In this paper, the multi-body coupled dynamic characteristics of a semisubmersible platform and an HYSY 229 barge were investigated.First, coupled hydrodynamic analysis of the HYSY 229 barge and the semisubmersible platform was performed.Relevant hydrodynamic parameters were obtained using the retardation function method of three-dimensional frequency-domain potential flow theory. The results of the hydrodynamic analysis were highly consistent with the test findings, verifying the accuracy of the multifloating hydrodynamic coupling analysis, and key hydrodynamic parameters were solved for different water depths and the coupling effect.According to the obtained results, the hydrodynamic influence was the largest in shallow waters when the coupling effect was considered.Furthermore, the coupled motion equation combined with viscous damping, fender system, and mooring system was established, and the hydrodynamics, floating body motion, and dynamic response of the fender system were analyzed.Motion analysis revealed good agreement among the surge, sway, and yaw motions of the two floating bodies. However, when the wave period reached 10 s,the motion of the two floating bodies showed severe shock, and a relative motion was also observed. Therefore, excessive constraints should be added between the two floating bodies during construction to ensure construction safety. The numerical analysis and model test results of the semisubmersible platform and HYSY 229 barge at a water depth of 42 m and sea conditions of 0°,45°,and 90° were in good agreement, and the error was less than 5%.The maximum movement of the HYSY 229 barge reached 2.61 m in the sway direction, whereas that of the semisubmersible platform was 2.11 m.During construction, excessive constraints should be added between the two floating bodies to limit their relative movement and ensure construction safety. 展开更多

A coupled numerical calculation method combining smooth particle hydrodynamics(SPH)and the finite element method(FEM)was implemented to investigate the seismic response of horizontal storage tanks.Anumericalmodel of a horizontal storage tank featuring a free liquid surface under seismic action was constructed using the SPH–FEM coupling method. The stored liquid was discretized using SPH particles, while the tank and supports were discretized using the FEM.The interaction between the stored liquid and the tank was simulated by using the meshless particle contact method. Then, the numerical simulation results were compared and analyzed against seismic simulation shaking table test data to validate the method.Subsequently,a series of numerical models, considering different liquid storage volumes and seismic effects, were constructed to obtain time history data of base shear and top center displacement, which revealed the seismic performance of horizontal storage tanks.Numerical simulation results and experimental data showed good agreement, with an error rate of less than 18.85%.And this conformity signifies the rationality of the SPH-FEM coupling method. The base shear and top center displacement values obtained by the coupled SPH-FEM method were only 53.3% to 69.1% of those calculated by the equivalent mass method employed in the current code.As the stored liquid volume increased, the seismic response of the horizontal storage tank exhibited a gradual upward trend, with the seismic response increasing from 73% to 388% for every 35% increase in stored liquid volume. The maximum von Mises stress of the tank and the supports remained below the steel yield strength during the earthquake. The coupled SPH-FEM method holds certain advantages in studying the seismic problems of tanks with complex structural forms, particularly due to the representation of the flow field distribution during earthquakes by involving reservoir fluid participation. 展开更多

In this study,a phase-field scheme that rigorously obeys conservation laws and irreversible thermodynamics is developed for modeling stress-corrosion coupled damage(SCCD).The coupling constitutive relationships of the deformation,phase-field damage, mass transfer, and electrostatic field are derived from the entropy inequality. The SCCD localization induced by secondary phases in Mg is numerically simulated using the implicit iterative algorithm of the self-defined finite elements. The quantitative evaluation of the SCCD of a C-ring is in good agreement with the experimental results. To capture the damage localization,a micro-galvanic corrosion domain is defined, and the buffering effect on charge migration is explored.Three cases are investigated to reveal the effect of localization on corrosion acceleration and provide guidance for the design for resistance to SCCD at the crystal scale. 展开更多

