flow is solved Eulerianly by means of direct numerical simulation, and the motions of individual sub-grid point-mass fuel droplets are tracked Lagrangianly.Spray combustion behaviors are studied under different ambient pressures. Results indicate that ignition kernels are formed at high-strain vortex braids, where the scalar dissipation rates are high. The flame kernels are then strongly strained, associated with the rotation of the shearing vortex, and propagate to envelop the local vortex. It is observed that the flammable mixtures entrained in the vortex are burned from the edge to the core of the vortex until the reactants are completely consumed. As the ambient pressure increases, the high-temperature region expands so that the behaviors of spray flames are strongly changed. An overall analysis of the combustion field indicates that the time-averaged temperature increases, and the fluctuating pressure decreases, resulting in a more stable spray combustion under higher pressures, primarily due to the acceleration of the chemical reaction.展开更多

This article uses evidence from the literature to discuss the possibility of active spray attitude control for future fuel spray combustion technology in a smart compact ICE.

文摘The structure of the trapped-vortex cavity and radial flameholder can maintain stable combustion under severe conditions, such as sub-atmospheric pressure and high inlet velocity. This article reports a complete study of combustion characteristics for this design. The flow field of the physical model was obtained by numerical simulation. The pilot combustion characteristics, including the combustion process, combustion efficiency, and wall temperature distribution, were studied by experiments. The pilot combustion can be divided into three modes under different fuel flow rates and inlet conditions. In“cavity maintained(CM)”mode, pilot flame exists at both sides of the cavity zone, rotating with the main vortex.In“cavity-flameholder maintained(CFM)”mode, the combustion process occurs both inside the cavity and behind the flameholder. While in“flameholder maintained(FM)”mode, the cavity will quench, and the combustion is maintained by the radial flameholder only.Due to the difference in the flow field, the flame pattern and propagation direction vary under different combustion modes. The combustion efficiency, influenced by combustion modes, shows an increase-decrease-increase curve. The wall temperature distribution is also affected;the cavity wall temperature decreases under large fuel flux while the temperature of the burner-back plate continues to rise to a maximum value.

文摘Biofuels have extensive available resources and have an immense potential as promising alternative fuels for automobile. The application advantages of biofuels are mainly reflected as particulate matter(PM)reduction, carbon neutral, greenhouse gases reduction, waste utilization, energy and economic security, and fuel pluralism.Based on the understanding of molecular structure effects of biofuels on soot formation and particles morphology, the effects of alcohols, ethers, esters and biodiesel on spray and combustion process in constant volume bomb in recent years are retrospectively analyzed in this paper. For the mixture, macromolecular ester fuels and polyoxymethylene dimethyl ether(PODE)are conducive to the improvement of liquid spray, while biodiesel, small molecules, dimethyl ether(DME)and alcohols are reversed.Alcohols are advantageous to the extension of mixing time and the increasing of vapor-phase mixture.Through the influence integrated assessment, alcohols show the best performance on the spray, atomization and combustion, while biodiesels show the worst. But in terms of combustion,PODE is the best choice without considering spray and atomization. For binary alternative-diesel fuel blends, methanol or butanol is the best additive based on synthetically considerations on spray, atomization and combustion. To meet the requirements of the fuel application of diesel engine, ternary fuel or even quaternary fuel have been proposed and explored. This review can help to form a systematic understanding on fuel recombining and obtain the guide of clean and efficient fuel formulation for diesel engine.

文摘Numerical simulation is applied to detail the combustion characteristics of n-decane sprays in highly compressible vortices formed in a supersonic mixing layer. An overall analysis of the combustion field indicates that the time-averaged temperature increases, and the fluctuating pressure decreases, resulting in a more stable spray combustion under higher pressures, primarily due to the acceleration of the chemical reaction.
