Optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to reflect the microstructure of the tested material and the corrosion morphology characterization. Results show that precipitate particles may accelerate the iron cabonate crystal formation process of the nucleation growth and promote the formation of compact layer. The major corrosion phases are FeCO3 and complexity compound containing Fe and Cr. The corrosion behavior consists of three stages. At the first stage, a thin inner layer and an inhomogeneous outer layer have appeared. At the second stage, the outer layer becomes homogeneous and compact, which prevents corroding the steel substrate further. At the third stage, iron carbonate crystal tends to nucleate and grow locally. The corrosion rate obtained by weight loss method increases abruptly first and then decreases quickly with increasing corrosion time. The mutual relation among microstructure, corrosion surface morphology, corrosion phases and corrosion kinetics is discussed.展开更多

The mi-crostructure coarsens and the toughness worsens at the coarse grained (CG) HAZ apparently after weld simulation. The experimental results indicated that the bainitic ferrite and the second phases formed at cooling are differently as the variation of carbon in base metal. In low carbon steels, the bainitic ferrite laths are long and narrow, the second phases are complex including residual austenite, martensite, the M-A constituent and the Fe3C carbide. The formation of Fe3C carbide is the main reason of the poor toughness in CG HAZ. The ultralow carbon in base metal, however, can improve the CG HAZ toughness through restraining the formation of carbides, decreasing the M-A constituent, increasing the residual austenite content, which are beneficial to the CG HAZ toughness.展开更多

It is found that the cor-rosion process of the steel in an environment where H2S and CO2 coexist at different H2S concentrations is related to the morphological structure and stability of the corrosion product film. With the addition of a small amount of H2S, the size of the anode reaction region is de-creased due to constant adsorption and separation of more FeS sediment or more FeHS+ions on the surface of the steel. Meanwhile, the dou-ble-layer capacitance is diminished with increasing anion adsorption capacity. Therefore, the corrosion process is inhibited. The general cor-rosion rate of the steel rapidly decreases after the addition of a small amount of H2S under the coexistence of H2S and CO2. With a further increase in H2S concentration, certain parts of the corrosion product film become loose and even fall off. Thus, the protection provided by the corrosion product film worsens, and the corrosion rate tends to increase.展开更多

It is found that Ca^2+ can enhance the corrosion rate, especially in the Ca^2+ concentration from 256 to 512 mg/L, which can be attributed to the growing grain size and loosing structure of corrosion scales with increasing Ca^2+ concentration. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) investigations reveal that a complex carbonate (Fe, Ca)CO3 forms at high Ca^2+ concentration due to the gradual replacement of Fe^2+ in FeCO3 by Ca^2+.展开更多

In this study, two types of industrial trials on inclusion modifications in liquid steel were conducted using ultra-low-carbon Al-killed steel with different Mg and Ca contents to verify the effects of Ca and Mg contents on the modification mechanism of Al_2O_3-based inclusions during secondary refining. The results showed that Al_2O_3-based inclusions can be modified into liquid calcium aluminate or a multi-component inclusion with the addition of a suitable amount of Ca. In addition, [Mg] in liquid steel can further reduce CaO in liquid calcium aluminate to drive its evolution into CaO–MgO–Al_2O_3 multi-component inclusions. Thermodynamic analysis confirmed that the reaction between [Mg] and CaO in liquid calcium aluminate occurs when the MgO content of liquid calcium aluminate is less than 3 wt% and the temperature is higher than 1843 K.展开更多

The microstructure in the coarse-grained heat affected zone (CGHAZ) of NULCB steel under laser welding conditions was investigated by thermal simulation. The influence of the cooling time from 800℃ to 500℃.t8/5 (0.3-30 s), on the microstructure of the CGHAZ was discussed. The experimental results indicate that the microstructnre of the CGHAZ is only the granular bainite which consists of bainitic ferrite (BF) lath and M-A constituent while t8/5 is 0.3-30 s. The M-A constituent consists of twinned martensite and residual austenite, and the change of the volume fraction of the residual austenite in the M-A constituent is very small when t8/5 is between 0.3 and 30 s. The morphology of the M-A constituent obviously changes with the variation of t8/5.As t8/5 increases, tile average width, gross and shape parameter of the M-A constituent increase, while the line density of the M-A constituent decreases.展开更多

Combined the strengthening effects of TMCP and retardation effects of austenite recrystallization with increasing Nb in austenite region, HTP conception with low carbon and high niobium alloy design has been successfully applied to develop X80 coil with a thickness of 18.4 mm used for China's Second West-East pipeline. During this process, big efforts were made to further develop and enrich the application of microalloying technology, and at the same time the strengthening effects of Nb have been completely unfolded and fully utilized with improved metallurgical quality and quantitative analysis of microstructure. In this paper, the existing status and strengthening effect of Nb during reheating, rolling and cooling have been analyzed and characterized based on mass production samples and laboratory analysis. As confirmed, grain refinement remains the most basic strengthening measure to reduce the microstructure gradient along the thickness, which in turn enlarges the processing window to improve upon low temperature toughness, and finally make it possible to develop heavy gauge, high strength pipeline steels with more challenging fracture toughness requirements. As stated by a good saying that practice makes perfect. The existence of titanium decreases the grain size and lowers the yield strength ,resulting in low quality of these steels with regard to various properties. Thus, the titanium content should be reduced to the minimum. Based on the industrial production of ultra-low carbon A1-Si killed steel, this paper investigated the physical-chemical behaviors of titanium with and without desulfurization during RH refining. The influences of Ti content in hot metal, ladle slag composition, and ladle slag quantity, etc., on the Ti content in refined liquid steel were discussed. The results show that the partition ratio of titanium between ladle slag and liquid steel is inversely proportional to the AI content to the power of 4/3 ,and the empirical formula regressed from practical experience can be expressed as w(TiO2)/WTi=48/w[AI]4/3 Maximum partition ratio of titanium between top slag and liquid steel can be ensured W[Til WIAIIby an optimum slag composition including components of FeOx and A12 03 and an appropriate slag basicity. The contents of FetO and A1203 should be controlled above 6% and below 20% respectively and the slag basicity should be kept within 1.5 to 3.0. Moreover, desulfurization refining in the RH vacuum will decrease the partition ratio of titanium between ladle slag and liquid steel significantly. To keep the Ti content stably below 15 ×10 ^-4% in a 300 ton ladle ,the Ti content in hot metal must be lower than 500 × 10^-4% and the thickness of ladle slag carried over from BOF slag must be less than 50 ram.展开更多

The aging hardening curve was obtained by the hardness testing. With the aid of an optical microscope and TEM, the microstructure and the aging precipitates were detected. The results indicate that when the precipitation occurs during the creep a plateau will appear on the creep curve; the left-hand and right-hand endings of the plateau correspond to the precipitation start (Ps) and finish (Pf) times, respectively. 文摘: Titanium is an impurity element in some special steel grades. To keep the Ti content stably below 15 ×10 ^-4% in a 300 ton ladle ,the Ti content in hot metal must be lower than 500 × 10^-4% and the thickness of ladle slag carried over from BOF slag must be less than 50 ram.

文摘A creep technique was applied on a Gleeble-1500 thermal simulator for monitoring the aging precipitation in ultra-low carbon steels containing various coppers. The Pf obtained from the creep curve coincides with the peak hardness time (tp) at the aging hardening curve. A precipitation-time-temperature (PTT) diagram of the steel can be obtained.