Extensive high-speed railway(HSR)network resembled the intricate vascular system of the human body, crisscrossing mainlands.Seismic events, known for their unpredictability, pose a significant threat to both trains and bridges, given the HSR’s extended operational duration. Therefore, ensuring the running safety of train-bridge coupled(TBC)system, primarily composed of simply supported beam bridges,is paramount.Traditional methods like the Monte Carlo method fall short in analyzing this intricate system efficiently.Instead, efficient algorithm like the new point estimate method combined with moment expansion approximation(NPEM-MEA)is applied to study random responses of numerical simulation TBC systems.Validation of the NPEM-MEA’s feasibility is conducted using the Monte Carlo method.Comparative analysis confirms the accuracy and efficiency of the method, with a recommended truncation order of four to six for the NPEM-MEA.Additionally,the influences of seismic magnitude and epicentral distance are discussed based on the random dynamic responses in the TBC system. This methodology not only facilitates seismic safety assessments for TBC systems but also contributes to standard-setting for these systems under earthquake conditions. 展开更多

The formation mechanism of calcium vanadate and manganese vanadate and the difference between calcium and manganese in the reaction with vanadium are basic issues in the calcification roasting and manganese roasting process with vanadium slag.In this work,CaO–V_(2)O_(5) and MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couples were prepared and roasted for different time periods to illustrate and compare the diffusion reaction mechanisms. Then, the changes in the diffusion product and diffusion coefficient were investigated and calculated based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. Results show that with the extension of the roasting time, the diffusion reaction gradually proceeds among the CaO–V_(2)O_(5) and MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couples. The regional boundaries of calcium and vanadium are easily identifiable for the CaO–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couple.Meanwhile, for the MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couple,MnO_(2) gradually decomposes to form Mn_(2)O_(3),and vanadium diffuses into the interior of Mn_(2)O_(3).Only a part of vanadium combines with manganese to form the diffusion production layer.CaV_(2)O_(6) and MnV_(2)O_(6) are the interfacial reaction products of the CaO–V_(2)O_(5) and MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couples, respectively, whose thicknesses are 39.85 and 32.13μm when roasted for 16 h.After 16 h,both diffusion couples reach the reaction equilibrium due to the limitation of diffusion. The diffusion coefficient of the CaO–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couple is higher than that of the MnO_(2)–V_(2)O_(5) diffusion couple for the same roasting time, and the diffusion reaction between vanadium and calcium is easier than that between vanadium and manganese. 展开更多

The world's first full Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST) is designed with the auxiliary heating method of neutral beam injection(NBI)system. Beam collimators are arranged on both sides of the beam channel for absorbing the divergence beam during the beam transmission process in the EAST-NBI system. The gas baffle entrance collimator(GBEC) is a typical high-heat-flux component located at the entrance of gas baffle. An efficient and accurate analysis of its thermodynamic performance is of great significance to explore the working limit and to ensure safe operation of the system under a high-parameter steady-state condition. Based on the thermo-fluid coupled method, thermodynamic analysis and simulation of GBEC is performed to get the working states and corresponding operating limits at different beam extraction conditions. The dynamic characteristics of a beam–cable coupled system are investigated using an improved Chebyshev spectral element method in order to observe the effects of adding cables on the beam. The system is modeled as a double Timoshenko beam system interconnected by discrete springs. Utilizing Chebyshev series expansion and meshing the system according to the locations of its connections, numerical results of the natural frequencies and mode shapes are obtained using only a few elements, and the results are validated by comparing them with the results of a finiteelement method. Then the effects of the cable parameters and layout of connections on the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a fixed-pinned beam are studied. The results show that the modes of a beam–cable coupled system can be classified into two types, beam mode and cable mode, according to the dominant deformation. To avoid undesirable vibrations of the cable, its parameters should be controlled in a reasonable range, or the layout of the connections should be optimized. 展开更多

The coupling vibration of a hydraulic pipe system consisting of two pipes is studied. The pipes are installed in parallel and fixed at their ends, and are restrained by clips to one bracket at their middle points. The pipe subjected to the basement excitation at the left end is named as the active pipe, while the pipe without excitation is called the passive pipe. The clips between the two pipes are the bridge for the vibration energy. The adjacent natural frequencies will enhance the vibration coupling. The governing equation of the coupled system is deduced by the generalized Hamilton principle, and is discretized to the modal space. The modal correction is used during the discretization. The investigation on the natural characters indicates that the adjacent natural frequencies can be adjusted by the stiffness of the two clips and bracket. The harmonic balance method(HBM)is used to study the responses in the adjacent natural frequency region. The results show that the vibration energy transmits from the active pipe to the passive pipe swimmingly via the clips together with a flexible bracket, while the locations of them are not node points. The adjacent natural frequencies may arouse wide resonance curves with two peaks for both pipes. The stiffness of the clip and bracket can release the vibration coupling. It is suggested that the stiffness of the clip on the passive pipe should be weak and the bracket should be strong enough. In this way,the vibration energy is reflected by the almost rigid bracket, and is hard to transfer to the passive pipe via a soft clip. The best choice is to set the clips at the pipe node points. The current work gives some suggestions for weakening the coupled vibration during the dynamic design of a coupled hydraulic pipe system. 展开更多

