The tensile and shear stresses at the crack tip are calculated by finite element method. The results show that under Mode Ⅲ loading the maximum principal stress σ1 at crack tip is smaller or a little larger than the maximum shear stress τmax. Since the tensile strength of brittle rock is much lower than its shear strength, σ1 is easy to reach its critical value before τmax reaches its critical value and thus results in Mode I fracture. The fracture trajectory is helicoid and the normal direction of tangential plane with the fractured helicoid is along the predicted direction of the maximum principal stress at the notch tip. It is further proved that Mode Ⅰ instead of Mode Ⅲ fracture occurs in brittle rock under Mode Ⅲ loading. The fracture mode depending on the fracture mechanism must be distinguished from the loading form.展开更多

One is under the conditions that the con-fining pressure is fixed and the axial pressure is changeable. The other is under the conditions that the confining pressure becomes and the axial pressure is fixed. It is found that samples break up evenly after impacting when axial static pressures are low, there is great disparity in size of fragments when axial static pressures are high, and the main bodies of samples after the tests under the combination of dy-namic and static loads frequently show the type of V or X. The samples are more close-grained at the elastic stage and impacts make many cracks be generated and developed, as makes samples more crackable. At the initial phase of damage stage, the static pressures make some cracks in the samples which are undeveloped and the impacts′ role is similar to that at the elastic stage. At the metaphase or anaphase of damage stage, these cracks in the samples develop adequately and the impacts mainly accelerate samples′ failure. The main bodies of samples show the type of V or X after impacting due to the confining pressures′ restraining samples′ lateral formation at the elastic stage or the initial phase of damage stage, the main bodies of samples have almost formed at the stage loading static pressures and the results after impacting usually are similar to those under the axial pressures tests.展开更多

Blast test results show that the SDOF systems are accurate in predicting the failure mode of the slab under blast loads by incorporating the effects of the strain rate effect caused by rapid load application. Based on different damage criteria, pressure-impulse (P-I) diagrams of the two failure modes were analyzed with the SDOF systems. The effects of span length, concrete strength, and reinforcement ratio of the slab on the P-I diagram were also investigated. Results indicate that a slab tends to fail in direct shear mode when it is of a smaller span length and tends to fail in flexure mode when it is of a larger span length. With the increase of the concrete strength or reinforced ratio, both the flexure and shear capacity increase. Based on numerical results, a simplified method and a semi analytical equation for deriving the P-I diagram are proposed for different failure modes and damage levels.展开更多

Numerical and experimental results show that the distance between the inner and outer loading points, L 1+ L 2, has a great influence on stresses at notch tip and fracture mode. When L 1+ L 2>0.5 L or 0.1 L < L 1+ L 2<0.5 L , maximum principal stress σ 1 exceeds the tensile strength σ t. The ratio of τ max / σ 1 is relatively low or high and thus Mode Ⅰ or mixed mode fracture occurs. When L 1+ L 2< 0.1 L , σ 1 is smaller than σ t and the ratio of τ max / σ 1 is much higher, which facilitates the occurrence of Mode Ⅱ fracture.展开更多

By looking into other treatment models within the activated sludge family it is possible to find alternatives for the operation. This paper concentrates on the possibilities to improve even small WWTP with respect to energy savings. The small plant in Northern Sweden, called Rosvik WWTP, is given as an example. Some important findings related to the intermittent aeration mode may be summarized as follows: 1) An energy savings for the operation of the small WWTP with respect to aeration needs that resulted in a decrease of the energy power supply by more than 35%, as compared with the previous operation based on continuous aeration;2) The up to date effluent levels with respect to the main pollutants have remained at very good levels in 2020, P-level averages 0.16 mg P/l versus consent level <</span><span> </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">0.5 mg P/l;COD-level 40 versus <</span><span> </span><span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">70 mg/l and BOD</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">7</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> 9 versus <</span></span><span> </span><span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">15 mg/l;3) Sometimes, also improved sludge settling characteristics have been observed, thus providing improved discharge figures;4) The potential to develop an enhanced biological phosphorus removal. The method deals with the development of an efficient transparent boundary condition based on DtN operators. The method developed in this study is successfully applied to a straight axisymmetric lined guide by imposing a mode on one of the artificial boundaries of the truncated guide. The results are in good agreement with analytical solutions. Applying the method for a non-uniform axisymmetric lined guide which is a complex case, proved its effectiveness and the results compared to those of PML layers are in very good agreement.展开更多

