Increasing attention on the development of the testing method based on nonlinear ultrasonic guided waves is largely attributed to the theoretical advances of nonlinear guided waves propagation in solid media. One of the typical acoustic nonlinear responses is the generation of second harmonics that can be used to effectively evaluate damage/degradation in materials/structures. In this paper, the theoretical progress of second-harmonic generation(SHG) of ultrasonic guided wave propagation in solid media is reviewed. The advances and developments of theoretical investigations on the effect of SHG of ultrasonic guided wave propagation in different structures are addressed. Some obscure understandings and the ideas in dispute are also discussed.展开更多

Displacement waveforms are calculated numerically by using double FFT. The calculated results include the displacements of the elastic half space of Aluminum medium, and epicenter and off-epicenter of an Aluminum plate. The two exciting sources of thermoelastic and ablating generation are considered respectively. The experiment was made on the Aluminum medium with a Nd:YAG laser and the normal displacement signals are detected by a laser interferometer. The numerical results are quite in agreement with experiments.展开更多

There are two methods of supplying light energy for the excitation of TO lattice wave as a high frequency ultrasound: (A) incident light comes from the source outside the cavity? fulfilled with ionic crystal medium, (B) photon mode of the cavity possesses the gain of amplification by stimulated radiation of active atoms doping in the medium. More attention is drawn to the case (B). The working system of case (B), as a mixture of lasing action and ultrasonic generation, has the threshold phenomena like usual laser. And the linear stability analysis shows that the nonlineax phonon-photon coupling and the interaction among phonons themselves, both of which reflect the anharmonicity of lattice vibration, are necessary to the stable ultrasonic output. So this laser-ultrasonic generation mixture would be also a measure to investigate the lattice-dynamic nonlinearity and correlated electromagnetic properties of ionic crystals.展开更多