In order to prevent and mitigate disasters,it is crucial to immediately and properly assess the spatial distribution of landslide hazards in the earthquake-affected area.Currently, there are primarily two categories of assessment techniques:the physical mechanism-based method(PMBM),which considers the landslide dynamics and has the advantages of effectiveness and proactivity;the environmental factor-based method(EFBM),which integrates the environmental conditions and has high accuracy. In order to obtain the spatial distribution of landslide hazards in the affected area with near realtime and high accuracy, this study proposed to combine the PMBM based on Newmark method with EFBM to form Newmark-Information value model(N-IV),Newmark-Logic regression model(N-LR)and Newmark-Support Vector Machine model(N-SVM)for seismic landslide hazard assessment on the Ludian Mw 6.2 earthquake in Yunnan. The predicted spatial hazard distribution was compared with the actual cataloged landslide inventory, and frequency ratio(FR),and area under the curve(AUC)metrics were used to verify the model's plausibility, performance, and accuracy.According to the findings, the model's accuracy is ranked as follows:N-SVM>N-LR>N-IV>Newmark.With an AUC value of 0.937,the linked N-SVM was discovered to have the best performance. The research results indicate that the physics-environmental coupled model(PECM)exhibits accuracy gains of 46.406%(N-SVM),30.625%(N-LR),and 22.816%(N-IV)when compared to the conventional Newmark technique. It shows varied degrees of improvement from 2.577%to 12.446%when compared to the single EFBM.The study also uses the Ms 6.8 Luding earthquake to evaluate the model, showcasing its trustworthy in forecasting power and steady generalization.Since the suggested PECM in this study can adapt to complicated earthquake-induced landslides situations,it aims to serve as a reference for future research in a similar field,as well as to help with emergency planning and response in earthquakeprone regions with landslides. 展开更多

The greatest challenges of rigorously modeling coupled hydro-mechanical(HM)processes in fractured geological media at different scales are associated with computational geometry. These challenges include dynamic shearing and opening of intersecting fractures at discrete fracture scales as a result of coupled processes, and contact alteration along rough fracture surfaces that triggers structural and physical changes of fractures at micro-asperity scale. In this paper, these challenges are tackled by developing a comprehensive modeling approach for coupled processes in fractured geological media based on numerical manifold method(NMM)at multiple scales.Based on their distinct geometric features, fractures are categorized into three different scales:dominant fracture, discrete fracture, and discontinuum asperity scales. Here the scale is relative, that of the fracture relative to that of the research interest or domain.Different geometric representations of fractures at different scales are used, and different governing equations and constitutive relationships are applied. For dominant fractures,a finite thickness zone model is developed to treat a fracture as a porous nonlinear domain.Nonlinear fracture mechanical behavior is accurately modeled with an implicit approach based on strain energy. For discrete fractures,a zero-dimensional model was developed for analyzing fluid flow and mechanics in fractures that are geometrically treated as boundaries of the rock matrix. With the zero-dimensional model, these fractures can be modeled with arbitrary orientations and intersections. They can be fluid conduits or seals, and can be open, bonded or sliding. For the discontinuum asperity scale, the geometry of rough fracture surfaces is explicitly represented and contacts involving dynamic alteration of contacts among asperities are rigorously calculated.Using this approach, fracture alteration caused by deformation,re-arrangement and sliding of rough surfaces can be captured. Our comprehensive model is able to handle the computational challenges with accurate representation of intersections and shearing of fractures at the discrete fracture scale and rigorously treats contacts along rough fracture surfaces at the discontinuum asperity scale. With future development of three-dimensional(3D)geometric representation of discrete fracture networks in porous rock and contacts among multi-body systems, this model is promising as a basis of 3D fully coupled analysis of fractures at multiple scales, for advancing understanding and optimizing energy recovery and storage in fractured geological media. 展开更多