A microgrid ...This article presents the simulation results and analysis related to the response of the generators within a microgrid towards an accidental overload condition that will require some load shedding action. A microgrid overload can occur due to various reasons ranging from poor load schedule, inadequate switching of circuits within the microgrid, outage of one or more generators inside the microgrid, illegal load connections by some low voltage consumers, etc. It was observed that among the main factors that determine the survival of the microgrid during its transition from the grid connected mode to the islanded mode of operation are the size and type of the load connected (passive or dynamic load) as well as the length of time during which the unexpected load is connected. Models of a speed and voltage regulators of a diesel generator, and important for coping with the overload conditions are provided in the paper. The novelty of the work lies in the load shedding simulation and analysis of the specific generators studied herein, regarding that in many countries the microgrid technology is seen as an important alternative towards the ever increasing load demand and also to assist the system during periods of blackout.展开更多

The plant has been in operation since September 2011. In April 2012, it was concluded how a test of the aeration efficiency and a performance test should be carried out. The tests have been based on the actual loading of the plant and the analysis results from the daily process control. The evaluation of the aeration efficiency is not reported in this paper. The paper presents the overall performance of the water treatment part of the plant during start-up conditions, from fall 2011 through the first five months of 2012. The results from the operation are found in Table 1. An important circumstance at the plant is the current very low loading in comparison with the design load. This fact has resulted in an introduction of an intermittent mode of the aeration (nitrification) reactor. Based on operation figures, during more than a month (May 2012), it has been possible to give a realistic assessment of the overall performance. The most striking results are summarized as follows: 1) The intermittent operation has enabled an energy efficient operation of the plant. By the introduction of the intermittent aeration, the energy consumption has been reduced by around 75%, compared with the continuous operation mode;2) The plant performance during the intermittent operation has been improved with respect to virtually all important pollution variables. The most striking improvement is the discharge total P level, reflecting that a substantial enhanced biological phosphorus removal takes. The typical discharge levels found during May 2012, were compared with the earlier obtained values. It is important to underline that the loading on the plant has slightly increased during May as compared with the previous operation period.展开更多

Mode-Ⅱ loading experiment using BHW-35 steel at different temperatures show that there are two kinds of fracture mode.opening mode(or tensile mode)and sliding mode(or shear mode).A de- crease in temperature causes the fracture mode to change from shear mode to tensile mode. For BHW- 35 steel, this critical temperature is about-90C.Actually.under any kind of loading mode(mode Ⅰ,mode Ⅱ,mode Ⅲ or mixed mode),there always exist several kinds of potenital fracture modes (for example, opening mode.sliding mode.tearing mode or mixed mode). The effect of temperature under mode-Ⅱ loading is actually related to the change of the elastic-plastic properties of the material.展开更多

The main bodies of samples show the type of V or X after impacting due to the confining pressures′ restraining samples′ lateral formation at the elastic stage or the initial phase of damage stage, the main bodies of samples have almost formed at the stage loading static pressures and the results after impacting usually are similar to those under the axial pressures tests.

文摘Uncertainty impact of random geometric variations on the aerodynamic performance of low-pressure turbine blades is considerable, which is further amplified by the current ultra-high-lift design trend for weight reduction. Therefore, this uncertainty impact on ultra-highly loaded blades under extreme operational conditions near the margins with potential large-scale open separation is focused on in this study. It is demonstrated that this impact is significant, unfavourable, and nonlinear, which is clearly severer under extreme conditions. In addition to the overall attenuation and notable scattering of specific performance, the operational margins with open separation are also notably scattered with great risk of significant reduction. This scattering and nonlinearity are dominated by the variations in leading-edge thickness. The thinning of leading edge triggers local transition, enhancing downstream friction and reducing resistance to open separation, which is further exacerbated by operational deterioration. However, the opposite thickening yields less benefit, implying nonlinearity. This unfavourable impact highlights the need for robust aerodynamic design, where both a safer operational condition and a more robust blade are indispensable,i.e.,a compromise among performance, weight, and robustness.Besides the necessary limitation of loading levels,a mid-loaded design is recommended to reduce adverse pressure gradients in both the leading edge and rear region of the suction side, which helps to decrease the susceptibility of the transition and open separation to random perturbations.Similar improvements can also be achieved by appropriately thickening the leading edge.

文摘Two loosely coupled single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems were used to model the flexural and direct shear responses of one-way reinforced concrete slabs subjected to explosive loading. Based on numerical results, a simplified method and a semi analytical equation for deriving the P-I diagram are proposed for different failure modes and damage levels.