A coupled method describing gas–solid two-phase flow has been proposed to numerically study the bubble formation at a single orifice in gas-fluidized beds.Solid particles are traced with smoothed particle hydrodynamics, whereas gas phase is discretized by finite volume method.Drag force, gas pressure gradient, and volume fraction are used to couple the two methods. The effect of injection velocities, particle sizes, and particle densities on bubble growth is analyzed using the coupled method. The simulation results, obtained for two-dimensional geometries, include the shape and diameter size of a bubble as a function of time;such results are compared with experimental data, previous numerical results, and other approximate model predictions reported in the literature. Moreover, the flow profiles of gas and particle phases and the temperature distribution by the heat transfer model around the forming bubble are also discussed. All results show that the coupled method efficiently describes of the bubble formation in fluidized beds. The proposed method is applicable for solving gas–solid two-phase flow in fluidization. 展开更多

Based on Kirchhoff plate theory and the Rayleigh-Ritz method, the model for free vibration of rectangular plate with rectangular cutouts under arbitrary elastic boundary conditions is established by using the improved Fourier series in combination with the independent coordinate coupling method(ICCM).The effect of the cutout is taken into account by subtracting the energies of the cutouts from the total energies of the whole plate. The vibration displacement function of the hole domain is based on the coordinate system of the hole domain in this method. From the continuity condition of the vibration displacement function at the cutout, the transition matrix between the two coordinate systems is constructed, and the mass and stiffness matrices are completely obtained. As a result, the calculation is simplified and the computational efficiency of the solution is improved. In this paper, numerical examples and modal experiments are presented to validate the effectiveness of the modeling methods, and parameters related to influencing factors of the rectangular plate are analyzed to study the vibration characteristics. 展开更多

This paper studies the cascading failure on random networks and scale-free networks by introducing the tolerance parameter of edge based on the coupled map lattices methods. The whole work focuses on investigating some indices including the number of failed edges, dynamic edge tolerance capacity and the perturbation of edge.In general,it assumes that the perturbation is attributed to the normal distribution in adopted simulations.By investigating the effiectiveness of edge tolerance in scale-free and random networks,it finds that the larger tolerance parameter λ can more efficiently delay the cascading failure process for scale-free networks than random networks. These results indicate that the cascading failure process can be effiectively controlled by increasing the tolerance parameter λ.Moreover, the simulations also show that, larger variance of perturbation can easily trigger the cascading failures than the smaller one. This study may be useful for evaluating efficiency of whole traffic systems, and for alleviating cascading failure in such systems. 展开更多

The predictability of El Ni-o-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has been an important area of study for years. Searching for the optimal precursor (OPR) of ENSO occurrence is an effective way to understand its predictability. The CNOP (conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation), one of the most effective ways to depict the predictability of ENSO, is adopted to study the optimal sea surface temperature (SST) precursors (SST-OPRs) of ENSO in the IOCAS ICM (intermediate coupled model developed at the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences). To seek the SST-OPRs of ENSO in the ICM, non-ENSO events simulated by the ICM are chosen as the basic state. Then, the gradient-definition-based method (GD method) is employed to solve the CNOP for different initial months of the basic years to obtain the SSTOPRs. The experimental results show that the obtained SST-OPRs present a positive anomaly signal in the western-central equatorial Pacific, and obvious differences exist in the patterns between the different seasonal SST-OPRs along the equatorial western-central Pacific, showing seasonal dependence to some extent. Furthermore, the non-El Ni-o events can eventually evolve into El Ni-o events when the SST-OPRs are superimposed on the corresponding seasons;the peaks of the Ni-o3.4 index occur at the ends of the years, which is consistent with the evolution of the real El Ni-o. These results show that the GD method is an effective way to obtain SST-OPRs for ENSO events in the ICM. Moreover, the OPRs for ENSO depicted using the GD method provide useful information for finding the early signal of ENSO in the ICM. 展开更多