文摘To evaluate the operator health risk exposed to whole-body vibration(WBV) while the electric-shovel loads the ore on the truck body, the semi-truck mathematical model and 3-D virtual prototype were built to simulate the high shockwave of truck cab under the shovel loading. Discrete element method was utilized to accurately estimate the impacting force on the truck body. Based on the ISO 2631-5 criteria, the Sed is about 0.56 MPa in both models, which means that the dump operators have a high probability of adverse health effects over long-term exposure to these vibrations. The 4-DOF operator model was built to investigate the biodynamic response of seated-human body exposed to WBV in terms of the transmission of vibrations through the body. The results show that the response peak is in the frequency range of 4-6 Hz corresponding to the primary body resonant frequency.
文摘Anti symmetric four point bending specimen with different loading point positions was used to study effect of loading point position on fracture mode of rock in order to explore a feasible method for achieving Mode Ⅱ fracture and determining Mode Ⅱ fracture toughness of rock, K ⅡC . When L 1+ L 2< 0.1 L , σ 1 is smaller than σ t and the ratio of τ max / σ 1 is much higher, which facilitates the occurrence of Mode Ⅱ fracture.

文摘The identification result of operational mode is eurychoric while operational mode identification is investigated under ambient excitation, which is influenced by the signal size and the time interval. The operational mode identification method, which is based on the sliding time window method and the eigensystem realization algorithm(ERA),is investigated to improve the identification accuracy and stability.Firstly, the theory of the ERA method is introduced.Secondly, the strategy for decomposition and implementation is put forward, including the sliding time window method and the filtration method of modes. At last,an example is studied, where the model of a cantilever beam is built and the white noise exciting is input. Results show that the operational mode identification method can realize the modes, and has high robustness to the signal to noise ratio and signal size.
文摘The very long tradition of the activated sludge treatment model within the water industry has demonstrated very versatile possibilities to adopt the operation mode for different enhancements. 文摘The present work proposed a new method for the modeling by the finite element method of the acoustic propagation problems in infinite axisymmetric cylindrical guides lined with locally reacting absorbent materials without flow. The method deals with the development of an efficient transparent boundary condition based on DtN operators. The method developed in this study is successfully applied to a straight axisymmetric lined guide by imposing a mode on one of the artificial boundaries of the truncated guide. The results are in good agreement with analytical solutions. Applying the method for a non-uniform axisymmetric lined guide which is a complex case, proved its effectiveness and the results compared to those of PML layers are in very good agreement.
文摘This article presents the simulation results and analysis related to the response of the generators within a microgrid towards an accidental overload condition that will require some load shedding action. The novelty of the work lies in the load shedding simulation and analysis of the specific generators studied herein, regarding that in many countries the microgrid technology is seen as an important alternative towards the ever increasing load demand and also to assist the system during periods of blackout.
文摘Since Multimode data is composed of many modes and their complex relationships,it cannot be retrieved or mined effectively by utilizing traditional analysis and processing techniques for single mode data.To address the challenges,we design and implement a graph-based storage and parallel loading system aimed at multimode medical image data. The system is a framework designed to flexibly store and rapidly load these multimode data.Specifically, the system utilizes the Mode Network to model the modes and their relationships in multimode medical image data and the graph database to store the data with a parallel loading technique.
文摘The Sri Lankan national water authority, that is The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWS&DB) has taken a new wastewater treatment plant into operation at Ja Ela, North of Colombo. It is important to underline that the loading on the plant has slightly increased during May as compared with the previous operation period.
文摘Finite element method(FEM)has been used to analyze the stress and strain fields and the stress tri-axial levels around the tip of the crack under mode-Ⅱ loading. The results show that: under mode-Ⅱ loading, the direction of the maximum tensile stress and that of the maximum tri-axial levels(R_ )exist at an angle of-75.3°from the original crack plane:the maximum shear stress and R_ =0 exist along the original crack plane. The effect of temperature under mode-Ⅱ loading is actually related to the change of the elastic-plastic properties of the material.
文摘A versatile current-mode biquadratic filter using three operational amplifiers and nine passive elements is proposed. By suitably choosing the output branch, lowpass, bandpass, highpass, bandstop and allpass transfer functions are realized simultaneously without changing the circuit configuration and elements. Two circuits, one is for low frequency application and the other for high frequency, are proposed. The center frequency, quality factor and gain constants of the circuit can be tuned independently. Simulated results show that the circuits work successfully.
